Would it be dumb for an individual to acquire a 970 with the 1070 release so close?

Would it be dumb for an individual to acquire a 970 with the 1070 release so close?

there will be a pricedrop in the 970.
just wait

Depends on the price, but probably. Especially with Polaris coming out in a few weeks as well.

You can get it for liek 230$ maybe so no , its a good idea for 1080p.

Pretty dumb considering most modern games will be dx12 and the 970 is weak on that regard.

My friend is actually thinking about building soon and I set up a 4460/gtx 970 build using evga b stock gpu for about $640.

I'm not sure if I should tell him to wait or not.

if you don't wait you're either retarded or hate your friend

Pairing a 1070 with a 4460 sounds retarded and it would be at minimum a hundred dollars more expensive just for the card. A build for him revolving around a 1070 with a proper comparable CPU would be over 900.

Are all the lower end cards going to drop in price too?

970 is fine if your friend only plans to game at 1080p. the 970 and 980ti both are the 2500k/2600k of GPUs in terms of value, and they gain a lot from OCing.

>Using Windows for anything
Stay pleb

So is the entire 10xx line.

Nice meme.

Buying a 970 is dumb no matter how you look at it.

It would be dumb for a individual to acquire a 970 even if 1070 wasn't announced.

the 390 exists. There's no reason to get a 970 with cucked ram.

You're stupid if you believe this. Why do you think they're launching the other cards at such high price points.

Price drops won't come until Christmas. 760's and 770s were still gong for 200 and 300 dollars well into the 970's life cycle.

they were almost full price until they seemingly evaporated over night in feburary/march of 2015.

970's and 980s will keep selling at full price, with the 970 being around 300-350 and the 980 being around 450-550. And about 7 months from now, they'll vanish.

if you get it for like $200 then it's a good deal.
I wouldn't pay more than 215 for one though

970s have been $200 on b-stock for over a year now.

They are 260 on bstock

or you could buy something that isn't a pile of garbage

>garbage
>best selling GPU of all time and best value for ~20 months, but clearly it's bad and you should buy the AMD rebrand that performs worse despite being double the die size and $150 more expensive.

If you want to play something like $100 for a card and play older games that you pick up for $5 apiece, then yeah, a 970 would be a great candidate.

I've had mine since the end of 2014 and it's been a very good card. I play at 2560x1440, generally at pretty high settings, and I've never run out of RAM.

It's significantly lower-powered and much quieter than the AMD 7870 card it replaced. So much so that I'll probably hold onto this 970 to use in an HTPC or similar application.

are you retarded or something?
I said B stock cards are garbage, not all 970s

Are you fucking retarded?

No really. After everything, after like five scandals, 3.5, all the coil whine stuff, all that shit, with the 390 existing and NOT objectively a defective product, you are going to buy a 970?

What the fuck, why? Get a sapphire or MSI 390

>hawaii
>not a defective product

Do you have sauce on these jailbaits?

The 970 is cheaper, I personally own a MSI 390 though.

Just want to get my friend a good deal

Starting to think to tel him to get the 6600k and everything now, let him borrow my 7870 and then he can get the 1070 later

stay with the i5 6500.

The 6600k is retarded, that extra money for the 6600 or 6600k overclocked will not get you any significant performance increases over the 6500

What should I pair with an i3-4130 if I want to play at 1080p medium

Seems silly after all the new mobo, ram, no factory CPU cooler etc. to not get the 6600k

>our in house testing produces a ~6x higher failure rate then "in the wild"
not suspect at all
and would you happen to have the conditions for these tests
or a comparable review next to other products?

Your money is better spent elsewhere most likely, but do what you want. You probably overspent on the rest of those things already anyway.

>most modern games
less than 10 new titles have been confirmed for using DX12. 50% of them are chink garbage mmos and mmofps. One of them is dogshit ubisoft watchdogs 2, and the rest are Microsoft exclusive shit that you buy on xbox unless you're a friendless twat.

I haven't even told him to buy anything yet

>4K 60+ fps
>implying people who have a 4K 144fps monitor will use a 970/290 with it

He means secondhand, probably.

>Pairing a 1070 with a 4460 sounds retarded
You're opinion is shit. an i5 is enough for a 980Ti in most cases

If you have to buy now, get a used 4GB 380, otherwise wait for 1050/470

The 1070 is a 980ti basically

And yeah an i5 is but a 4460? It's like low end i5?

So should I tell him to do that or get skylake?

Yeah since the 390 exists.

...

The new chips are small and cooler. Yes it would be dumb. The price drop won't be worth it. There are AGP cards going for $100 - $200.

new? Yes absolutely

2nd hand? Depends on how low the price is

With the 1070 at 980ti performance I would not buy a used 970 for more than 150$

It's a meme, you dip.

>The 1070 is a 980ti basically
My point exactly.

>So should I tell him to do that or get skylake?
I would wait and see what Zen has to offer. Four cores with hyperthreading will be the lowest config, which will at least drive prices down. The 4460 is fine though

>It's a meme, you dip
I know i was just waiting for a chance to post that stupid picture
your doing great

Zen? You mean amd?

Amd for CPU?

>would it be dumb for an individual to acquire a 970

yes
