Haven't played many games in the series, but Super Metroid is tied with Super Mario World as my favorite game of all time.

no more bullshit, metroid V. Metroid prime 4 starts a new trilogy with 5 and 6 planned out

Super Metroid

I have none

>the future of the series
Nintendo finally announces Metroid: Dread either at E3 this year or next year and it's a sequel to Metroid: Fusion.

Convince me that a bamco-made Metroid game will be good, bros

Because I don't have high hopes

Retro isnt working on it, so I can only hope it runs at 60fps and has kickass lore like the originals

That it goes back to Prime 1's style and adds new power-ups.

>future of the series
Another 2D game, preferably on Switch instead of 3DS or (God forbid) mobile

Uhh...bamco published Dark Souls, and Dark Souls 1 is probably the closest game I can think of to Metroid Prime 1 in terms of having a cool, organic, interconnected world to explore. So I guess if bamco has From develop the game maybe it could also have a cool world?

That's the best I can do.

they're not going to be a primary developer, if the rumors are true then it's going to be a case like smash 4 where it's a handful of programmers assisting. Pic related, dev is nintendo

lots of neat lore

Prime4 sells okay so the franchise doesnt die again
Metroid5 is on the Switch
Space Pirate spin-off at some point

probably the only other hunter who appears would be weavel, I don't see anyone but him/sylux showing up

so I've started playing Prime for the first trime earlier this week and can we just talk about the actual controls of the game? it's so outlandish but somehow becomes satisfying after a short while, it's so odd

>Some of the other Hunters like Trace or Weavel come back, possibly with Trace bringing his own race into the fold
No thanks, keep those trash throwaway characters out of my Metroid

MP3's cartoon villain rejects were terrible

the controls are really clunky but end up working really well for the game. i hated the wii controls

bets on prime 4 trailer being story only or gameplay?

Which controls are you using? I loved the wii controls.

Odyssey and Breath of the Wild were so goddamn good.Metroid is my favorite series, and I want it to be just as good as both of them

You've got good taste my friend

>favorite
Echoes, though Super is definitely the most fun on replays.

>your hopes for prime 4
That they stop dicking us around with Sylux and answer the questions there, and that Namco or whoever's developing it puts their own mark on the series instead of chasing Retro's style. I think I'd prefer something with its own distinct identity than the series pretending it didn't take a 10 year hiatus or switch developers.

I also want Metroid to keep moving forward instead of settling for copying Super, since I really loved how the Prime trilogy progressed and the first game is my least favorite of the three, but I know I'm in the minority there.

>the future of the series
I just want to see new adventures. Retro stuck with a single story that spanned three games, the multiplayer spinoffs don't really have a lot of substance, Sakamoto's been doing midquels and remakes since 2002. It's time for Samus to have a new adventure and breathe some new life into the series. Metroid 5 needs to happen after Prime 4, just so it doesn't get stuck in a rut and fall off the face of the Earth again.

My unrealistic hope for Prime4 is the Luminoth appear again, or get referenced at least

I'm kind of worried that since it won't be made by nintendo the game could drop the ball, but I'm holding out hope nintendo put the series in competent hands
As long as the game isn't as piss-easy and linear as MP3, or god forbid Other M, I'll be happy with it.

So we're all in agreement that it was fucking murder, right?

Isn't that a good thing? The original Prime Trilogy wasn't made by Nintendo either. The last Nintendo-made Metroid title was Zero Mission.
At this point, most Metroid games weren't made by Nintendo.

I don't have hope for Prime 4, the dream team that made Prime 1 is long gone

Imagine being a moron like this

I'd like something like Fusion but not so in your face with the story. Like the trashed prototype for Echoes that was basically System Shock.

A return to 2D sprite art would be awesome but it's not happenin

all on the gc baby

I hope it's not open world. I can't see metroid working as an open world. Do you think it should be First or third person?

