Entire game is a one big sidequest

How the fuck is this so well received?

it wasn't, not by me anyways.
>every weapon in the universe is replaced by different technology
>but here's an explanation see it's cool guys totally makes sense
i like the game because it got me to stop playing games made by that company or really any """""AAA""""" titles and move on in my fucking life.

It was fun and had relatable characters. And how's team assembly a sidequest? It's just a story oriented around a team coming together for a very specific purpose.

Same as HL2. Second entry to a well received franchise.

It's the last manly rpg that bioware made, no gay and trannie shit. 10/10

It's literally a waifu/husbando collector game.
Of course Sup Forums likes it.

Everybody likes it, Mass Effect was extremely well received overall.

It's funny because at the time concerned mothers were still worried about sex and sexual minority acts ruining their children so BW played it safe. Every love interest would've been bisexual otherwise

>people invented frictionless materials and matter replication allows for guns that can fire literally nonstop
>nope let's """"""""upgrade""""""" our guns to rely on a limited ressource lmoa
The explanation for heatsinks was fucking retarded especially for anyone who actually played ME1.

Unironically characters

Everyojne considered ME2 a massifve downgrade to ME1 when it initally released. They made a great RPG with gameplay flaws but instead of improving on it they turned it into a covershooter with extremely linear tiny levels.

youtube.com/watch?v=cEnIQWXCgzQ

They were mocking the people finding it stupid

>do recruitment missions for each squad member
>do loyalty missions for each squad member
>go destroy collectors
>end
>Oh, remember the Reapers from the first game? They're still coming lol

I know 2nd game is supposed to give more time to character development but the fact that 80% of the cast only gets a small cameo in the 3rd game only shows how pointless it is

>ME2
>RPG

Attached: 1488396403574.jpg (440x457, 146K)

>Jennifer "I'M ACTING" Hale
I forgot how shit she was

improved the mechanics in every way from the first one

Also Tali's VA didn't want to do lesbian lines.
Best girl.

To be fair the voice actors were never given directions or any hint what the situation was in fear of leaks.

>Oh, remember the Reapers from the first game? They're still coming lol
>Implying the mass indoctrination of an entire race is not foreshadowing to Reaper tactics in current cycle
brainlet

Good character development, DLC was good, and tighter controls

Who cares just enjoy the ride for what it is. This game is all about characters and Shepard saving the galaxy from another threat.

because it finally let you bone Tali

ME2 didn't even have a point in the overall plot. You spend the entire game assembling a bunch of spergs to stop the collectors from building the terminator while the Reapers are literally one week away from reaching the Alpha relay.

>kill shepard in the first 5 mines
>lmao, jk here shepard lives again
>first word out of shepards mouth are "this weapon has no thermal clips"
I knew Mass Effect got EA'd not even an hour into the game. what a waste.

Attached: tumblr_inline_ofx3z8PgD61t2fpfw_540.png (540x585, 377K)

I've played it to an extent that I've come to not like it anymore, even though I did enjoy it a lot, same with the first one.

>How the fuck is this so well received?

It was a literal GoW clone.

We already know that they indoctrinate people in the first game.
They went through all that trouble, kidnapping people to make a giant terminator robot is a shit plot device because ALL THE FUCKING REAPERS LOOK THE SAME

Mass Effect was never afraid to completely fuck with the lore for gameplay purposes or to have a cool scene in the story.

Easy example is the SR2 Normandy being drydocked on Earth. The whole reason the SR1 Normandy was so badass was because it was capable of escaping orbit despite a large mass effect drive. You spend the entire game in ME2 using a shuttle because the new one is too big. Then in ME3 they have it take off from Earth because they wanted a scene where Shepard jumped onto the Normandy.

This never really made sense to me. WOuld she have to voice specific line? Hale is the one that would have to do the work. Are there even any specific line where she mentions malesheps gender?

>literally every level is a corridor with convenient chest high walls
>3 guns
>4 armors
>no party managment
>laughable plot
Bioware was literally chasing the Gears of War bux back then.

>How the fuck is this so well received?
It wasn't. A lot of people saw it as the downfall for the series that it was. What a dogshit game.

It sold well and had high ratings because it rode its predecessor's coattails, just like Dragon Age 2.

Yup Shepard totally should have just waited for the Reapers quietly and let an army of ultra-advanced hostile aliens do their thing and experiment on humans beyond the Omega 4 after they *killed him a part of his crew and his ship*.

That's because ME1 had a clusterfuck of an inventory

Revisionist history to the max.

ME2 was praised on release by Sup Forums and everyone else. It was only when ME3 came out that people looked back at ME2 and said "Wtf no plot".

Character based stories were a better direction than the garbage nonsense politics exhibited in 3. The gameplay's not as solid as 3 but it's easily the best in the series, even if I still enjoy 1.

