What can Nintendo do to make the 2D Mario games as fun as they once were?

What can Nintendo do to make the 2D Mario games as fun as they once were?
They just seem to be rehashing more shit from 3 and World with every "New" installment and it's just depressing at this point.

none of that 2.5d shit

What does that have to do with how fun it is?

Ditch 3D
Make the gameplay fast and spastic more like world than SMB3
Stop having all that 1-2 must be a cave with shortcut! Bullshit

Mario Maker 2

the idea that everyone has already tirelessly posted since that dumb article, they are going to try and emulate the cuphead inspired """hand-drawn""" animation from the snes era

NSMBU is legitimately great and the third best 2D Mario.

>Implying NSMBU is better than either SMB3, SMW or SMB2

Wasn't there a relatively recent interview with Miyamoto that said they're currently working on a new 2D Mario and that its gonna be really different for once?

>SMB3, SMW
What do you think the best and second best 2D Marios are?

>a game with this art style

Aaaad my boner just ripped through my jeans.

1) SMW
2) SMB3
3) SMB2
4) NSMBU
5) NSMB
6) SMB
7) NSMBWii
8) NSMB2

I think the big thing a new 2D Mario platformer should do is really stress the "multiple paths" and "limited resources" elements that have actually been present throughout the series; even in SMB1, where you didn't have even a single-item inventory, power ups were really scarce so you were afraid of losing them.

Design the game around multiple playthroughs; you want to go and try out all the various ways of approaching Bowser's castle, which you need different items for, and it's a struggle trying to obtain and preserve them. Still include Star Coins, but put less attention to them than getting all levels clear.

Also, yeah, art style built around the artwork to SMB3/SMW would work.

Definitely the best in the the "New" series

Attached: nsmbu.webm (1280x720, 2.86M)

It's fourth on your list which isn't that far off.
Also you forgot Land and Land 2.

Imo:
1. SMB3
2. SMW
3. NSMBU
4. SML2
5. SMB2
6. NSMBW
7. NSMB
8. SMB
9. SML
10. NSMB2

At least we can both agree NSMB2 is trash.

I love these so much.

SMB2 is way underrated

mario maker with hills and the ability to make a map and entire "game" is probably the pinnacle of what a 2d mario experience could be so that.

It's very good but I'm more of a fan of traditional 2D Mario.

Super Mario Bros U is the best 2D Mario game since Mario World.

The competition is only other NSMB shit though, it isn't difficult

NSM2 is the only bad one.
DS and Wii are fine games.

Making a 2D game with this aesthetic would be a good start.

Speed
Preciseness.
Instant button response with action on screen.
Easy to play
Impossible to master.
Things in the game will fuck you up

They are fine games, but no NSMB game deserves the SMB name

yes please

Smb is better than any of that nsmb bullshit

>but no NSMB game deserves the SMB name
What? Why?

This looks ridiculously much more better than neo nintendo mario

absolutely not, except NSMB2.

New Super Mario Bros U, but with a better art style and better music

It's been the official look of the 2D Mario characters for a while now.

Because its shit.
youtu.be/bDOZbvE01Fk

Because SMB games were original and fantastic, while NSMB game are just fine little toys
Same dfference as between Wario Land and Master of Disguise

No all the way fuck nsmb delayed water down bullshit.

But a game with that style? Id like a 3d one

>delayed water down bullshit.
What?
What do you mean by delayed?
What's watered down? All four of them are more complex than SMB from Mario's moveset alone.

e-levels but new

Ok when you jumped in smb 1 it was instant in modern games the delay is much more significant. This peaked probably quake to cs 1.6 era. Games do not need the quick reactions anymore as a way to survive in a game and i argue that is one of the reasons games suck ass.
With this delay you can do less within the game and it does not feel 1 for 1.

Also making mario have all these moves and all these things don't mean the game is more complex but it is more bloated with dumb shit that is not needed.

>wall jumping
>shitty graphics
>no-name directors
>no-name designers
>i wonder why they suck....

Attached: comparemario1.jpg (1267x829, 336K)

Have you seen the super play videos?
The expanded moveset can be used to do great things.

