ITT: simple things Linux simply can't do.

I'll start: create/unpack AES-256 encrypted ZIP files.

Well yeah, Linux is a kernel. Why would it have to extract zip files?

I'd like to interject you for a moment

use shareaza to download child porn wihout wine

/thread

That fucking Tux/Mario Kart rip off is not a fucking game. Open source Doom doesn't count.

Wow, that was hard.

...

Yes it was, you used the command line.

>Command line is hard
Winbabbies, everyone

it was, you wasted time typing all of that crap, and you could do 2 mouse clicks. pathetic.

>saying command line instead of terminal

>winbabby's too retarded to copy/paste text
You can't make this shit up

>What is "7za"

What happens if you do it in e.g. file-roller

What is copy and paste, Alex.

A terminal is a device, nigga. You seem confused.

echo "You're a fagget"

>copying and pasting commands you find online into your terminal

Who's the retard here?

so I should've said

>saying command line instead of saying using a terminal to access a shell

your way is much more eloquent, thanks nigga.

not everyone's a hacker retard

>using nonstandard extension to zip archives.
>bitch when standard compliant software can't handle your special snowflake shit.

I tried with ark but this thing is really limited. I have to admit it's really easy to use though.

>he can't read a simple string of text and discern its purpose

>simply string
>not cryptic hackerspeak

Not him but thejh.net/misc/website-terminal-copy-paste
I do it all the time anyway.

Yes you can. I have a script which compresses to a tarball, then to a aes256 zip, then rsyncs over ssh to a remote backup server.

winbabby detected

Have a desktop environment that doesnt look like a copy of mid 00's MacOS X.

>he said, a couple of days before wiping his whole filesystem clean with a command he found online and then going to Sup Forums for help like a retard

Not him but if you can't decipher a one liner why would you ever run it?

>implying I've every been stupid enough to run something without knowing what it does
>implying I'd come to Sup Forums - Tech Illiteracy Central for help

Again, read , it's just ~250 words.

>not loving mid 00's Mac desktop environment
but srsly, KDE and GNOME both look fresh as fuck

>MMXVI
>not using Lumina

>decent encryption
>special snowflake

Hope you enjoy identity theft!

That's not something you have to worry about on Sup Forums. What you see on Sup Forums is what you get as far as copying and pasting goes.

Why do people say this?
Steam has some games for linux. Seems like they port more games to it everyday.
>tfw CS:Source runs better in lubuntu than windows on my old dell latitude

If you're on a technology board you should be.

>using meme desktops

>technology is only computers

Even my retarded brother is learning to use the terminal. He's developmentally disabled, but you make him look pretty clever.

Yes. It's 2016, anything that doesn't include a microprocessor is considered primitive technology.

>kernel mode archive management
WHY

>muh IoT
lol enjoy your tech bubble

It doesn't need to be internet-enabled to contain a microprocessor.

>let's just put CPUs in things for no good reason guys!

>not everyone's a hacker retard

>how do microwaves work
>how do tv remotes work
>how do washing machines work

>technology is only home appliances

Anything can be made better with a microprocessor. Properly implemented, they are better at controlling things than humans.

Are you confusing microprocessor with integrated circuits? Not everything needs a microprocessor or microcontroller for that matter.

Anything can be made worse with a microprocessor.

Cars these days have 0 clever mechanics in them, they're nothing but computerized crap that doesn't respond the same way.

Just fuck my shit up.

Wait. Linux is supposed to be irrelevant now that bash runs on Windows. Get current with the talking points, Pajeet.

>now

Linux has always been irrelevant. user.

take advantage of DirectX

When will year of windows on the smartphone? server? supercompooter? etc? anything but desktop (which it is now also shit at)?
>muh gaymes

>server

What are you talking about?

Windows is the industry standard for corporate servers.

I've worked enterprise IT for almost 11 years now and I've seldom seen Linux servers around, or even anything but Windows Server for that matter.

ITT: simple things Windows simply can't do.
I'll start: look like a modern os, theme support, hidpi scaling that works,
ssh, servers, use more than 2-3 file systems, font rendering, tux racer,
sensible file system structure, use more than 1 partition on a flash drive,
desktop environments, use ps3/ps4 controllers OOTB, custom kernels,
privacy, speedy virtual machines, consistency, etc..

Internal combustion engines are primitive technology. Fuel cells and electric cars are not. The former doesn't need a microprocessor. The latter does.

>that's convenient way to do things for an autistic mind

Electric cars are just a meme and you know that, user.