Indoctrination was already a major plotpoint in ME1, nothing new here.

It really wasn't that hard.

Maybe on Xbox it was bad but I played the PC port in 2008 or whatever and it was fine. All you had to do was manage ammo types and armour... it wasn't that complicated.

That's not all it was, it had interesting characters, settings and quests. That's about all you can ask from an aRPG. I know what you're doing, shitting on ME2 to make ME3 look better. It doesn't work.

They were designing pawns from alien life since ever, it's absolutely not unthinkable for them to make prototype ships based on other races. And there's a difference between first game saran to second game prothean race and to a third game where you fight half a galaxy being controlled by reapers.

True, but i would appreciated it if they had tried to improve on ME1s flaws instead of just cutting them out entirely.

It was also pointless
All you'd ever do was put on the most +x% damage on your gun and +x% shields & +x% health regen on your armor
So much shit for so little purpose

Stop lying you faggot. ME1 fans who saw Mass Effect as the new Kotor complained about the massive downgrade in RPG mechanics. The only faggots around here who liked it where the shooter fags.

And only them because of the tri-color thing mostly

reddit the game
i know what it pander to nu Sup Forums now

lol @ these delusional fedoralords comparing it to DA2. What a joke. I bet you liked roaming around in the mako on palette swapped barren planets for useless shit. ME2 cut out all the garbage and had playable tight combat with tons of content. ME1 was a like a tech demo beta test for ME2. ME2 is a 10/10 goty masterpiece and you're a hipster.

the gameplay and side characters made up for it. to bad mass effect three suffers beacuse of 2two main plot.

>an Ancient Evil™ rises
>it corrupts our own people to conquer the world
>you are the Chosen One™
Bioware literally making the same premise over and over. Just once i would like to see a game from them that isn't about their corruption fetish.

>massive downgrade
Besides the gear choices that made no difference, the planetary landing sidequests that offered you nothing but resources you didn't need, the skill points that were unilaterally just +x% effect, what was 'lost' from ME1?

if you get conrad verner sound like the man of reasons, you know you fucked up.

Congrats, you just described almost any RPG ever.

I'm not saying that people weren't disappointed by the reduced RPG elements of 2, but they still overall enjoyed the game for its narrative elements.

Yeah I keep seeing the whole "ME3 was good except for the ending" line and it's complete bullshit. The entire game is shit with 1-2 moments of decent stuff. (Like Mordin)

While exploring random planets in ME1 sucked, removing the Mako entirelyt was a mistake. And then they replaced it with these awful linear vehicle levels in the ME2 DLC.

ME2 was the turning point where Bioware literally told their RPG fans from Jade Empire and KotOR-days to fuck off and make way for the kiddie audience.

Good RPGs make you think about your gear choice. There was none of that in ME1.

>I bet you liked roaming around in the mako on palette swapped barren planets for useless shit
At least I could interact with the world in some way besides doing boring as shit planet scanning with probes
>ME2 cut out all the garbage and had playable tight combat with tons of content
Literally zero sidecontent that's not main missions or DLC
Citadel in ME1 was a huge hub. In ME2 it's like 2 long corridors.

The SR2 went down to Illium at least IIRC in 2. I think it wasn't that it couldn't maneuver in atmo period just that it couldn't do it at bigger planets and it wasn't going to be as spritely as the SR1 whilst doing it so they avoided it 90% of the time.

>besides inventory, sidequests, exploration, ressource and party management and skill points, what exactly was cut

Attached: 1491494314400.jpg (852x480, 73K)

Because most of the characters were great
Garrus and Tali were dull in ME1 but come ME2 you loved them

>Yeah I keep seeing the whole "ME3 was good except for the ending" line and it's complete bullshit. The entire game is shit with 1-2 moments of decent stuff. (Like Mordin)
Nah, I believe that if the ending was to be good and personal and whatnot the game could have been saved. They just needed to fucking tie everything together which they failed to do. I'm just ignoring canon and going with the indoctrination theory

Landing on a planet and finding a chest with some enemies next to it isn't a 'sidequest'. ME2 had actual planetary sidequests.

>exploration
You can play ME1 without fucking around on a single side planet. It's the best way to do it because 95% of them are pointless.

>party management
ME2 had just as much skill point allocation, except your skill points actually meant something.

People who liked shooters liked it.
People who liked RPGs didn't.
Considering ME1 managed to attract people from both audiences, ME2 was the great divider.

masseffect.wikia.com/wiki/Anomaly

Looks like you missed around 30 sidequests in ME2. If you actually explored the galaxy map you would have found them. Unique environments too not like that Mako shit.

I did a few of them.
It was all in some bland space facility or in some cave in a jungle.
Not much of a improvement from M1

>GoW clone that limited default weapon and armor variety to sell weapon and outfit packs to the drooling fanbase
ME2 was the point where everybody could see that old Bioware was dead.

characters, gameplay and locations are great
why wouldn't i like it

Attached: 1490757348588.jpg (1806x2046, 843K)

Because it’s a great game.

