Tried out KDE but it was a buggy as hell so I went back to Gnome. Was thinking about giving Cinnamon a shot.
why does that image have transparency
>Winfags and Macfags need not apply
Of course not.
Only toy OSs use window managers.
Making a virtue of a necessity - the linux way.
Do you think the lack of popularity of Linux is likned somehow to the need for things like window and package managers?
Is KDE 3.5.14 aka TDE considered as KDE?

Windows and Mac have primitive window management, try to learn something or get out of the *technology* board.
>Only toy OSs use window managers.
You do realise windows and OSX uses window manager do you? Or are you just that much computer illiterate?
>Only toy OSs use window managers.
lel fucking tard

i switched from xubuntu to mint a couple days ago and i kinda like it. it was nice not to have to set up compton
Cinnamon at home.
Gnome Shell at work (using Fedora and it works well enough I don't feel the need to replace it).
KDE. Love it.
>Having a GUI
xfce
lightweight, easy to customize, always Just Works(tm) for me
>Only toy OSs use window managers.
Are you advocating everyone should use only a console?
Are you accessing Sup Forums through Lynx? How do you answer the captcha?
Cinnamon
kek
Lxde because my computer is a humongous piece of shit
KDE Plasma 5.6.4 running on Slackware current.
If KDE is buggy for you, try a different distro, especially if it's not the default on yours.
I'm i3wm
Are we on KD/g/, or what?
i3+stuff on my laptop
XFCE on my desktop. If OpenBSD let me run mate (no idea why it doesn't), I'd be using that on my desktop.
Gnome 3 because it came with fedora

GNUstep.
i3 + Xfce
Openbox, been using it for years. It's minimal enough to not get in my way but has enough features to not be cumbersome to use. It just hits the right balance for me.

You fuckers love your DEs don't you
Cinnamon
XMonad
Unity. I've grown to like it after a bit of tweaking.
Unashamedly yes.
i3
the fuck
Looks fine to me fampai.
bspwm
And outdated, in fact, dead project.
tried everything thrice, became a huge fan of gnome and then realized i3 was enlightenment and was boosted to the next level of efficiency, speed and productivity. Gnome and i3 overall just get the fuck out of your way and let you focus on what you're doing imo
Windows 7 best Windows and Ubuntu VM best VM.
xmonad for work
xfce for gaming

Cinnamon because I'm not a massive homosexual.
Have been using Gnome for the last year, I don't know to explain it but Gnome just makes me feel claustrophobic and I don't really like many other DE's. Going to try mate soon, what do you guys recommend as a modern DE?
I recommend not using a DE at all. Start with a simple window manager and add the bits and pieces that you want. You're free to install whichever toolbars, docks, wallpapers, etc. that you'd like.
>not using a DE at all
>Installs a WM
>Installs a session manager
>Installs a theme modifier
>Not using a DE
>session manager
>theme modifier
No. Nor do they magically appear on their own.
Thanks, I've played around with i3 before but I guess I'll just try harder this time.
I wanted to use Cinnamon. I always managed to make that look nice.
But its widgets and gadgets and the like are pretty buggy. Some don't install at all.
Firefox complain that your strawpoll is insecure and deactivated scripts

I've used literally all the DE (older and current versions) and most window managers
I've settled on
>GNOME for more modern laptops
>MATE + compton for older ones
>KDE for modern desktops
>MATE + compton for older ones
>Cinnamon for your Mom who's used to Windows and you moved her off it to avoid the headache of troubleshooting every 10 minutes over the phone
As for DEs I like i3 the best. It's the easiest tiling wm to configure and also has a great floating mode if you need it.
You can replace KDE up there with i3 + compton if you want a more hands on approach + tiling but you do have to basically put together your own DE.
Any arguments against this? I love sperging out to UIs for some autistic reason
minecraft DE and WM.
is this really a question?
I'd love to find a DE that doesn't use more than 2GB of ram that isn't Windows.
>back to CLI
fuck dude, building a ALU in redstone is actually quite hard
props to anyone whos actually built a computer in minecraft
also if that is just a shitty calculator then no props, has to be a full computer running actual commands
Openbox.
Here are your special snowflake points
It's not only special, but also a cool piece of software that I'd recommend to the best of my friends.
KDE master race
Nothing looks nearly as good
Why is it special?
It's more simple and less nonsense than alternatives.
No, we know it;s autism