>The expanded moveset can be used to do great things.
Useless when you can beat the level easily without those
It doesn't make it more fun, it's the same thing as BOTW and MGSV: that shit is good for making youtube videos and jerking it off to creativity, but when you are playing it, you're slave to an empty level design

That's cool and all but why don't the enemies have their move sets up graded so they do crazy shit like how i do.

That is my argument why ww sucks because i keep on getting upgrades and it just makes the game nearly unplayable because of how easy it is.

Same thing with mario Odyssey
Nintendo needs a kick in the ass to remember where they came from

>Useless when you can beat the level easily without those
I'm 99% sure wall jumps are required at some point in each game.

Also that's still a dumb argument. Is the ability to crouch in SMB a bad thing because it's not required? What about powerups? What about the spin jump in SMW?

Funny thing is the thing about melee is every single person plays differently

>That's cool and all but why don't the enemies have their move sets up graded so they do crazy shit like how i do.
Okay this is fair, but every Mario game is easy as shit, especially SMB1.

wall jumps makes it fundamentally different from old school 2d marios. anyone with a brain can see that

The fundamentals are the same, you just have a couple extra moves.
The spin jump didn't make SMW fundamentally different than 3.

>missed all 3 star coins
Fucking Casuals

Why do all of the New games feel so sluggish and floaty compared to 3 and World?

3 is floaty as hell too. It's just World.

It did, but you're right about wall jump not changing much, NSMB problems in moveset are:
-Inertia: everything is slippery and moving isn't fun at all
-Spin jumps being slower than normal
-The waggle move which makes easier an already easy game
-Power ups movesets and ice ones in particular

There are also more problems like the levels being very lowly dense

Because ypu suck at them, but you dont really have to gitgud at it since the game beats itself.

the spin jump isnt even in the same league as wall clinging/jumping. you are retarded

Why is everyone dying in this video?
John Carmack even said super mario used to kick everyones ass.
My gripe is nintendo is giving the tools for creativity in the game but it is limiting to the people playing it in two ways.

The level design doesn't take advantage of skill needed to complete a level

Same problems with enemies not being up graded to match my abilities.

This problem exists in all nintendo games they are missing 3/4ths of what made classic mario games the most sought out series back then.

Speed precision
Enemy working with the set rules of engagement that goes with the game
And level design that is based off what you have in the game.

If nsmb would have these things I wouldent care what it looked like nor would anyone else because it would still be masterpieces of platforming instead we have this.

youtu.be/DKiBTMbJU2k

Nope it's because the delay in modern games and because they do not want to focus on quick reflexes anymore which sucks ass its so fun to pull shit off in moments of time makes a game thrilling

3 is floatier than World but Mario also controls much snappier with instant response and fast acceleration and deceleration.

The first one is like the second hardest one, hardest being lost levels.

>Enemy working with the set rules of engagement that goes with the game
>And level design that is based off what you have in the game.
Except those are true for NSMBU and Wii.

>since that dumb article
What dumb article, I've been saying that since I played Bowser's Inside Story.

You don't get it do you. I want direct enhancements of enemies like the dumb ass hat that makes the characters spin. I want enemies that do that to and in different speeds and different lengths.
I want to bounce my was to a secret level by perfectly jumping off these guys continuously going higher and higher. You are not understanding what im saying

New Super Mario Bros. Sunshine
>flat hand drawn 2d graphics
>fludd functionality
>new 2d spraying mechanics and obstacles
>every level is a cute summery paradise

they should include a bottle of soylent with the game

Attached: BING BING WAHOO.jpg (960x892, 234K)

>Fludd in a 2D game

Attached: 1516303051763.jpg (350x389, 25K)

You sound like the "creative" team behind nsmb.

They don't need to do that since there is already a variety of enemies that all do different things. If Nintendo wanted a enemy to do a certain thing they would just make a new one that does it

They already did something like that with Wario Land Shake It but seeing them get that bold with a Mario game might be nice.

Maybe in 3-4 years it'll be done.

Remove the voices, for some reason they drive me up the wall. Leave that for the 3d marios.
