I've never had a Windows update fail that wasn't a broken install of Windows due to user error.

Formatting a usb stick is a nightmare in linux.
>Open gparted >Create partition table >Format to fat32 >Error. Couldnt inform kernel of changes to disk >Unplug it >plug back in >Open gparted >Format fat32 >Finally it formats
Windows: >plug in usb >Diskpart >list disk >Select disk >Clean >Make partition primary >format fat32 >done

The PC will continue its trend toward irrelevance. Even most of Sup Forums doesn't do anything that necessitates owning one. They play games or find ways to make their computer an end instead of a means. A small minority actually do something creative/productive.
Liam Turner
or you could mkfs.fat /dev/sdb1

I have been here several years.

Are winkids THIS much computer illiterate?
Jose Flores
Not after linux fucks up the partition table you cant. Or after the disk has been used as a live usb. You need to create a new table then you could do that. Also have to worry about drives being mounted and all that shit. Diskpart does that automatically and its a tool as old as windows xp.
Gabriel Scott
fdisk /dev/sdb
Camden Lopez
mkfs does not alter your partition table shitposter.
Jack Sanders
Its more than just one command even with fdisk and you still have to fiddle fuck with mounting.
Blake Johnson
Please reread the post.
Luis Howard
are you trying to say you literally broken windows update while clicking stuff? why is this allowed?
Gabriel Roberts
lemme guess you used dd or gnome-disks to put an iso on it ,and it fucked up your block size? If not then why are you making a new partition table when you reformat?
Jose Williams
Saging isn't down voting fucktard, it just doesn't bump the thread. Your post is redundant.
Jordan Perry
Report button is super-downvote. Nothin personnel...kid...
Ryder Wood
Yes dd. Because mounting it as a loop device and copy pasta is just another step to deal with.
Either way the while process of repairing a drive in linux is a nightmare. In windows its completely painless.
Ian Cooper
well best way to fix dd is by using dd: sudo dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/sdX bs=1k count=2048 where /dev/sdX is your usb drive. I use this instead of the windows "select disk / Clean" next you do an partition table and format the disk nomrally , ofc you need to make sure none of the disks are mounted before. Its not that different, and i bet it can be done simpler i just dont care enough to lurk moar for this.
James Edwards
Probably more likely to fuck yourself doing that.
Easton Ortiz
Looks kinda like a hack to me.
On windows it just werx.

I do that with rubber domes to ensure every keypress registers.
Cameron Foster
Well its not a hack ,you just tried to do make a new partition table -> new partition primary -> format fat32 without cleaning before. Try it with diskpart without clean and it will shit itself too.
Gabriel Ward
I know.
Explain that to this dumb fuck.
Henry Nguyen

next time just make a .webm instead of greentext. It will have better impact.
Daniel Barnes
Ironically reducing productivity and making the business lose more money than the cubicles would have cost
Cameron Martinez
the problem was that he used dd to make a bootable usb from an .iso. Which fucks the block size , and makes gparted think that a 2GB flash drive is 4GB in size or something, and when it tries to format that it shits itself.

Must be dense if you can't read the reply above your own
Nathaniel Jones
No i mean some user has gone ahead and fucked up their install and then windows went to do an update and that brought it all down
Isaiah Walker
whats more important is that you can shit all over windows for months before it finally fails and becomes unusable, but in linux just one small incorrect thing or bug makes the whole thing become broken
>install arch for fucking around >cant install, freezes after the usb stick boots up, had to disable options in my bios that caused usb 3.0 ports to stop working >install, pacman wont work after booting up and the problem has no information on the internet whatsoever except a few things that dont work >reinstall, pacman works this time despite the same install procedure, but now the dm fails to start on boot and xorg becomes unresponsive instantly >fix that, but now the desktop has a ton of artifacts and windows that were closed tens of minutes prior flash on the screen occasionally >remember that im trying to use a server operating system in a desktop environment with half baked foss software

I've been told aptitude is better. Although in my experience, apt-get is better at resolving dependencies issues.
