So my group chat on live messenger finally disappeared (yes, it still worked up until now, somehow).
What is a good alternative? Skype is fucking gay and IRC is too old school for my normie friends who were also still using live messenger. Must have a PC client and have a permanent chat room that you can just drop into and out of. Message sync is not important. I like not getting messages from these types of chats when I'm not online.

Discord

Oh and non-botnet preferably, I forgot to mention that.

>Skype is gay
>IRC is too old
>Discord is botnet

How was MSN not botnet?

telegram - absolutely no botnet because the guy is crazy anti-gov russian

It was, but it was the botnet I knew and grew up with. Friends didn't want to change so I stuck with it. Now that it's dead, I finally have the chance to push something less botnet.

how is discord more of a botnet than MSN or skype?

Facebook Messenger

Who could be behind this post?

Google Hangouts

>IRC is too old school for my normie friends
But hey, it's seriouse biz you know.

I'm surprised nobody has shilled Tox yet

matrix (search for: "matrix chat")

Oh you fucking 12 year old.

Swap those two digits. I was just stating the obvious.

bloated unsecure shit

skype is the only answer.
grow up.

>I want an alternative for Messenger
>but I don't like the only alternative for Messenger
Thanks for the shit thread retard OP. Just use Skype.

Pidgin.

/thread

As if there aren't any better applications for multi-user chatrooms than Skype.
Skype being so fucking terrible is the whole reason I was still using live messenger in the first place.

Just use teamspeak

Tox

THIS

Because it supports a bunch of chat protocols your normies can use their bloated shit and you can use Pidgin.

Slack. Slack is the fucking best.

Nice tinfoil

Slack is nice
Everyone sees your email, so it's somewhat different and should be considered when making something open

But coming from messenger, that's not really a concern

Slackbot a cute

Telegram

Whatsapp has group chat and a browser client and you can probably tell it to not show you messages on your phone.

Irc is the only non botnet, and it doesn't support voice chat or images. You should at least try discord. You dont even need to make an account.

Mumble

Slack is nice yeah, I use it to communicate with my classmates. Not sure how good it is for personal non-professional communication though.
Whatsapp is out of the question. It needs a mobile account, needs your cellphone to be online and is generally shit on PC.
Telegram could be great, but I don't trust their homemade encryption scheme.
Mumble is more for VOIP which is not what I'm looking for.
IRC is pretty good but hard for normies and somewhat limited in features.
Google/Facebook shit is obviously too botnet.
I don't know... is there anything better?
Has anything topped MSN in the way they did group chats? I loved the amount of customization that allowed for. Like different font colors for different users and shit.

xfire
steam friends
open a window of wow and start a guild together
carrier pigeon

>carrier pigeon
That's got to be the most non-botnet solution yet. Thanks user.

The only secure chat is point-to-point with audited source code and trusted encryption algorithms.

WoW window, just for that group chat feel.

Firefox Hello

Hi

Because everyone knows it's shit.

Jabber.

Whatsapp is for poor third world country cucks. If you're going to use something like that, at least go Telegram so you literally don't have to give everyone you're phone number just to talk to them.

Opera Hi

Trying Slack right now. So far it seems pretty perfect. How's their security?

>you're phone number

Well done, tard

If you want to download anything from that site you need to be from Bulgaria. So set your X-forwarded-for header to any IP adres from bulgaria.

>being this insecure
go outside sometime m7

Steam

Well done, tard

Admittedly, I should probably turn off autocorrect.

Why does he want my phone number though?

/thread

>too old school for my normie friends
are they retarded as-well?

Of course, I like to associate with fellow retards.

whats wrong with discord tho, me and my friends finally just ditched skype since its absolute shit and now i read this

>get on slack
>use >implying
>mfw it turns it into a nicely formatted blockquote instead
goddammit, I'm too used to using Sup Forums style > that I completely forgot what it actually means.
Can I turn it off somehow?
