It isn't, they suck equal.
Both are botnets, both have problems. Skype is used more, so if you already use it, there is no reason tho switch.

>discord shills on my Sup Forums

>2015+1
>not using a carrier pidgeon

Neither are guaranteed 100% NSA proof.
Discord at least functions as advertised.
I hate Skype so fucking much and discord has worked great for the few months I've used it. Easy to get stubborn people and pug friends in Coms too since you just give them a link. As long as they don't fuck up their monetisation I don't see myself ever going back.

Discord won't give your IP to anyone who knows your username.

I like discord a lot more. Skype is more personal and discord is for communities of people. Both are shit in their own ways though

Skype doesn't anymore either.

The entire internet is NSA central, so it really doesn't matter.

Microsoft has been proven to give the government access to their systems in the past.

Skype is not to be considered safe from government spying by any of the nations working together. Used to be five eyes but I am sure its bigger now.

This the US built those big data centers so they could vacuum up everything and then sift it after the fact.

But ya Skype is still probably directly backdoored.

>Carrier Pigeon

Good ol' RFC 1149 compliance

Pros are
Better privilege management, in Skype host can hang up on anybody no matter the call master.
Better voice quality, codec & bitrate
More permission options, easy to sort people.
You can individually mute people, why the fuck Skype can't I don't know.
Personal preference, I like rooms more than calls cause it seems more like a hangout, and call doesn't drop when host leaves.
There's so much more I like but I'm typing on phone so

> While the software itself is free, the developers are investigating ways to monetize it, with possible options including paid customization options such asemojior stickers.[3]

I like appear.in for video conversation, discord is cool too, but it's more like a mumble/ventrillo/TS

I admin a server and I would pay like 3$ instantly to get a flowery/pink theme that I could force on everybody

Only Free Software can be botnet free.
Unfortunately not all Free Software *is* botnet free (see Ubuntu), but at least some is.

Is any of the 'Skype' is a botnet actually proved? Like can I read an article or so about it. Trying to convert a friend from Skype to Discord, but he's stubborn as shit, I just need any ammo

Pretty sure it was confirmed part of prism in the snowden leaks

Is discord usable if i don't care about group/community stuff? It seems to be more oriented towards that but i just want to talk to my friends 1 on 1 as i do with skype and as i did with msn

Same guy, found an article
theguardian.com/world/2013/jul/11/microsoft-nsa-collaboration-user-data

It will work fine, you just won't have a use for a lot of the features

"This article was amended on 11 July 2013 to reflect information from Microsoft that it did not make any changes to Skype to allow Prism collection on or around July 2012."
At the bottom

>Discord
meme

Don't need to change if its always been that way. Seriously though idk then.

Seriously, why don't they make a im and video calling protocol so people can use any client they fucking want to?

cant make money that way

Just use fucking CryptoCat or IRC with OTR. Signal. Anything that's actually open-source and respects your freedumbs pls!

It's more likely than you think!

>Is Skype NSA central?
Are you 12? This site is for people 18+, kid.

>Cryptocat
>Safe to use

Kill yourself.

cleaner chat
updates dont break features
better audio
multiple voice channels
better hotkeys
voice sensitivity
vastly better UI

You lose out on logging, text searching, proper quoting, a good backlog, and (simple) 1 on 1 voicechat.
