BotW, but with actual variety in its dungeons, and with some dungeons having an item that you need to access another dungeon, or to access a couple shrines, instead of just giving you everything right off the bat.
Also I'd like for some more RPG like stuff, maybe expand upon the spirit orb upgrade system and instead of only letting you upgrade health and stamina, let the spirit orbs affect inventory slots (drop korok seeds, make spirit orbs obtainable from more than just shrines) and have them be used to upgrade an attack and defense stat as well, and magic meter too, if they have magic, which they should, just make powers like the champion's abilities and have them consume magic to use, they could even make the attack and defense upgrades cost more and more as you upgrade them, maybe start at tier 1, then go 1/2/4/8 spirit orbs for each tier cost, up to a maximum of tier 5, each tier could increase attack/defense by 3 points, or even have an increasing value with that as well, going +3/+6/+10/+15 for the total bonus from upgrading attack/defense.
Also make weapons, bows, and shields stay in your inventory when they break, broken weapons have only 1 attack power, and only break for good if you throw them, add in blacksmiths that can repair your weapons and maybe even upgrade them.

Nicholas Richardson

That'd probably just result in climbing becoming useless and people becoming fustrated when they accidentally waste their magic on blocking a half heart attack.
spirit orbs affect inventory slots and give attack/defence bonus
Seems pretty pointless/too dumbed down. All of that already happens anyway, the more enemies you kill the better weapons drop and you can upgrade all of your armour.

Yeah, to be honest the magic meter isn't the highest thing on my wishlist for what they could do with a BotW 2, not really sure how they could balance it in well.
Seems pretty pointless/too dumbed down. All of that already happens anyway, the more enemies you kill the better weapons drop and you can upgrade all of your armour.
I don't see how its dumbed down at all, its just an expansion on the system, I also think it'd be better to have the stronger enemies lock behind area where you'd need an item, so you don't have tons of tanks roaming Hyrule, I don't know about you, but the enemies everywhere had so much HP by the end of the game that I just avoided fighting them most of the time.
WHY ARE YOU GUYS SO OBSESSED WITH USING THE SAME TWO WEAPONS.
I'm not, the weapons would still break and you'd have to switch to something else, but it'd be nice to be able to repair your weapons for rupees instead of having to go out finding them again, and upgrades would be nice to improve weapons that you like the looks of, or just want to make better, you can already find weapons with additional properties in BotW, this would just be an expansion of that.

This. BotW is obviously a reaction to SS, they went from too structured to near complete freedom. It works much better but after a while I kinda just felt like why am I bothering. The whole cycle of the game falls apart when you have good weapons and not even that many shrines cleared. Battles become a bad idea cause you just lose equipment, and you don't need anything more from shrines. The game ends when you go I guess I have everything I need, may as well actually go beat aku. Rather than a build up to that fight.

Game doesn't necessarily need more structure, the open world aspect works but I want more to motivate me to go around and do different things. Make it feel like you are going to unique locations with unique activities. The games is best when it feels like you are self motivated to go and do stuff so you have to give more than a random shrine to keep that motivation going.

For them to take their open world they seem committed to now, and put actual themed dungeons with real variation it them. Keep the nonlinear, free-form map design, but cut down on repetition in mindungeons like the shrines, and replace them with a smaller number of visually varied mini-dungons, similar to what was in Wind Waker.

Also, while they'll never actually do this, they might want to think about making the next map smaller, denser with content, and more polished. Developers don't seem to want to concede to do that downsizing though, given it's a bragging point when you're selling the game, but in the moment to moment gameplay, bigger maps don't always play as fun or interesting as a smaller, more polished environment.

It didn't help that by that point I realized the combat was completely pointless and the game punishes you by making everything easier the more you progress.

The thing about Master Mode is with fights you really got to commit to them, you can't just run away and hide and then come back to finish them off. There's incentive to keep the pressure on and explore the indirect combat options the game offers, like setting shit on fire or dropping people into lakes. And of course getting gud with aiming the bow.

Same, I still think it is a good game but it sunk in very fast that the game lacked the content that the scope suggested. BotW is a good formula for the franchise but it lacks variety

It isn't like the combat is that deep, plus the rewards for it quickly fall off in quality meaning you really have no reason to engage in combat. You have to want to explore for the sake of it cause there really is no pay off.

Henry Cruz
Henry Cruz

I don't know how anyone can dislike the start. It's easily the best part of the game. It's why people like Eventide so much as well. The start is when you're constantly getting new items, abilities, worthwhile combat, and just seeing so much of what the rest of the game has to offer while still being very open ended and allowing a great deal of freedom. The rest of the game past the plateau doesn't give anything truly meaningful to the player, spreads everything out, and is frankly just fluff in the end. I get that people love the landscapes and the sense of exploration the world provides, but I found everything else subpar.

