Hey Sup Forums, I was looking for a new GPU and had a budget of $260. I was looking at a used MSI 970 and apparently it is a meme tier card. Any explanation why? Recommendations for a new card would be appreciated. CPU is i5-4690k incase wondering

My 970 seems to have kinda shitty multi monitor support for some reason.
Game on main screen runs perfect, but a video on second screen gets choppy.
Might want to fall for the AMD meme in that price range.

if I can nab a GTX970 for $255, would that be a better deal than a R9 390 for $275. Is the 512mb ram really that much of a deal breaker? Or should i stick with the 390 as it has 8gb

Why not wait until the new cards come out? If you don't need to be on the bleeding edge, than current cards will come down in price once that happens. Otherwise Pascal/Polaris might be good enough to justify buying those instead.