>piss-easy and linear as MP3
Corruption is only easy because of hypermode, which you don't have to use if you want a challenge. Other than that, it's no easier than the original, and Echoes is only significantly harder than either of them in its 1.0 NA release.

There's never been a Metroid game that was actually hard without a self-imposed challenge like low%, actually.

Tank controls arent bad
Jusst look at the Resident Evil series

>never used hypermode cause I didn't remember it existed after the tutorial
feels good man

We already know it's first-person, see

You're full of shit. The game regularly requires you to use Hyper Mode to progress.

>all the logbook entries are going to be written by japanese in japanese, then translated into english
>there won't be any logbook at all

Metroidvanias are open world by design, duder.

That's impossible for a number of reasons.

Attached: 1522275611031.png (590x466, 299K)

I loved metroid prime 1 and 2. i'd love to see the guys from Metroid Hunters idk but i love their designs

If prime 4 doesn't have a multiplayer mode like echoes but better with online i will destroy Nintendo.

Echoes multiplayer mode was terrible and took away development resources from polishing the single-player. Everybody at Retro thinks it was a mistake and never should have happened. Prime 4 doesn't need multiplayer, and if they want to sell multiplayer Metroid, they should make a Hunters sequel.

>favorite games
Prime, Super, AM2R. I know the last is controversial since it's a fan-game, but I genuinely think it deserves some credit just for being so ambitious.

>hopes for Prime 4
Open metroidy style world akin to Prime or Super, with plenty of sequence breaks. Maybe new items. Scan log is welcome to come back. No cutscenes or story though. Just give me a blurb in the manual that tells me what I'm supposed to shoot at, and drop me off from there.

>the future of the series
Hopefully the zero suit and mother M samus get buried forever, as well as the weebs who turned Samus into their idiotic submissive waifu.

I meant I kept forgetting it existed after I had to use it. I was pretty young when I played it so when I saw that it drained an energy tank I just got discouraged from using it.

if there is a multiplayer mode it should be done by a different team while the main one works on the single player

I mean like open continuous worlds ala zelda or something. I like zones and contained areas

Unfortunately, that stupid jumpsuit is here to stay.

>the weebs who turned Samus into their idiotic submissive waifu
Sakamoto alone did that. Even most weebs/waifufags jerking it to Samus porn would probably she be strong and silent.

Anyway, there's nothing wrong with the Zero Suit. It was a great element of Zero Mission, and so far the only game to abuse it was Other M (surprise).

I just want good enemy deaths and satisfying weapons.

I want to charge my cannon and see the heat melt any nearby snow and ice, the blast to distort the air on its way THROUGH my enemy, who looks down at the new hole in its chest before collapsing.

I want to engulf assholes in entire beams and watch them fizzle away like a DBZ villain.

I want to feel my arm kick every time a missile seeks out my victim as they scamper from behind cover to try to find safety. To no avail.

You're thinking of Doom, not Metroid. Metroid has always had cartoon violence and it should stay that way.

More interesting enemy AI would be awesome, though.

>Metroid thread
Oh how I miss these.

Please, post all the concept art you guys can. I lost my Metroid folder a couple months ago when my system drive died and took my pictures folder with it.

My favorites so far have been Super and Prime. Zero Mission is also pretty awesome. I hope Prime 4 takes a more mature route than Prime 3. I never had a chance to beat that game, but from what I played, I did get a bit of an annoying Saturday morning cartoon vibe from it. Mostly when Samus was interacting with the other hunters. I have a USB Wii mote detector on the way as I plan to finally run through all 3 primes and finally complete 3 through Dolphin.

As for the future of the series, I hope Nintendo understands that the fanbase for Metroid is an aging one.

Attached: Crystal Flash.png (810x1037, 957K)

How interesting though? Should Metroid continue using the style of enemies positioned to be challenges in terms of terrain placement ala Megaman, or should they be learning AI?

I know... but that would be pretty sweet though. If nothing else, I think the beam fizzle thing can be implemented, so long as health or coins or something comes out afterwards.

