Another thing I want to add is that, while I think it's actually interesting that he was originally freaked out by having killed someone, they didn't actually explore this idea at all. Like, the very next mission you do after escaping from Vaas is going to some base and gunning down about a dozen people. It also gets annoying that, over the course of the game, that somehow killing tons of people and animals doesn't desensitize you from skinning animals or whatever it was you were doing.

He's an excellent protagonist in that he transforms from a whiny fratboi douche into a killing machine with a broken soul who essentially depopulates an archepelago on his own and slaughters endangered species to make backpacks out of their skin. As a human being he's profoundly annoying an awful and not a single person ITT would find him or his shitty rich friends likeable IRL but I kind of feel like that's why he works so well. I just wish there was a smoother transition between "intensely traumatized by killing a human being" and "being stoked to burn everyone on a farm to death," even IF the subtext is that Jason's always wanted to be his badass older brother and the killing is bringing out who he really is inside.
It's sad that so few characters actually have any arc at all that he Jason Brody's so high on the list. It sucks that subsequent FC protagonists are increasingly blank slates because Ubisoft wants to avoid the controversy around "white fratboy war tourist depopulates island in the South Pacific."
Like give Ajay Galay any kind of real personality or arc. Make "the Deputy" ANYTHING other than a creepy mute Terminator