See, I went into the game having heard these same things from other people many times before. But, I dunno, I'm not really specifically looking for those points of interest that people are so disappointed with, I'm just enjoying the design of the world itself.

But honestly, I've been pretty pumped to find shrines so far too. All the physics based puzzles have been pretty satisfying to figure out. Don't really too excited to find combat trials though. I could take or leave the korok seed thing.

I find the opposite is true. For example, all those explosive barrels in enemy camps are borderline useless in master mode because if you blow them up on a group you only have time to finish off 1 enemy before the rest recharge their health.

Ah, but even finishing one enemy is a good result. The blast also leaves the enemies in disarray, makes many of them drop weapons, and will probably start fires that'll cause additional damage. I remember there was one of those goofy skull houses full of like seven boblins, including silvers and a gold, and stuffed with a bunch of bombs. I used a meteor staff to bounce some fireballs in there and then just started spinning with a heavy weapon at the entrance to bat anybody who tried to escape back into the inferno. It was a riot.

Master mode is for people who want the game to be like dark souls
I don't like Dark Souls at all. Master Mode has responsive combat and functional hitboxes so the Dark Souls comparison isn't all that apt anyway.

It isn't like the combat is that deep, plus the rewards for it quickly fall off in quality meaning you really have no reason to engage in combat. You have to want to explore for the sake of it cause there really is no pay off.
I've never come to Zelda for deep combat, really. The tactical approach makes it fun, it doesn't have to be CUHURAYZAY for me to enjoy it. As far as rewards, most later enemies can be relied on to drop a few gems, which generally recoup your expenses in fighting them. With a regenerating Master Sword it's no great hassle. Plus elemental weapons are really durability efficient if you just switch to them to apply their effect and then switch away.

In Master Mode it's pretty slow. Every boblin encounter has to be handled with precision because a single hit from a flaming weapon will straight fuck you up. I got real good at bomb juggling before too long. I don't disagree that it'd be cool to get more powers throughout the game though.

If that's all it takes to keep you happy then I more than understand why you enjoy the game. The design of the world and the way it makes you want to explore it is easily the best thing about BotW.

I liked the shrines at first, but I really wish they were naturally integrated into the world, provided a real challenge, and didn't give the exact same reward every single time. It also would have been nice if they gave Link a useful ability upon encountering a shrine that required it, thereby providing a real incentive to seek them out instead of front-loading the game. Shrines were a good concept for such a massive open world because you could put down a lot of them to fill the area, but they were implemented in the laziest way in my opinion.

Sure it can be fun for a while, but on your 30th boko camp you know what to expect. It doesn't take long to get to that point cause they are every where and many have the same layout. Unless they have some of the same few items laying around to deal with them there is only so much variety, especially if you want to deal with them effectively instead of just pissing about.

most later enemies can be relied on to drop a few gems
You get millions of them very early. So I can keep my good weapons, or earn gems which i already have and can earn from non combat scenarios. You're not even losing good weapons if you do it right. Single strokes from elemental weapons, general combat with the Master Sword or boko/lizal/moblin whatevers, a Lynel Crusher or similar for backstabs. The losses in question are mostly arrows, which I tend to chew through a lot of. Bows seem to have very good durability compared to melee weapons.

The game is built on how much will you want to do stuff rather than there being a good gameplay loop

I scope the place out to see if it's going to have something I want
Most of the time you don't know. You don't really want enemy weapons after a while and don't know what they will drop. It really does come down to you feel like it, not that the game is making your consider the scenario being worth it because it just isn't once you get past the early stages.

You're not even losing good weapons if you do it right.
See the point is becoming more you can try really hard to minimise the effect, rather than there is none. This also discourages variety in tackling the situations, you have to limit your use of certain items cause it is a waste.

t there doesn't have to be a good gameplay loop
No there does, that is good design. It is an open world game that is made purposefully to encourage you to explore and get lost in, it needs systems to encourage that but the loop discourages it. If the game is designed in a way the discourages the few activities is has going for it then that is a flaw in design. Especially when you could fix this with stuff like better drops, more reasons to earn stuff to sell, rewards that feed into a greater range of systems etc. It is not exactly hard to give a reason for combat, but botw is damage your better equipment so you might get something of lesser value that you didn't need.

Link and Ganon start out as friends that go on a journey. They learn about the prophecy of the 3 and try to go against it until the inevitable happens and link is forced to fight Ganon who Ganon defeats but not wishing to kill his best friend, takes his own life

Also, I don’t see a Zelda game ever topping BOTW’s Zelda. Such a well done and well written character.
