Tfw debian boots from grub to xfce in 4 seconds

>tfw debian boots from grub to xfce in 4 seconds

Does anyone else enjoy rebooting their linux machine just so they can enjoy their blazing fast SSD boot times?

Even if you don't care about boot performance, keeping your swap partition on your SSD improves performance so much that you don't even feel the swap thrashing when opening 200 chrome tabs on a measly 2GB of memory.

Why haven't you put an SSD in your laptop yet?

>he fell for the ssd

>Why haven't you put an SSD in your laptop yet?
I like my HDD activity LED blinking

>Why haven't you put an SSD in your laptop yet?
Im poor

I considered it, but it's just not worth it to spend money on a C2D laptop.

Also, I want to hug Kirie.

>putting swap on an SSD

Enjoy buying a new drive in a year.

>laptop
laptops are theft targets and need full-disk encryption, and it takes me a good six seconds to type in an encryption password, and then more to log into my user account. So booting can't get very fast in the first place.

I do agree it makes things snappier once the system is running though.

I have an SSD in my T500 actually. It's an ancient OCZ from like 2009. It used to be in my desktop, but I replaced it with a larger, faster one, so I had it lying around and figured I might as well use it.

well if you write much data to swap at all something is going wrong. Swap space should be an insurance policy against OOM, not something you actually expect to use a lot.

>it's just not worth it to spend money on a C2D laptop.
i disagree
web related, C2D laptop with 1G ram

You'd probably get a little bit faster if you didn't have verbose as kernel boot parameter but the aesthetic is worth it.

>rebooting
>2016

I don't have an SSD, but i was shocked at how fast GNU/Linux shuts down compared to windows (back when i was new)

>tfw w10 boots from bios to desktop in 3 seconds on a 90MBps laptop HDD

>tfw bios takes longer than the OS to boot
This is on 2GB, btw.

Why don't you hide grub menu by default? Since you only run Linux you probably never pick any other option

Even if you hide the grub boot, it probably won't run faster than setting the timer to zero.

>laptops are theft targets
Do you live in a city? Also, not my T420

Greetings from Australia on a HDD. :^)

How do I improve my boot times on Arch? I'm at about 7 seconds now

>using the smiley face with a caret nose

>he fell for the ssd meme

>UEFI
>"fastboot"
not even remotely comparable to the other videos

run "systemd-analyze plot > /tmp/plot.svg" and have a look

>y-y-you can't use superior technology das cheating!!!11

1. our machines don't have UEFI, even if we used windows, the BIOS won't go by any quicker
2. fastboot is not a full boot, rather a modified form of hibernate, this can be done with linux as well, but there's little reason in demonstrating with it, as it involves little more than reading a chunk of sequential data (which is literally the only thing HDD's are good at)

> 'falling' for hardware that has measurable improvements
You sure showed him

>Botnet 10
>superior technology
WEW

>fast""""""boot"""""""
My computer also takes 20 seconds to start from hibernation.

If linux is so good, why doesn't it have fastboot enabled by default in all distros. Checkmate freecucks. :^)

To filter out the technologically impared

Dump folder pls

user...

Explain

these are commonly circulating pictures, there's no reason to assume that person actually has that folder

You will probably die before your SSD kills itself.

>Does anyone else enjoy rebooting their linux machine
What the average linux user does on their machine, ladies and gentlemen.

The average *nix cunt never shuts down their machines for muh uptime

>he fell for the debian

I feel you senpai, even booting into unity it is nearly instantaneous

>starting from fancy hibernation
totally the same user

>Tfw I do that on W7 and it doesn't look like a fucking tablet

>starting from fancy ssd
totally the same user

>compare ssd with hdd
>yea but ssd's and hdd's are different!

>using a GUI in linux just to show the world you're a pederast

my wallpaper is covered with windows 99% of the time

I thought putting swap on SSD would lead to accelerated degradation? Is it ok to do that?

>tfw laptop has Chinese SSD
>~30MB/s reads

I get about 5 second boots on my T420 with Msata ssd on Xubuntu. I didnt even bother customizing the lightdm loading shit because i never even see it anymore.

baka

Did you bought it years ago? They recently got their act together with the KingDian's

A few months ago, it's ironically branded FastDisk

Yes, SSD wear is a meme.
Even if you pounded your SSD with terabytes of read/write cycles a day, it would still last many years before it gives out.

Your SSD will probably outlive you. Chances are that power failure or some other bullshit is the cause of its death.

What's a pederast, Walter?

why is that boy wearing a skirt?

hello again, stalker-kun

>tfw have so much RAM that it adds a noticeable delay to boot

I only have on sata connection left, should I buy a SSD and make my computer faster or a large hard drive to store more pictures of anime babes?

SSD, when you run out of space you can always buy a PCIe SATA card.

Sit at my desk
Boot lappy with windows on SSD
Fart
Windows is ready
Finish farting

I'm living the dream Sup Forumsee
