I bought some nice chink SSDs for fun and remembered his laptop. Literally threw it in and used apples (honestly its really great) network recovery to reinstall osx. The mount doesn't hold the ssd well at all so I'm sure scotch tape is fine.

Why don't you cut out a piece of foam to add some padding? The tape will come lose over time due to heat. Hell even a folded piece of cardboard should do.