Realistically, I just want better movement. I want to be able to bounce off walls to dodge half the heat seeking stuff they shoot at ME, then shoot the rest out of the air, hookshot above their cover, and rain sweet, sweet justice down from above.

So basically, it's not what they do but HOW they do it that I care about.

I hope they somehow use BOTW godly physics engine for navigation and puzzle solving.

Animals are obstacles
Space Pirates or whatever is gonna replace them use smart AI

The idea of enemies getting smarter as you backtrack through an area over and over makes me diamonds

GENTLEMEN: grappling hook, or space jump? Which is better for exploration potential?

What you want isn't Metroid.

I think it has room for booth, particularly the Prime games. The normal flora and fauna doesn't need complex AI; Prime world-building thrives on all kinds of enemies where some of them are basically environmental hazards and just move at their own pace. But then there's stuff like Space Pirates that could be really cool with advanced AI.

And another way I think that could be expanded is more intractable environments. Like in Prime 3 there are scripted piles of rubble you can use the lasso on, but how cool would it be if you could just do that with any old rock? And then smarter enemies might also use the environment to their advantage against you.

>I did get a bit of an annoying Saturday morning cartoon vibe from it. Mostly when Samus was interacting with the other hunters.
The games pretty straightforward Prime after the Norion segment. That area is just an flashy tutorial to set up the plot, characters and conflict.

Almost all the character interaction after it is a federation computer giving you a basic quest objective like "go back to this planet for a key item" every now and then like the Luminoth did.

I'm a sucker for grappling hooks

Metroid doesn't have a grappling hook, so I guess the answer defaults to Space Jump.
Unless you mean the Grapple Beam, which is something else entirely. In which case, the answer still defaults to Space Jump.

I feel grappling makes for more compelling exploration, most of the time with the space suit I'm just jumping around empty space mindlessly and sometimes stumble upon an upgrade

They won't, and I don't think they should imo. Zelda and Metroid have always had different exploration. That's why they never called it Zeldavania.

I think Metroid should stick with it's tight corridor, linear gameplay that allows them to throw crazy detail and backtracking you don't mind. (often)

I just want the game to evolve. I want it to go to Metroid 2.0. To experience the same leap it did when it went from a side scroller to a FPS. Or like how Zelda did when it went from 2D to 3D.

So long as they don't sit on their heels and give us the same game we've been playing for 31 years but with MO BETTAH GRAPHICS I'll shut up and give them my money.

I mostly agree, and I really like Prime 3 overall, but one thing that really drags it down is the persistent dialogue boxes for the transmissions. Like, if you don't mash through all the AU 242 dialogue (which almost always ends with a forced map screen), then it only goes away after like 5 minutes of sitting there, and if you get into any kind of cutscene, even just a quick camera pan, the timer resets.

I hope Prime 4 ends up being on the same level as BOTW and Odyssey

I want it to blow people's socks off

Play prime

Depends on the grapple we're talking about.

Corruptions grapple lasso is way more interesting than the space jump boost.
The traditional grapple beam sucks in every game outside of Samus Returns.

>thinks Retro isn't Nintendo
>thinks Team Ninja made the majority of Other M
ackchualy

My hopes exactly. Why doesn't Metroid have a general yet?

I think you have unrealistic expectation for a game called Metroid Prime 4.

>there's a zelda general in /vg/
What the fuck, what do they even do all day?

Attached: Metroid Prime General.jpg (822x585, 468K)

You're not wrong. It's like that old concept of making a great product and letting people throw their money at you to enjoy it rather than just making some b/s money grubbing scheme like DLC and such is dead and gone.

