ITT: Normie panic

NOO user!!!
YOU'LL RUIN THE CD ROM DRIVE BY NUDGING IT TO CLOSE

USE THE DAMN BUTTON!!!!!!

>if you ever just rip out the usb out of my laptop without unmounting it first I'll never let you use my laptop ever again

>ok that's it, fuck off you bastard

>YOU'LL RUIN THE CD ROM DRIVE BY NUDGING IT TO CLOSE
No.

(PC hangs and stays frozen for almost an hour already)

>NO. STOP. If you push the reset button I'll use all of my data!

>BRO YOU GOT TOO MANY FILES!! THE LESS FILES ON YOUR HARD DRIVE THE FASTER IT GOES!

Not strictly wrong, drives near max capacity will cause slowdowns.

>Which one is better Mac or Windows?

This
I still can't download something in front of my family because "it'll slow down user!!1!!!11!!"

>leenox?
>a u like... a fuggin hagga?

>Dont click when you see the loading symbol, that only slows it more

>Fragmentation is still an issue

Sonic! He's got an attitude. Sonic! He's a oh fuck it...

>HE'S THE FASTEST THING ALIVE! HE'S THE FASTEST THING ALIIIIIIVE!

>its glitching bro!

>hard drive breaks
>I GUESS U HAD 2MANY GAMEZ LEL

>Battery saving mode has okay performance

>dont move the mouse

lmao

I have about 120 excel files from my customers. I think Ill soon have to upgrade.

SSD write speeds slow down with disk usage. Doesn't really have to do with fragmentation.

>YOUR GAMES GAVE THE COMPUTER VIRUSES

>FIX IT RIGHT NOW OR BE DISOWNED

The stupid part was the HDD was 80GB (this was a while back) and had only 3 games installed (CS1.6, Quake 3, and Half-Life) - hardly too many even by 1999 standards.

>2009, wipe the malware off my grandma's laptop.

>Her seven year old backlight burns out a month later.

"I think you've broken my computer!"

>lag

Kek

Inb4 that textless screencap

...

fucking this. took me 5 months to convince my buddy that you didn't have to "safely eject"

OH FUCK THIS. I KNOW THIS TOO WELL.

>user, you're good with computers
>help me with this and that
*helps
weeks later (diskettes brought from work still lying next to the PC)
>help me unfuck the PC. you ruined it. I paid $2000 for it and it's like brand new

a little later turned out the office where she got the diskettes had a severe virus problem.

Why do you people let your relatives treat you like trash?

I've had 0 issues with family or friends blaming me for random bullshit. Maybe I'm just lucky with people that are not retarded but still these stories sound way too exaggerated.

>not unmounting
Hate this meme. If either of you unironically believe this, get the fuck off my Sup Forums.

I hope both of you corrupt your filesystems because you still had data in cache when you ripped the drive out.

Seriously you dumb niggers, "safely remove/unmount" wasn't put there by the OS designers just for the lulz.

Dumbass, you DO have to safely eject.
Flash drives are slow, and because of this, the OS caches all write operations to the flash drive in RAM, and slowly gets around to commiting them to the flash drive.
If you write a bunch of shit to the flash drive and suddenly eject, you just corrupted all your data.

Safely-eject simply forces the OS to commit all cached writes RIGHT NOW so you can eject it safely.

FUCK

>PAUSE MUSIC FIRST BEFORE UNPLUGGING THE HEADPHONES! YOU DONT WANNA BREAK THEM

wew la

You dumb nigger, I was agreeing with you.

lmao, this is a new one for me.
I'd probably throw the person out in the quickest way possible

I hate it when people just remove it when they dont know there's no file transfers.
It's ok to pull it if you're not using it, but a lot of retards just yank the damn thing without checking at all.

I was helping some lady install chrome on her computer and she wanted me to transfer over her firefox bookmarks. I opened up firefox to export out the bookmarks and around 30 tabs opened. After i exported the bookmarks I closed firefox, and then she flipped her shit. She said those tabs had been important to her and that she's gonna have to go and find them all again and that it'd take hours. I used firefox's restore recent tabs feature and opened them all back up again, to which she said that those weren't all the right tabs. I apologized and asked her what she did when she needed to close Firefox, and she showed me that she just restarted the computer (Firefox was set to reopen all previous tabs). Anyway, I kept apologizing and then transferred over the bookmarks.

damn yankees

...

Don't hit the power button to turn it off! You gotta go Start -> Shutdown!

Miss, it's not 1995 anymore. It's OK.

You just ruined my day

Coworker said the about his harddrive the other day. Now he's worried that if he adds any at all to it it'll break.

>tfw there is still not Windows 9 and Half-Life 3

Theoretically couldn't this fuck the motor up though
I rarely ever saw cd drives fuck up opening and closing back in the day but people who had ones that did I'm sure was from this

>"Normie click the hidden in folder options"
>"normie thought that the files got deleted because it's gone."

MY FRUEND

Lost some good porn this way
Whole folder got corrupted.. shouldn't it have only ruined the one file it was working on? Maybe my drive just failed.

as long as I closed anything I had open from the drive, I've been fine. never had an issue. won't fall for the meme

If you really shoved it hard you can make the tray skip teeth on the gearbox, which would require disassembly to repair, usually. I've had that trouble where the computer was on the floor and someone smacked their leg into the open CD tray or a rolling chair was pushed into it etc.

