New GPU

I'm thinking about upgrading my gpu. Any recommendations for ~$200-$300?

I'm currently using a GeForce GTX 650.

If your going budget cards (in cdn) i recommend the 960.

Yea, I was thinking about going into the 900's but I'm not really sure what other makes are like. Figured I'd get some strangers opinions.

GTX 1060

probably should go for a 970 desu, they just dropped in price from 350 to 270-290. i get a solid 60 fps on every game high-ultra 1080p on mine.

I'd say wait until Polaris is announced in a few days. The price on the 390/390x is going to have to come down a lot once Polaris is out because if AMD's marketing is to be believed, the new cards will be pretty much on par with their current cards but consume a lot less power. They're going to have to drop the price on their current cards to clear their stock. So if you wait, you'll be able to get a slightly older card for much cheaper, or AMD will probably have a really good deal in terms of performance per watt at that price point.

GTX 980 after May 27th.

Wait for geforce 10

I'll just point out that kys is associated with the following of a strange youtuber who even sounds as if puberty skipped him

new GPUs are coming in less than 2 months man

The 390 is better in every way

this. People are speculating AMD to put out a GPU for $299 that will perform at a level of a 390x, or maybe even a fury (non-x). Amd is best for low-mid end, NVIDIA is (USUALLY) best for high end.

You should wait 26 days for the GTX 1070 & 1080 to be released. Its speed can rival a Titan X at less than half the cost. Also it supposedly has architecture that gives it an enormous boost to running VR, if you ever plan on trying that. GTX 1070 is $379, so use the time till release to save up a bit of extra money.

It'll be usable for way longer than any video card you could get right now. Just be patient for a few days and you'll save yourself a few hundred dollars in upgrades.

Save up for a 1080, desu.
I was in the same boat as you about 2 years ago, and got myself a 760. It's still pretty 'ok' now, but I really wish that I saved for a 980 when that came out. Just make a smart choice, jo.

the 980ti only really beats out the Fury X once you OC it

soon, AMD Polaris 10

Polaris yo

You would be crazy to buy a new GPU right now. The new cards (supposedly) are going to destroy every other card available for the price. The 980/970 set almost seems like it will be forced to drop it's price in order to leave the warehouse. If you can't save the additional 100 bucks for the 1070, at least do yourself a favor and wait for the price drop.

when?

It should be announced by the end of this month or by the beginning of June. It should be on the streets by early july. Take this with a grain of salt. It could release earlier or later, but that's my expectation for the LATEST release.

They have to do an early release to compete with the 1070, it'll just be limited quantities like nvidia is doing

> still a 970
> still get 60 fps 1080p ultra
> inb4 it'll die in 2 years
> had it for at least 2 years

OP here. I thought this thread had died so I went and ate dinner. Anywho, Thanks for all the advice, I wasn't aware we were so close to new graphics cards getting released. maybe I'll just get a new monitor or something in the meantime.

i have never associated it with any youtuber user but he might as well kill himself too

You can also build your PC now, run intel graphics for a bit (or transplant your 650, which should run at least better)
If you're buying a $200-$300 gpu and don't at least have a 1080p monitor though, wtf are you doin?

Splurge and get the gtx 1080

I already have my PC, I just feel like upgrading it. Also I'm using a small hd tv right now because I'm cheap. It works well enough but it only goes up to 1080, thus the comment about getting a new monitor.

How good will Raven Ridge be? Are APUs even worth it if you get a GPU anyway?

They aren't if you get a gpu

Go online, check around for a used 7950 or 7970 preferably one that hasn't been used for buttcoins.

Should absolutely monster price/performance compared to buying new and would leave you with a bit of cash in your pocket too.

Unless you have a burning need to buy a card right this second, you're be an idiot not to wait for the 10XX line to come out. At the very least the 9XX prices will likely drop a bit.

You'll be able to get a small performance boost by using the APU in crossfire. But then again, buying a similarly priced non-APU CPU would get you a better CPU, and I've heard crossfire isn't really worth it anyways. I'd only get an APU if you were building like a really small media center PC or something.

apu dual gpu linking will be relevant once games can make use of the HSA accelerated processing capabilities

Go with a refurb R9 2/390. 4-8GB of VRAM is nice as opposed to a 960 w/ 2-4GB or 970 w/ 3.5GB

Also if there's any in stock that you want this is always a great place to buy from: gpushack.com/

Hell no, waiting is for dumbies

Stop being stupid
