Pocket C.H.I.P & Microcomputers/Microcontrollers general

What do you guys think about Pocket C.H.I.P ?

I'm terribly tempted to purchase one, but the pricetag (49$) makes me a little hesitant.

It's been bugging me for quite some time now.
You anons are my last resort.

So what does Sup Forums think?
Should I or should I not?

Overpriced garbage. Every SBC add-on is for some reason. Probably because retarded tech hipsters will buy it anyway.

>Pocket C.H.I.P
it only costs $50 you poor fuck. buy it and get it over with, op.

Why when this exists

Yes I am a poor fuck. There's no denying that...
That's exactly why I made this thread my summerfriend. I want opinions and actual discussion on the subject.
If you don't like it here then you're free to take your stubborn ass back to Sup Forums or wherever the fuck you came from...

>be hipster
>see kickstarter for new meme "maker" board
>buy it
>shill it up on twitter
>it arrives!
>tinker with it for 5 minutes
>watch youtube video of other hipsters making twitter bots that feed their cat or whatever
>throw it in a drawer

Well one thing is that I really like its (pocket chip's) slim and blowzy kind of design. Another thing is that I find its price quite reasonable, in comparisson with any other similar products (that I know of) which are currently available on the market.

The Pyra Dragonbox on the other hand is a bit out of the question for the money I'm currently willing to spend on such a thing

If you don't have any particular opinion on the subject that you wish to share then I suggest you go shitpost on some other thread...

MUH DIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIICK

can't wait for this shit to ship

fuck, i meant the pyra, not that pockchip stuff.

i am waiting for one of those as well, but more excited for the pyra

ikr?
they're both fucking sexy

I want one but its not out yet and its like 600.00.

I should add I was looking for a way to do phone calls through it with a flip phone. I just like talking on a good sized flip phone more then a smart phone. Note 4 is big enough but its hard to hear sometimes.

OP here
Just to clarify a few things: I'm looking for something that can work both as a mini portable computer AND as a microcontroller for various "arduino" kind of projects

Get a pi top then you queer

(2/2)
all in a reasonable price.
That's why I think the Pocket Chip is a great deal for my needs.
But I'm open for discussion. I want your opinion/advice anons

I'm afraid $299.99 USD for a Pi-Top is a price out of my current bounts

(OP here)
So everybody here thinks buying this thing is a bad idea?

>everything thats not a pocket chip is FUCKING STUPID
>uggh keep giving me things that aren't a pocket chip

Initiate a self-slay at your earliest convenience

yes

I'd pay maximum $20 for it.

What's wrong with that comment of yours is that you absolutely fail to see the point of both this thread and my intentions.
Not every board is Sup Forums user.
You don't need to be so obnoxious...

Elaborate ffs...

I might steal one if the chance arose

I would not pay more than twenty American dollars for that device.

Will my feedback make it into Rev. 2.0, Mr. Goldberg?

Are you capable of actually explaining why or you don't really have an opinion...?

Listen faggot, you asked me a fucking question, and I responded. I just gave you my opinion. Are you fucking blind?

You did give me your opinion (and I appreciate that) but then I asked you for some backing up, to that opinion. I needed you to explain that opinion of yours.
But you choosed to ignore that. Instead you started acting like an utter bitch, calling me names and shit like a fucking 12 year old...

Like I said, not every board is fucking Sup Forums.
There's no need for that kind of attitude here...

Apparently I'm not being clear: I do not fucking care if you buy this shit or not and I personally would not pay more than twenty fucking dollars for it. How fucking retarded can you be?

not them, but

>wanting a real discussion or logical argument on Sup Forums
>asking for purchasing advice or any advice from Sup Forums for that matter

Bad idea being here all around if you're a reasonable person looking for actual information of any kind. All we have are inane comments.

This place used to be a whole lot different user...
I don't understand! Where did all that shit come from?!

The shit came when you were born a whining cunt.

Clearly I'm not the one who's being retarted here

You say that you wouldn't pay more than 20 for that thing.
But why wouldn't you?
Do you actually have any reasons or arguments?

Do they need to?

Also

If you don't want to be detected by NSA radar surveillance, go for it.

I think it's an under powered, ugly, overpriced piece of shit. If you want one, buy one.

Yes my summerfriend. That's how you form a proper opinion. There must be a certain mindset or some data of some short behind every opinion.
Otherwise it's not an opinion, just pointless blathering...

It's not a matter of whether I want it or not. It's just that I don't no any better.
Do you have any alternatives to propose?

note: I'm looking for something along that price or maybe a little above of it

*know

What do you intend to do with whichever device?

I intent to use it as easy access mini portable computer and/or a base for projects that require a microcontroller

See:

LUA
Enough said.

*intend

Lua's just a programming language.
What do you mean by that?

>easy access mini portable computer

You can get a similarly powerful TRS-80 Model 100 for $35-80, and that comes with a built-in modem and BASIC.

What about this thing?

sinclairmobile.com/en/poco.html

>require a microcontroller
I don't know of anything better, which is a shame.

now that is a small fucking computer.

Got a nice chuckle out of this one. Thank you user
The problem is that neither of these devices are intended to be used as microcontrollers.
And Poco costs twice the price of a pocket chip. Which is kind of a budgetery stretch, considering my case

Should what's the verdict anons?

If it fits your needs, go for it I guess.

Apparently there are no matching alternatives for my case

built yourself from RPI Zero,

RPIZ 4.20$
RiiKB 10$
battery+controller 10$
Ebay 5" Hdmi 20$
SDcard 5$

Case, Plastic, selfmade, 4$

or get the chip you lazy fuck

Didn't see y'all porfags down there.
Joking aside, I'd like one if it was clamshell. Love ma SBC's

why not get one of these and make chiptunes instead

>tech hipsters
Watch it, sonny! Or,I'll throw my dentures at you!

can you Pi fans talk to me about some of the shit you've done with yours? can it easily run ubuntu or gentoo? could I use it to run a dedicated private server that would only be accessed by 1-3 clients? are people happy with their Pi purchase or is it collecting dust?

It would probably only cost me $50 to setup with the extra equipment I have but I'm a NEET and that's a week of groceries.

I mainly don't get why they have these lightweight distros listed on their website. I have a full install of ubuntu and it only takes up like ~10gb, I'm guessing a configuered gentoo install would come in the 6 neighborhood. a 64gb microsd card is $20. the pi 3 meets all the reqs, would it run really slow? I can't imagine it would.

cloud servers run $50/month, seems like the pi is a great cheap alternative for not very intensive applications.

Does that support Android? Or just fucking Linux?

>just Linux
>just

JUST

>I'm guessing a configuered gentoo install would come in the 6 neighborhood.
I'm guessing you have never fucking used Gentoo because it takes more disk space than any other distribution hands down.

Android is a port of linux you ass wipe

s/port/fork/
fukin troll'd me hard mate

Sup Forums has some of the worst god damn trips. just why.

I have a RPI 1 model b. I used it to run a small webserver for a couple of years, then most recently I connected it to some speakers and used it as a white noise generator

interesting. have you ever tried hooking a small touchscreen up to it and making a sick little home audio setup?

>
>Get a pi top then you queer
$300 for a 1ghz slow as balls laptop??

Buy an old chinkpad and a can of neon spray paint
