What cool shit should I buy?

I got graduation money to spend. VR headsets are cool, but the whole DRM thing makes me reluctant to buy until that's all figured out. The Asus PG279Q monitor is cool, but there are QC issues, 4K seems to be the way things are headed, and nothing can push 144+ Hz at 1440p anyway. What do I buy, Sup Forums?

>4K seems to be the way things are headed
says who

Most people can't see the difference between 720p and 1080p, they sure as shit can't see the difference between 1440p and 4k

I could use that money my kids are hungry man come on

Gamble it

>tfw made a girl pregnant
>tfw only 22

you have no idea how anxious your post makes me m8. Is raising kids that bad?

The fact that 4K blu-rays are starting to come out. Don't care that most people are blind. The difference is huge to me.

That being said, I'm worried that if I had to run a game at 1080p, it would look bad on a 1440p monitor.

You're in for a treat

What GPU are you running?

970, but I'd upgrade to 1080 if I got the monitor.

It is if you are poor. If you have money to pay the bills and some left over to save ANd then buy some of the shit you want..it is not so bad. But if you are poor..every little bit needs to got o keeping that kid alive..your wants become secondary..at best. Because remember..you also have baby mama to take care of too, Hopefully she isn't a waste of life and has some potential. But then again, she got her young dumb ass pregnant didn't she.
You are most likely fucked I am betting. Hopefully both of your parents got their shit together so you can lean on them. Like most young couples do.

If you look at reviews, the 1080 is barely able to hold 60fps at 4K. You're better off going 144hz, 1440p, gsync and a GTX 1080.
>t. Someone who's got a 1080 on the way

Don't waste it on an incremental upgrade at such a monumental price. Maybe if you were upgrading from something like a 770 it would be worth it but the 970 is still pretty damn near top of the line.

I just graduated and am working at Oracle for a neat salary so I'm confident that i can afford it., I just dont know if i have either the time or intesteres

Slip her a morning after pill

If he had a 980TI, I'd agree, but it's a huge leap from a 970.

You're derailing my rich guy thread with your poor guy sadness. I will not have children prior to financial stability, and to make sure, I will be a permavirgin.

From what I've seen, it can't even do 60 FPS at Ultra, and I don't want to have to choose between resolution and graphics quality.

Oh well then you got a shot at a good life man. Don't fuck it up. And really, once you hold that kid..time and interest isn't an option. It will get what it needs and you will give it willingly.

Unless you have a social disorder or something.

A lot of the benchmarks are bullshit because they're throwing unnecessary levels of AA into the mix. The whole point of having a 4k display is not having to use as much AA to get rid of jaggies.

The card can run Witcher 3 at 4k, settings maxed out, with only hairworks off at a solid 60fps.

Sorry, back on topic..I got a Vive, it's cool man. The ladies love it. Great for porn and other shit. I have had no DRM issues to really deal with so I think you mean the Rift with that concern.

As cool as VR seems, do you not think it's still really early to be throwing such big bucks at it? With it being so new, no one really knows what direction it'll head in a year or two, so your return on investment might be extremely low.

Well, I guess I don't see it a big bux really. I mean sure it is not cheap but less than a grand is not big bux to me. Sure at times it has been. But I do okay and I have wasted money on toys that cost as much many times. It is just the way it goes for some toys. Granted I don't like wasting money, but I believe in VR/AR and if I want to see 2nd 3rd 4th gen tech someone has to buy the 1st.
For some of my friends it is golf clubs or biking shit..for others it is tech toys...everyone drops dimes for their own interests.
And you see if a company puts out a product..and no one buys it..they usually don't keep making them and improving them. Not usually at least.
I don't want another 15yr gap in dev investment and corp optimism.

I mean Oculus is locking the Vive from games, and the Rift might not be able to play some Vive games because it doesn't have room scale. So either way I might be locked out of experiences.
I'm sure I'd have to upgrade in a couple years, but I'm okay with that. Higher resolution, no cords, and lighter equipment is all very much worth it IMO.

Oh and I forgot. I got the Vive for use with DCS and iRacing primarily. So it already has met it's expected use goals as those titles support it. Everything else I can enjoy with it is just icing on the cake.

