DoD confirmed to be massive retard

>So why is the DoD investing so much time getting Windows 10 onto its systems? Security.

>"We've never had an operating system that's had this much security baked in from the beginning," said Terry Halvorsen, the DoD's CIO.

It's not like they're going to install gentoo you massive nigger.

Bribery

Pretty much puts to rest all this fucking shilling against Win10 on this sub. If it's secure enough for the DOD it's damn fucking secure enough for you fucking anime torrenting fucks. Literally no reason not to use Win10, it even has DX12 which NOTHING else supports.

Microsoft surveillance

Microsoft is part of NSA's mass surveillance program "PRISM":

> 44.5 billion minutes/month spent in Microsoft Edge.
> Over 2.5 billion questions asked of Cortana since launch.
> Windows 10 now active on over 200 million devices.

Bunch of propaganda. Paid for by Linux shills no doubt.

I don't expect them to but the least they could do is stick with windows 7. The top secret information they deal with could fuck our shit up if it got leaked by hackers. And it probably will soon since microshaft stores OS surveillance data on its servers.

you don't work with gov't computers, fucking win7 is fucking slow ass garbage just an fyi.

All of it is true, just check the links. Anyway the US is putting our national security in grave danger by using a spyware OS. Since when did trusting corporations with classified and top secret government information become OK?

>imbliging S2 won't remove said spyware
>imbliging S2 doesn't add additional safety features
>imbliging S2 doesn't already track information that is placed within the IS
wew lad, all that imbliging, you can fuck right off with this tinfoil garbage dumbass.

But at least it's not filled with as much spyware. These are government computers that hold very sensitive information. If you're not gonna use a privacy focused OS like debian then at least use an old version of windows with less spyware.

>We've never had an operating system that's had this much security baked in from the beginning
The only thing that had a chance was OpenBSD. Microsoft is actually doing everything right regarding kernel and OS security. If you want comparable security (still fucking garbage because of all the freetard bugs) you can go with Linux and manually apply and configure grsec, but there are so many ways to fuck that up you're better off just going with Windows.
One of the semi-recent talks from Theo talked about it. Linux distro devs are fucking retarded with security because they don't want to be fucked with submitting bug reports and making patches.

Except Win10 is secure as fuck. Do you think the DOD doesn't know what it's doing? Of course they do. Otherwise it wouldn't fucking matter what OS they were using, moron. People make the OS, OS doesn't make the people.
Win10, secure enough for national security, secure enough for personal use.
Only butthurt Linux fanbois think otherwise. Your emotional attachment to a kernel is stopping you from realizing the painful truth - Win10 is just better than any of the Linux distros.

You clearly don't understand the issue. Nobody thinks Windows is leaving you vulnerable to external threats.

>"shilling" a kernel

Beat me to it.

The Department of Defense has been confirmed multiple times to not know what the fuck they're doing. You do realize that MAYBE even 1% of the people who work for the DoD are actual security technicians, right user?

The DoD uses Red Hat extensively. They just use Microsoft products for desktops because most people have Windows and office at home. Also, Microsoft has a whole lot of access control features in AD that a monkey could figure out.

and most of those are contractors that could give 2 shits about security, fuck, they might be even letting shit through so they can fix it and keep their jobs.

yep security is something you bake in

it really is as easy as making a cake

Use the right tool for the right job faggots.

The right tool for the job here is hardened gentoo, or perhaps qubes OS, senpai.

Top kek

>shitty unstable meme software

no thanks

The biggest use for desktops in the DoD is paperwork. Do you expect a solder to understand how to navigate gentoo when they need to type numbers in a spreadsheet or format a memorandum?

And what kind of support would gentoo provide? When you buy copius Microsoft Enterprise products, they will literally hop on a plane and fly anywhere and give you a solution to keep your business. The DoD needs things to work when shit goes down. They don't have the luxury of being able to fuck around with config files all day.

>Paid for by Linux shills no doubt.
But Linux shills are hippies, and hippies have no money.

What if the DoD is announcing that they use Windows so that attackers will look for exploits in vain since they're actually running hardened Linux?

Soldiers used to be able to understand gentoo but then feminists whined until we let women in the military.

>the DoD needs things to work when shit goes down
>automatic updates
>sharing bandwidth with other users through Windows Update
>tech support is nothing but Rajesh and Prajeet who own a convenience store on the side

Fingerprinting is easy as fuck, stop being retarded.

It was the Pentagon I believe who invited tons of people to do their pentesting for them when they started the upgrade to 10

>automatic updates
The DoD, and most enterprise environments, use a configuration manager like SCCM to control patch deployment. This prevents business critical systems/ workstations from updating during peak hours.
>windows update
The DoD does not use Windows update. Go to DISAs website, they test and/or modify all packages from Microsoft and provide them to the services which independently control deployment.
>tech support
The DoD has its own tech support. Business continuity is managed by Windows enterprise services. They keep the DoDs business by solving large scale issues or providing custom solutions.

Enterprise IT is a different ballgame.

Sure. If you can get passed the enclave boundary. Most pentesters will revert to client side attacks when targeting large organizations. In this case, you'd be fingerprinting browsers and browser plugins, not as simple as tacking -O switch onto an nmap scan.

