Finally considering getting an SSD. How much storage do I need if I only have Win7, a coule of games (2-3 at most) and a lot of web browsing? Is 120gb enough?
Are there some good ones out there that aren't too costly? How about life expectancy? I heard they can die pretty soon.
Are they worth it?

Wait until black friday senpai

I'd go 256gb user. Intel or Samsung and you'll be fine for quality. Worth it? Yes.

I've thought about getting one for games and applications that would benefit from very fast I/O but am reluctant to use it for the OS itself for the reasons you stated. I intend to have the OS installed potentially for a very long time.

Guess I'd have to look into redundancy and how cell failure is handled.

>Go 6 months without an SSD to save $20
Where the fuck are your priorities, you fucking mongoloid

This. Or follow shit like /r/buildapcsales religiously.

>2016
>still no SSD
Get the fuck out pleb

OS is disposable.

Store your valuable data on an archive quality hard drive or cloud storage.

Just get a cheap one.
If you want something better get a Samsung Evo 840 pro they are still cheap but they are good.

>Samsung Evo 840 pro

> evo pro

kek

did the same few months ago
I thought 256gb is enough for me
but it is not, I regret not buying more
I thought "yea I only have few games so it will be fine"
but well it's not

>but well it's not

I feel your pain user.

BF4 is 63GB now...

Except the savings will be more aggressive. If current discount trends continue then we could see 1TB SSD reach ~$100 a piece on black friday. By then you'll be able to ditch your HDD for good. 1TB SSDs are already reaching the ~$200 range so a 50% discount into the ~$100 range is a strong possibility for black friday.

>buying a meme
Anyway why the fuck are they still so expensive? I could buy a 1tb hdd for what a shitty 128gb ssd costs.

120gb is overkill if you already have good quality hard drives.

240gb is the sweet spot for space/performance/price atm and its what i'd recommend

That said the new m2 equipt motherboards are really the way to go.

Nothing wrong with sata3 its just easier to mount it on the motherboard

>He hasn't used an SSD

My dad bought one last year and installed windows seven on it and it died 4 months ago...

LOL i have a 4 year old adata 256gb get on my level.

Its actually improved with speed since i just updated the firmware and did a trim service as well.

Runs like a top most reliable drive ive ever had.

Ever thought about how your father is also a failure at life, you share the same genes and all

The performance increase is REALLY noticeable.Specially booting the OS and games, but also when copying, de/compressing, opening up large files and indexing for example.

It's so fast it's ridiculous.

What the fuxk did you just say about me you little bitch?

>mfw i have to go back to regular 5400 7200rpm shit on laptops
NOPE
ordering a ssd literally right fucking now

Dont get memed by 120gb
240 ones are the bottom of the barrel

tfw bought a 500 gb samsung and regret not getting a 1tb

techreport.com/review/27909/the-ssd-endurance-experiment-theyre-all-dead

I'm thinking to get about 3tb of ssd, since I need to speed.

I use ifttt to send me notifications when a new post is made on that sub, saved me so much cash.

I bought a 120gb one for my OS and one game I knew I'd play for years to come. I put a little bit of software on it for keyboard and mouse but it's already getting full. Go with at least a 240gb. Love SSDs but my one regret is I got one too small.

ive had my 256gb adata for over 3 years never had it past the half way point but then again i have alot of quick hdd's so transfering games on and off it is quick and painless

I have a 120gb SSD and I can suggest you to get 256gb, especially since they're not that expensive anyway.

you can get a bunch of cheap 960's for under $500 go for it

250 gigs at least senpai.

i'd certainly hope so
/dev/sdf1 15G 7.9G 5.5G 60% /
here's my desktop on a 16G usb drive, this includes a few games as well

This. At this point I'm pure ssd and waiting until they make those bastards faster than RAM

256gb at least. If your storing a lot of porn, maybe get a hdd and store it on that, leave the ssd to your OS, programs, and games.

The difference in price is too small between 120/240 gb ssd. At least get a 240

What's a decent SSD anyways. I only ever see people with the Samsung ones despite there being so many other brands constantly on sale.

you are a failure. Just like your father.

That's why your mom left.

>look guys its anomynous

>archive quality hard drive

kek, storing stuff on only 1 drive asking for trouble. You should really be using a RAID 5 array or RAID 50 setup if you're a richfag.

>reddit

Get the fuck out of here

Raid isn't a backup method

If you delete a file it's gone. Backup to an external and shove it in a safe.