Actually you can bypass any DRM with Revive so it is not an issue.

Yes right now but they're actively trying to stop it and I don't like the possibility of getting locked out of games suddenly.

The content is just growing and they will break whatever changes that get made like has occurred every time so far. Oculus will fold and not restrict before it is over I am betting. They are just shutting out a large percentage of a small market currently and they will see that that is not in their best interest. They have been taking a pr shit storm for this and they will feel the effect.

As it stands now, most of the titles are on Steam anyways..only a few are oculus exclusive. I just don't see it as an issue.

If you want something now get the Vive. The way Oculus has been shipping you're going to be locked out of far more games since by the time you get Touch we're probably going to be looking at what the next gen of the Vive is going to be.

But this nigger.com

Invest in yourself faggot

Get a 278q. Better colors. No backlight bleed. Only downside is viewing angles. But they're not bad IMO.

If you don't already have a 144hz monitor, for sure get one.

>Most people can't see the difference between 720p and 1080p, they sure as shit can't see the difference between 1440p and 4k
Stop saying this you stupid fuckcake. These are not universal terms. 720p vs 1080p on a 21" monitor might not be too noticeable, but 1440p vs 4k on a 60" TV will be. PPI > Resolution.

Travel, dumbass.

>gimpworks

>Most people can't see the difference between 720p and 1080p, they sure as shit can't see the difference between 1440p and 4k

>PG279Q
I dont trust Asus with monitors any more, got one of those and I returned it, had terrible backlight bleeding.
And from what I have heard, a LOT of other people have had the same issues.

Money is easy as hell to come by, just buy shit from Chinese factories and resell them on Ebay/Etsy/Amazon. Literal monkey work and few hours.

Also the eye can't see more than 24fps or more than 32bit colour.

:^)

pls explain.
Is there somewhere I can read more about this, I have the whole summer with nothing to do and want to make some money

Alibaba. Really you should have googled that yourself, but I've pretty much just handed it to you on a silver platter. If you still can't manage the rest on your own, you should give up now, you'll only loose money

not him but i've been an ebay seller for 10 years and i'm looking to get into sourcing shit from alibaba. do you have any tips for haggling with them? how much should i generally try to get off the posted price?

Just get the TN version. Less QC issues and lower input lag, also cheaper and looks pretty good to the point where I don't miss my IPS monitor.

you could say it's normal. if you're not looking at a black image, it doesn't matter anyway.

if you care about blacks, get VA or wait for oled

people are just too uninformed to not expect drawbacks on any product they buy when it can feature different types of technology

Thing is I dont rly wanna throw out over 1000 dollars on something that feels defective, looking at a black image or not.

>the whole DRM thing
only the oculus is trying to start an exclusivity war. the vive is open source. if you are going to buy vr buy a vive.
you can also play all oculus games on the vive as modders have of course got them all working with simple fixes that bypass the oculus drm.
I got a vive recently and it's a fun little toy if you've got money to blow.

Just remember that they are ALWAYS trying to fuck you. I have my own products custom made by them and I have to demand much higher quality than I actually need because it's always a little lower than the original sample they make and send. Same with price, ask for lower than you need and stay firm. Dealing with the Chinese is a long process, but it's well worth it for the huge profits you'll make.

Oh, and don't pay any attention to the posted price, you'll be buying for a completely different amount. Most sellers there will have the same product up for different prices just to get more hits in search results.

Also make sure you pay them using Alipay, it means they don't get you're money until they've made your product to your standards.

One final note; sellers have a little gold coin and a number next to their names that shows how many years they've been selling for. Scammers rarely make it past a few months, so if you buy from sellers that have been around for at least 3 years you're safe.

No it can't.

How is the porn? That is literally the only reason I would buy one.

I also recently graduated but didn't get any money to spend. Can you send some my way and we can share the happiness tgt?

>being this much of a cuck

This is why the white race is failing, we seriously don't support young couples having children.

OSVR. vr is too young to shell out too much money on it. I say get the shittier OSVR just to get a taste, and shell out serious $ in a few years