So they aren't using the SECURITY BAKED INTO THE OS, then, huh.

they control the spying, i use win 10 on my desktop but no shit the master (us governement) having control of microsoft

Nope. As with any organization, the people at the top look at fact sheets and attend sales pitches and think X product will be the best thing since PowerPoint. There are some features that may be useful, but it isn't TPM 2.0 or whatever.

The truth is, security is just a lot of hard work. And not just by security engineers, the entire engineering team and business operations team have to toil over it in addition to supporting new features and requirements. It is a shame all of that is being undersold to promote a particular product.

You are a lame0

I understand what you're getting at. I just finished a security course with a perfect score.
I understand the hierarchy involved in business security. That's not my point.
My point is, the DoD has been proven to be incompetent in many areas, and security is seemingly going to be another one of those areas. I'm gonna laugh my ass off when some blackhat gets into MS's servers, and leaks all the DoD data.

The windows 10 version the DOD uses is not the same as a consumer version.
Windows 10 for DoD purposes has all phoning home removed and many features which lower security are removed. In addition the DoD are given access to the source code

Everyone in this thread for reading

this

You don't get my point. MSs servers don't have DoD data. If they do, their entire enclave has to conform with DoD standards.

>what is airgapping sensitive networks

you know absolute jack shit

>air gapping
What's even the point then? It's equivalent to literally throwing the system in a closet and forgetting about it. There is no usability/availability, even for the admins. You can't transfer data between the networks, unless you use something like a removable drive, and that in and of itself is a security breach. I understand that it keeps everything completely confidential, but you're literally wasting money having that setup.

They use Windows 10 so they can learn the ins and outs of it so they can exploit it to spy on you. They want you to use Windows 10 good goy.

its not putting the govenment in danger. Windows practically IS the US Govenment

*microsoft

>implying US govt gives a shit about spyware in Memesoft products since they're the ones who put said spyware there

Gentoo is the most stable OS currently available. Qubes is quite stable and is extremely secure due to its design.

Not sure if retarded or just pretending. Do you expect soldiers to understand how to reformat and install windows?

DoD is shit
All defense contractors use CentOS

They're going to use Windows 10 Enterprise LTSB N edition, which has all of that shut removed, but when someone mentions this, instead of thinking, the first thing you faggots do is shout botnet.

>good goyim it's removed please believe us look at our nice smiling faces good goyim :^) the nose knows what's best for you goyim!

windows 7 support is getting phased out.
if you've never worked in a company before, having a clear source of support is an important factor in choosing software.

Why keking?
Systeme?
Why is Debian not privacy focused?

Define "stable."

I meant Systemd?

>linux

Jesus Christ go away.

Why is this surprising? The DoD gets access to the source code so they can patch all the intentional backdoors. "Open source for me but not for thee."

Meanwhile in Ruusia.

We'll know our disinformation program is complete when everything the American public believes is false.

It's the government. Be happy they aren't using something from before Windows XP.

To the DoD
youtube.com/watch?v=seVdI6FGjk0

Not like you understand it
Windows LTSB is windows 10 enterprise with full features - it only has stripped down from it's code cortona and edge - pretty much everything else stays the same except it will forever run 10240 th1 - receive 0 features updates and only critical security ones for years to come.

n - also stands for removal of media player because of european laws and nothing else - windows 10 is not permited to be sold alongside with media player in some regions of Europe - so they offer it digitally after install but not as an install kit component.

The windows 10 enterprise standard can run the latest features and receive lots more updates - it can also have cortona disabled and has the same level of control as LTSB.

Microsoft SecurityCake ... we bake it in for your protection!

The government is the threat you fucking moron

>tfw my hard drive started spinning faster while reading this thread

How is any of that an issue for the DoD? You realize critical systems and databases are not running Windows right? The win10 shit is for the office workers who make up a majority of the Government workforce and they do not having highly sensitive documents just sitting on their desktop like you people make it sound like.

No, see my friend the reason theyre shilling w10 (for free) is because its the easiest and best way for them to have COMPLETE CONTROL over others people computers, easy as that.

Debian's focus has never been on privacy. It has never taken any measures to help in any kind of privacy protection. It has even allied with microsoft, but otherwise collects telemetry by default for example. Bug report tools do not ensure privacy protection, use of real identity is encouraged when participating in the project, there is no thorough program separation (like in qubes), there is only elementary hardening, etc. Systemd is also obviously an issue: for example with the network service, unless explicitly disabled, it will connect to google DNS if it can't reach your default DNS, without telling you.

"packages which successfully install do not break the system"

What's in the little house in the middle?

Because they just buy ordinary Windows copies and install them and go to work. Not..

How does it feel to be so addicted to gaymen you need to tell yourself fairytales about an OS that takes away your human right to privacy?

Had a dream microsoft was kidnapping people and putting them in a plane of sorts. Gives me the chills.
Microsoft has always been connected to the military. As for them not using linux well microsoft has been gaining a rep due to its contracts with the nsa.

Who do you think got Microsoft to turn Windows into a spyware botnet, you dumbass? Is the DoD going to spy on themselves?

microsoft ≠ DoS

How the fuck did you even come to this conclusion you massive retard.

Im sure they were forced to ally with microsoft so Ian murdock killed himself.

Imagine if they gave the source code to the dod just so the dod...could change it to linux-esque one. Then say to linux they have copyright infringed?

I gotto see this! The micro-soft swag at work. All good things come from the commodores! All hail commodores!