Kek. Electric cars are worth it if only for never having to give money to Ahmed at the gas station again.

...

virtual terminal user

My emulators disagree.

>forgot the link lol
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Linux_games

Internal combustion engines are newer tech than fuel cells m8. Neither one of these needs a microprocessor.

post your script senpai

This.
Why nobody wrote ransomware for linux...

so you need some game recommendations on linux? you could just have asked in the sqt or the flt instead of claiming things that are not true.

baidt

Fuel cells aren't batteries. You are mistaken.

>Having to use google every time you want to do even the most simple tasks

I didn't say they were. You are the one who needs to check her facts.

>doing basic tasks in linux requires entering the matrix and hacking the mainframe through the terminal
holy kek linux users are cancer

>m-muh gaymes

Fuck off to Sup Forums man child

psh. you know if linux was good for games you'd be defending it

There's a built-manual for nearly every command, you dingus. Why do you clowns try to make everything so difficult?

What are you even doing on Sup Forums if you think technology is black magic

...

not saying is better than windows in that regard, for things to actually change it would need a huge cultural change in the game development community to stop putting all their eggs in microsoft's basket (android's marketshare actually helped a lot in that regard), however see .

I don't think using a computer should require I read a manual, things should be intuitively mapped out so I never have to touch a CLI if I don't want to.

I don't advocate abolishment of CLI, just that I should be able to use my computer without having to resort to it. If I have to copy paste a command every time I want to do something or read the man page and then remember the command with all its arguments and switches then something is wrong.

Not one distro has managed this feat

Oh, okay, how did you know what the package name was?

So you just type 7-zip manual and the command line will tell you everything you need to know?

Quick, what's the command to change a password for an account? What's the manual for that, let's see.

>manual password
manual: command not found

hmmmm let's google.....oh, it's man

>man password
Hmmm, that didn't work either....back to google. Oh, it's passwd...

All the grown up games work on GNU/Linux. Like civilzation 5, baldurs gate series, crusader kings 2, europa unversalis 4.. etc. Any game for an adult, like strategy and RPG works on GNU/Linux. I wonder if it's because GNU/Linux users would rather play that kind of game than call of duty or hwatever is popular these days.

Only game I play is diablo 3. And no bnet on steam. not into wine

README

Basic Installation:
1.Before attempting to compile this virus make sure you have the correct version of glibc installed, and that your firewall rules are set to ‘allow everything’.
2.Put the attachment into the appropriate directory eg. /usr/src.
3.Type ‘tar xvzf evilmalware.tar.gz’ to extract the source files for this virus.
4.‘cd’ to the directory containing the virus' source code and type ‘./configure’ to configure the virus for your system. If you're using ‘csh’ on an old version of System V, you might need to type ‘sh ./configure’ instead to prevent ‘csh’ from trying to execute ‘configure’ itself.
5.Type ‘make’ to compile the package. You may need to be logged in as root to do this.
6.Optionally, type ‘make check_payable’ to run any self-tests that come with the virus, and send a large donation to an unnumbered Swiss bank account.
7.Type ‘make install’ to install the virus and any spyware, trojans pornography, penis enlargement adverts and DDoS attacks that come with it.
8.You may now configure your preferred malware behaviour in /etc/evilmalware.conf.

I’d just like to interject for a moment. What you’re refering to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/LInux, or as I’ve recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.

Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU which is widely used today is often called “Linux”, and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU project.

There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use. Linux is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine’s resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called “Linux” distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux.

Most of the more commonly used applications have GUI versions for those with brain damage.

I think US schools are beginning to be out for the summer. There was a colossal amount of shitposting on Sup Forums last night. Even more than usual.

?

Full fledged autism

It's the year 2000+16 and I'm still the only one that knows about 7zip's native gui for linux.

>2000+16
>Still using propetary bloatware
Try using native software next time.

$ zip - file1 file2 file3 ... | openssl enc -e -aes-256-ctr -k password > file.zip.crypt

Checkmate, atheists.

OK now do every other file in a directory that is sorted by filesize

You're what's wrong with Sup Forums

>Most of the more commonly used applications have GUI versions for those with brain damage.
But I like the command line. Why isn't it smarter. It's like the linux guys want nothing to change from the 80s. It's weird.

It should act and look more like sublime text or other text editors like that with possible commands popping up as you type.

he disproved the argument though, independently if doing it with the CLI is more convenient or not it's clear that it can be done on linux, you people are jut moving the goalpost, also see