What makes it a great game?

it's fun

>couldn't romance Garrus
Not even as a fanservice that game was good.

Attached: 1480111821606.jpg (304x360, 27K)

What makes it fun?

It basically killed the ME universe in its infancy.

Thanks EA.

Attached: 1351689739549.jpg (545x548, 40K)

>tighter controls
Yeah I love having the same button being used for multiple things.

The aesthetics of the game were top notch. I loved the music and the atmosphere, especially stopping at the bars in space. It had this real cyberpunk feel to it. It was one of those "I didn't know I wanted this..." moments for me.

youtube.com/watch?v=8idKzHfHqhY

well you know, it just feels right

>while the Reapers are literally one week away from reaching the Alpha relay.
That whole DLC was retarded. What was the reason that the Reapers had to use the Geth, Saren and Collectors as pawns? Oh right, because they couldn't enter the galaxy. If they just had to wait another 5 years and then they could turn a mass relay around then what's the point of using pawns in the first place? NONE.

Attached: 1519928307823.jpg (700x600, 67K)

Uh-huh

Because the overall gameplay was generic and streamlined but fun, some places had a brilliant atmosphere and finally most of the party members were pretty cool.

This.
Limitless ammo is a general’s wet dream; there’s no reason that anyone in their right mind would simply ditch it.

>matter replication allows for guns that can fire literally nonstop
it wasn't matter replication. there was a bar of palladium or some metal inside the gun. a slug the size of a small grain of sand was shaved off it every time the weapon fired and was sent off at supersonic speeds through a mass effect field and boom thats a lotta damage

the arms dealer jews wouldn't stand for it

It was a shitty decision from a gameplay perspective too but the least they could've done is just quietly retcon it instead of trying to create a lore explanation. Instead we get people who've been isolated for years using clips, and the supposedly "universal" clips not actually being swappable between weapons.

ME1 had a great atmosphere
ME2 is so fucking generic in comparison it hurts

Thermal clips are unlimited ammo. You pick them up everywhere so it's irrelevant you just have to reload.

IT would have been even worse than the endings we got.
Disregarding that there’s nothing that could actually have indoctrinated Shepard without driving them insane, it’s not even an ending. It’s unironically “no, Shepard, you are the reapers”. Then you pile headlong into the fact that it equally disregards all your choices as much as the original endings and equally has no closure whatsoever.
Pick a colour will always be shit, but it was actually an ending.

>limitless
>you can run out of them
What did he mean by this?

Attached: E1827C15-2FB2-47D1-B2CA-F1200732A7C3.jpg (320x240, 12K)

That could easily have been explained with mass relays being indoctrination tools and the Reapers had to use it before the galaxy knew it has to defend it with their lives. But nooooo, bioware ain't that smart, which is why they didn't go for the dark energy plot.

>matter replication allows for guns that can fire literally nonstop
That's not even slightly true

Because the suicide mission is unironically one of the most unique and tense moments in a "modern" game. The very definition of a climax that has been building up for 30+ hours.

It's also what ruined the series beyond repair.

Consider the following - as a part of the *process* of indoctrination shadow people etc. can be seen *before* reapers have full control of a person. They could have just made the catalyst kid, the dreams, and maybe some limited other stuff be hallucinations and effects of indoctrination, while the ending is whether you were successfully indoctrinated over the three games(destroyed vs tried to control reaper tech etc.) like the illusive man was or not. If you weren't you go on to destroy them with the red destruction ending. Or something. Could have been cool

I don't see how you can. There's clips everywhere you look in combat situations and you have multiple guns all with full ammo.

You never run out ammo in the game because it, unsurprisingly, puts you in situations where it's very hard to run out of ammo

Not even him, that's bullshit, thermal clips are essentially just ammo mags.

That’s irrelevant to the fact that there’s nothing to do the indoctrination without driving Shepard insane, or that it would be a shit ending without closure

>without driving Shepard insane
Based on what? Where does it say that indoctrination categorically cannot be resisted? Obviously, TIM survived long enough sane to run Cerberus. It makes less sense if he had no indoctrination effects, Shepard is next to reaper tech constantly.

Shepard had a special mind to begin with no one else on eden prime could handle the prothean beacon.

Are you retarded?

You definitely are.

Garrus can romanced as a female just not as a gay

Notice how TIM still went loco. So yes, IT would still be just as stupid of an ending as pick-a-color.

Rapid indoctrination drives people insane, and rapid is the only way it could have happened given that he never spends time near reapers or their artifacts for sufficient time to do a proper indoctrination job.
This is established in ME1 as a plot point.

Like I said you definitely are retarded.
