I'm installing Win 7 on an old Pentium 2 266mhz dinosaur. It's been stuck at 30% expanding files for the last 3 hours. Not hung, just not moving.

Any idea what gets expanded at 30%?

Pic related, when I started installing it last night.

my dong gets expanded at 30%

Quality contribution to the discussion my friend

If it's like the older versions of windows, it's uncompressing all the system files (previously, files wer named like filename.ex_ etc.).

And good luck with that... I'm kind of surprised it doesn't require any instructions not supported by the P-II. Also, I hope you have plenty of RAM, as even XP was kind of hard to do much interesting with 256 MB (mainly, every browser ate virtually all the RAM for one tab).

It's out date it u can do an upgrade but it may or may not work memory

Had to drop it down to 512mb to get it stable. It'll have 1gb once installed. Got an 80gb SATA running through a PCI RAID controller for the boot drive.

Win 7 is fucking awesome tbqhwy

>3 hr install
I congratulate you for have the patience for that kind of bullshit OP.

>3 hour

It's been expanding files for 15 hours now and it took me 3 hours before that to get the USB stable and the HD recognized

Nice shitpost, retard.

try working on a windows vista machine a prebuild A13 Thinkcentre Destop these things are impossible to find drivers for Intel Q45 motherboards are the fussiest mobos like ever
it wount let me install a ACPI HDD only a IDE based SATA fuck this shit

als the jumper leads are super senitive and its hot as hell and nosier than a jumbojet on take off.
why people tollerate this crap i'll never know.
I spent 4 hours trying to install the PCI and ethernet alone.
then the Core 2 gave me memory errors for 1/2 a hour loop booting because i didn't add the HDD to the top 3 boot squence and crashed again because it reset to APCI mode agian

All this just because i replaced a old 80GB HDD for another 80GB HDD

also the client added a fucking admin password and OC'd the CPU to the point it nearly fried the MOBO and he only hat 2GB ram anyway why !?!?!

;_;

I HATE OVER CLOCKERS SO FUCKING MUCH

>I hate overclockers so much
Not as much as we hate trap fags

I wish I could specify underage in the report form.

FFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUCCCCCKKKKKK

I HAD TO GO OUT FOR 3 HOURS SO I LEFT IT

IT FINISHED UNPACKING AND INSTALLING FEATURES AND ITS HUNG WITHOUT INSTALLING UPDATES

IS IT BOOTABLE?

lol

Please be kind..

Any way I can avoid another 18 hour installation?

Assuming it didn't boot then...

Nope. Bootmgr missing. Bootsect didn't fix it, figuring out how to run Bootrec from another pc on it because the system recovery isn't detecting it as an installation.

Fuck.

Rekt

Try rebooting it.
>wah muh 18 hours
Underage. 18 hours for a computer you don't use is fine. Just start it and walk away. Come back to it tomorrow.

If all else fails, just throw a minimalist Linux distro on it.

Why win7 on a PII?

Linux would work much better on it...

>and the least helpful post of the year goes to...

Because W7 works on everything and it's smooth. I need to run a couple of C and Java programs on it that are exclusively built for windows.

This one's just being a bitch.

>least helpful
Yes of course, because you have so many more options besides rebooting your piece of shit that's frozen mid-install.

>Because W7 works on everything and it's smooth.
You mean works on everything except the PC you want to install it on.

It'll work.

It'll work...

Trying easybcd.

Why not an older version of Windows?
XP should've work

PII and its associated chipset is probably too old. I had a hell of a time getting windows 7 installed on a 855gme based Pentium M computer because of how old the frickin chipset was.

Pic

Could've. I guess I just like installing win 7 on dinosaurs.

Got an MBR onto the drive with and now its decided it doesnt want to recognize the RAID controller card at all. It'll come around.

...

It's recognized it.. accepted the boot... black screen thus far, not hung... is the "completing installation" part really that important?

Actually fuck it, now an MBR exists the install usb startup repair should be able to recognize it and "finish" the installation.

I really have way too much time to kill.

>it found it
>this fucking search box wont fuck off so I can fix it