I miss when a sequel used to MEAN something, dammit. (sometimes) Like Perfect Dark > Goldeneye

Finally Another thread and this quick too. Let me tell you guys on how Metroid: Fusion despite it's flaws is my #1 Favorite Game. There's something about this game I fucking love and I keep replaying it every month when I get the chance. For one thing, despite the navigation room sequences and the handholding there's still tons of good bits of storytelling, like Ridley's frozen body, SA-X Shooting up the metroid containment chamber, etc. I also fucking enjoy how Fusion really does stick it to the whole "Isolation" theme of the series. It's literally just her on this station vs a highly dangerous parasite that even copies her at FULL POTENTIAL in all these sections that are just biome copies.

What did you guys think of Fusion?

Attached: metroid fusion.jpg (320x320, 38K)

I don't know what you're ranting about. I'm saying that choosing to make "Metroid Prime 4" rather than "brand-new 3D Metroid spinoff" tells you that they're choosing to stay faithful to the elements of the Prime series rather than reinventing the wheel like BotW did. That doesn't mean it won't be a great game, and it certainly has nothing to do with "money grubbing DLC."

You're saying Nintendo makes Kirby games and not HAL?
You're saying Nintendo makes Pokemon games and not GameFreak?
You're saying Nintendo makes Mario Golf and not Camelot?
Yes, Team Ninja made the majority of Other M.
Just like Mercury Steam made the majority of Samus Returns.
Just because Nintendo has published all these games, doesn't mean Nintendo made them. You dense motherfucker.

I liked the Navigation Room sequences I thought they added to the atmosphere and I enjoy the writing

Attached: Very big laugh.png (1394x512, 269K)

Who's working on it then? Whats Retro working on? Why arent they doing prime 4?

>Whats Retro working on?
its been years and WE STILL DONT KNOW

Attached: SCREEEEEEEE.png (405x414, 12K)

We don't know, other than it will be an original IP of their own creation. That was something we've known since Tropical Freeze released.

I enjoyed it but I liked the first three games better.

I understand where you come from, the sequences did add some nice touches to the lore despite being way too long. "Because of this mechanism, there are now no fewer than 10 SA-X aboard the station." is still a quote that's stuck to me throughout the years.

I enjoy it, but it would be vastly improved if they removed the computer and found a better way to direct your objectives throughout the game. For example, my favorite part of the whole game is when you're on yet another point A to B mission at the behest of the computer, but then the elevator breaks down and you have to find your own way.

I also find the controls strictly inferior to Zero Mission, which have my favorite out of all the 2D Metroids.

I don't know what it was but something about her suit being biomechanical and producing missiles biologically was cool to me

I thought this was a hypothetical, not an actual game that's coming out and we're just trying to guess what's in the box already.

I'm talking utopias and rainbows and sunshine here. Realistically nothing I'm saying is going to happen any time soon. It'd be as you said-- with a "spin-off" under a new title.

When the power cuts off is my favorite part as well. Fuck Yakuza-X with all my might I hate that piece of shit.

youtube.com/watch?v=WIEJGS-Ubdk&list=PLZS_o9tqWHmJHGmuQRRkfiqhgZIApfLXM&t=0s&index=2

Since I know it isn't Prime 4, I'm vainly hoping for Raven Blade.

It's never happening, isn't it?

Now that I think about it, I liked how most of Fusion's bosses utilize the power ups they have in some way or another(most of the time)

Attached: Yakuza.gif (116x70, 94K)

>dialogue options
>putting the navigation rooms into Super Metroid
This is one advanced hack

All they had to do was remove the broken elevator from the first half of the game. If it interferes with "Muh SA-X should be hunting me" then add in rooms where it can randomly show up ala Nemisis.

>your hopes for prime 4
I really hope the platforming is more faster, with you being more agile and having more maneuvers at your disposal, like wall-running, wall-jumping, vaulting, etc. I want something like the 2D games, but in 3D. Give me something like Mirror's Edge or Titanfall 2. In fact, it'd actually be pretty cool if they got Respawn to do it.

That's how the suit has always been dude. In every game.

Samus is cute. CUTE!

Retro is actually first party though.
They're basically EAD Texas at this point.

There's no such as "basically first party." They're second party.

That's nothing.
