>Omnicorp of Robocop
wasn't it OCP - Omni Consumer Productes?
Andrew Torres
even if they're 10 times faster android will still lag
Nolan Miller
Their chip , the TPU (TENSOR PROCESSING UNIT) is basically 3 generations ahead of Nvidia and Intel when it comes to AI (deep learning etc.)
They say they are basically 7 years into the future when it comes to AI... if they didn't make this TPU ASIC, we would get this kind of speed in 2025 with normal GPUs
What this basically means is Google is ahead of everyone else by 7 years in artificial intelligence computing
They're gonna win the race to create a superintelligence for sure
Jaxson Martin
OCP is OmniCorp's parent company.

this is nvidia tigra all over again

thank you pajeet, 2 rupees has been deposited to your microloan account in the bank of uttar pradesh
Hunter Lee
>we are 7 years ahead of everyone >and we're gonna present new chip in 7 years to prove it
Charles Ortiz
Their TPU is basically just a low-accuracy GPU.
the IEEE standard require every bit to be calculated perfectly
the TPU gets away with ignoring half of them because it doesn't matter so much for machine learning
Henry Hill
aha gotcha
thank ye
was watching chucks robocop review the other day and it stuck in my head

What a comeback!

>someone makes an ASIC to handle one workload that neither CPUs nor GPUs truly excel at >better write a clickbait article about it since our business model is failing and we're losing more and more ad revenue every month
Accelerators generally do not replace powerhouse hardware, they compliment it. Diversification of hardware ultimately ends in unification. Thats why we now see GPUs with audio DSPs, desktop processors with media encoders/decoders, and server Xeons with FPGAs.
Evan Diaz
He is actually right. Google have been spying and collecting data about their users for a long time now. How can you trust them to not implement a botnet on the hardware they will produce ?
William Bailey
Fucksakes, where do they find the people who write these articles?
>new custom-designed chip helps run what is surely the future of its vast online empire: artificial intelligence. ASIC's were the next logical step for AI. They aren't going to run servers or route packets though. It's unlikely that any of the big chip makers would attempt to touch AI specific architecture before it's better understood.
>. But with its massive data centers, Google is by far the largest potential customer for both of those companies. Except google has been experimenting with power8 for almost a year now which is not manufactured by either AMD, Nvidia or Intel.
>. Still, if Google is willing to build its own chips just for AI, you have to wonder if it would go so far as to design its own CPUs as well. Short answer: it's not.
Why does the entire article read like a school project? Like somebody who has little to no idea what the hell they are talking about but are still trying to impress their minimum wage teacher.
Parker Gomez
Its not spying. You agree to everything by using their services. That is their business model, they collect data, and analyze it to form useful metrics which they then sell to 3rd parties, or use internally for whatever they want. All of this is explicitly laid out in their privacy policy and terms of use. It isn't a secret and they make no effort to hide it.
Its like you voluntarily walk onto the set of a porno, start jacking off, then freak out because people are filming you. What the fuck did you expect, idiot?
Julian Butler
Not that guy but it's still dirty, most people don't read those things they just assume it's fine because everyone else uses it
Ayden Hughes
Most people are idiots for making those assumptions. In fact, most people don't belong on the internet.
Internet literacy took an grotesque plummet when all this "web2.0" nonsense started.

In other words, a processor dedicated to AI. In other words, a processor not dedicated to normal computing. In other words, a processor that's useless for consumers and will probably only be used for Google's search engines, image neural networks, and liberal friendly tay clones.
So, it's fucking nothing?
Camden Nelson
I thought the title was about THIS kind of chips, and it was some kind of prank.

how much more FPS will I get with this TPU compared to a Titan X in Crysis?