>I choose to take this unnecessary risk because I don't want to waste a half second to safely eject the drive.
>It works on my machine.
End your life. Besides, the original post was
>if you ever just rip out the usb out of my laptop without unmounting it first I'll never let you use my laptop ever again
so you can eat shit and die, faggot.

I also hear your mother is a whore.

I just wait until the access light stops flashing, like a fucking floppy drive.
Never had an issue.
I don't see what all the autism is about.

don't cut yourself on all that edge

>"Internet Explorer is faster on Windows because it is made by Microsoft"

also, I'm not the retard that does all his sensitive work on a flash drive. shit was only ever used for transfer

...

>my uncle told me to fix his old ass PC when I was a kid
>decide to format the whole thing because that shit was beyond my novice repair man skills
>"uncle I'm about to format the whole thing, everything will be deleted, do you need anything from HDD before I wipe it clean?"
>yeah I got nothing in there just wipe it off
>2 days later he told my dad that I deleted his work files on purpose and I got grounded for two weeks
>a month later his laptop burned out and he blamed me for that too

What kind of massive dirty asswipe is your uncle?
Holy fuck.

if thats true how come diskmark on a generic usb 3.0 drive isnt lightning fast?

you must be a nu-male

marine copypasta?

gnu/linux?

Don't ever move files between drive, copy, then delete the old version. pleb.

they're not, people are just generally stupid and believe whatever they want.
>"YOU RUIN MY PC"
>wat?
>"THE THING YOU DID 2 YEARS AGO BROKE MY PC!"

ssd aren't affected by fragmentation

>Sup Forums believes this

>Dumbass, you DO have to safely eject.

What's with all these pansies ITT?

I never had any problems with flash drives.

I just pull them out when there's no traffic and the LED on it has been off for a couple of seconds.
If you rip that shit out without checking, of course there might be fucking up taking place but otherwise? Pff.

it's not a meme, it's windows shitty write delay "feature"

IM MAD

megaman

You clearly have no idea how a xHCI driver stack functions. The OS has no way of knowing you are going to pull that shit out without you telling it. At any time the host controller could be handling a critical operation and removing power/connectivity to it could permanently damage the device.

Like I give a shit after a whole decade without any problems

Canadian

Once my mom thought I got a virus on the family computer and she screamed at me so loud I hid in my closet for like a day

...

Fragmentation is not the only issue. As files are written to a hard drive they will begin to be located nearer the inside of the platter, and access speeds will be slower.

Did you ever come out?

Yes I came out eventually after she felt bad and made amends.

Good that your family embraces you for who you are user.

HAHA That's a good one, especially since nobody who uses flash drives for real use Linux.

Get real, faggot.

oh my gosh user this is bait right?

Faggot you get real fake as fuck keyboard warrior and it's not even mechanical hahaaha

Not for the sake of the computer, anyway. Without safely ejecting, it is a bit of a crapshoot whether the data on the USB drive will be good.

I did this for a long time. Then I bricked an old mp3 player (has no activity light of course) by not safely removing it. It's rare, but it's a thing that happens and it's probably best to keep good habits.

jesus am i the only one in this thread who's ever seen this menu?
btw, quick removal is selected by default for removable media.

seems like quite a few would even go so far and turn off the PC before they pull out the flash drive just to not damage their $5 stick and the porn on it

Honestly, no, I haven't bothered keeping up to date on the dumb ways Windows handles mounting and unmounting drives.

But either way, it's still good to properly eject it to keep good habits. If you eject but don't need to, you've lost nothing but maybe a second of your time and the trivial effort of a couple of mouse clicks. If you don't eject but it turns out you did need to, you might have fucked the data on the drive.

But hey, no skin off my nose what you do. Just don't go giving me shit for doing things properly, even if it might not be absolutely necessary.

>user I'm canceling my internet subscription because I was notified that I had been hacked.

In Linux, OS X you probaby get some file corruption if you write to the drive and pull it out after it says it has copied everything, it usually is still operating even if you can't tell.

In Windows it depends if you're setting it as quick removal or performance, if it's performance, it's basically the same as with Linux, it shows you it has copied everything but actually it just buffered the files to memory and is still transferring them to the drive.

Wasn't Sup Forums supposed to be full of programmers and shit?
Guess that's the level of intelligence that counts as a developer these days.

On HDD's it is a issue, not on SSD's

Instead of rationally explaining?
Or just calling it quits and asking money for the time wasted.

Fuck you

wasn't this like a shitty CPU thing

...

I've trashed thumb drives and SD cards by jerking them out.

If you're not carefully you really CAN hose them, but, wait until it's been long enough for the OS to quit fucking with them and it should be fine. Just don't copy a bunch of files then as soon as the transfer window closes yank it out.

for rotating discs this is somewhat true though.

>Wasn't Sup Forums supposed to be full of programmers and shit?

Before 2010 it was like 80% "nerds"(part enthusiastic, part bored) and 20% normies/shitposters, now it's like 50% people who own a smartphone and want to talk about their smartphone they're about to buy, 10% nerds and 40% who are not only bored but also just shitpost because it's so easy and low effort around here

shut up fag

>SSD's

What are the SSDs in possession of?
