Budget Laptop

Should I buy this laptop? My budget is $130 and I need something decent just for web browsing, watching videos in 1080p and the fact it has an SSD and 8GB of RAM is kind of convincing...

This guy has 100% positive feedback. Smells like shit

T400 is pretty old. I doubt it could even play 1080p video smoothly.

Yes, I highly recommend this laptop. I'm using that exact laptop but with 4GB. So far I haven't been disappointed. I'm running Ubuntu 16.04 flawlessly and Windows 7/8/8.1/10 have worked great when I tried them out on it. I suggest getting a computer bag to carry it in though because it's a bit heavy.

He needs something powerful enough to play the files, not necessarily display them.

OP, bump your budget up just a little and get a t420.

T420 has an ass screen.

Get a T420s, which can be modded to use a 1080p IPS screen for the best experience

You aren't gonna get that for $130

But $130 is pretty arbitrarily low OP, just wait an extra week or two for your next paycheck

...y-you have a job, r-right? :^)

>watching videos in 1080p

You just have no clue how fucking stupid that sounds considering the laptop doesn't offer than kind of resolution.

>stupid fucking people will be the death of us all

Retards shouldn't post here

Fuck off

believe it or not, laptops with 1600x900 screens can scale a 1080p video and play it

also a T420 can support up to three external monitors, all of which could be 1080p

stop being a dumb faggot

OP: at least get a T410 if not a T420. You'd be well served for a few years with a T420 and some minor upgrades down the road (SSD, 8gb ram, a quad core chip if you want it, external monitors, a dock, egpu, whatever)

join the Thinkpad army

Just get a Chromebook. I think theres one with a 1080p screen

Sorry for not responding for a while but I do have a small income. I mostly make electronic music and make a little money here and there when people buy my songs.

It doesn't fucking matter if it can scale the video down

If the screen isn't 1080p there's no point in selecting 1080

This was actually very helpful. I've been using thinkpads since they were owned by IBM but my last one died on me.

additional info: Like the motherboard crapped out and I don't know enough about computer repair to solder anything that technical.

Thanks btw, good to know. I don't really play very graphics intensive games either and my buddy has a Lenovo T400 that can run LoL just on mid settings.

Post bandcamp pls

Tell that to youtube and their bitrates.

On newegg you can find cheap refurbished business laptops too. Little more organized than eBay.

I saw a couple hp probooks with sandy bridge i5s that'd be in your range. I owned one myself before giving it to a friend. One of the easier laptops to do basic work on. Would recommend.

Also Dell E6430's and e6420's, they're built like tanks (short of a tough-book)

Being able to play 1080p doesn't change the fact that the screen is just terrible in general and an awful experience watching things on, the black levels will never look right no matter how you tilt the damn screen, some darker parts will always be brighter than brighter parts

Thanks for letting me know this. But I'm quite used to this style of screen and have been using older Lenovo models in the past.

I much more prefer Lenovo brand models.

>watching videos in 1080p
Most laptops displays don't have such high resolution so they'll downscale the video when playing it.
I don't see the point of 1080p on a screen that doesn't have the res and it has to do extra computing just to downscale WHEN you could get 720p at very high bitrate.

T60/T61 and older Thinkpads had glorious IPS or AFFS screens. Then when they went over to widescreen they started using the worst TN panels ever made.until the T440 when they went back to IPS again.

Any Apple product.
