Have had a job for 2 months, fulltime, raking in the dosh

>Have had a job for 2 months, fulltime, raking in the dosh
>tell dad I want to get a nexus 6p to upgrade from my iphone 4
>he tells me to not get one because he thinks I'll get fired from my job soon because I've been fired in the past (who hasn't) and then I'll be stuck without a way to pay bills
>have payed off every other bill in the past, including car / insurance
>mfw on iphone 4 still

Is he right? Are current phones still only for people with solid income?

You've been employed for 2 months. Most Jobs have a 3-6 month probation. Wait for your probation to end and they can't just get rid of you because they feel like it, unless you're willing to buy the phone outright.

Its labor outside. I got a $2 raise two weeks ago even. $15/hr now.

Why don't you just buy outright you stupid cück

Just buy a One Plus 3 instead.

>just started working
>already looking to spent money on useless shit
>dad isn't a retarded nigger like you
you're your mother's son, aren't you?

just don't buy on contract. buy the whole phone at once.

also he's right.

Yeah he is right. Wait until you've been there a year or so before blowing money on unnecessary things. Don't be childish and impatient. I'm sure your iPhone can browse the web, play Chinese cartoons and make/receive calls just fine. I'm still using my droid turbo with no plans to upgrade. Simply because it does everything I need. Sure I want a better phone, but it really isn't necessary.

underrated post

>who hasn't
people who aren't retards
>started working full-time and your first impulse is to spend your money on a new phone when you already have a decent one
this is how i know you're black

>Yeah he is right. Wait until you've been there a year or so before blowing money on unnecessary things.
my iphone 4 sucks fucking ass. I have 512 mb ram on it and a partially cracked screen. Its an embarrrassment.

I've never been fired

Also never been fired.
Cushy job, too.

you're probably the boss's son. Not everyone is the fortunate son.

Also 15/hr is very little money. Most likely not enough for you to live off of depending on where you're from. Save up as much as possible. You will regret all the dumb shit you bought if you don't. Because something catastrophic will happen. The only thing that's gaurentee in life is that something bad will happen

Jesus fuck, if you're asking us then he's probably right and you're asking for reassurance. If you can't assess your own previous behaviour, a bunch of strangers on their internet won't be able to either. You make me sick.

I got myself fired once to avoid paying my employer back for $15,000 in relocation expenses. Moved back to the city they relocated me from and took a job that paid $12,000 more a year. 17 years later and I make $150K there now. That is like director pay at my last employer.

Where I'm from $8.50 is the minimum and thats what I was making before when I got fired. Now I'm pulling in double, with 40 hr weeks, etc.

More like I fulfill a niche that is hard to come by in this day and age--a student worker that isn't a lazy fuck and does exactly what he says he can do.

Get a job that gives you a iphone. It's what I do.

Don't be a retard. You are poor, buy the phone outright.

Buy a xiaomi Redmi note 3 pro 32gb or mi Max and be done with it. That way you have a phone nearly as good for $200.

>lcd screen
>2gb ram
b real

Just so we have context, what's min wage where you are? Because here in Seattle, $15/hour is minimum

$10

Its kids like OP who complain that they cant buy/build a house or afford wife&kids because they always spend the money they earn as soon as its on their acounts.
I see it every day, people dont know how to save money anymore, because they think they are missing out on something if they dont have a big car, nice phone, etc...

employers are slashing jobs left and right now days, you better hope your are essential or it's just a matter of time before you end up in the bread lines.

the clock is ticking on this system, It's failing, and even if trump can put capitalism on life support we still got almost another whole year before he can even start...

>who hasn't
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHA
Oh wait, you're serious? HHAAAAAAAAA

mate, iphone 4 is hot garbage, especially with a cracked screen. No swag. You wouldnt know unless you still used one.

If the dosh you're making isn't enough to buy the phone then you aren't making dosh. If you can't save up enough to buy it all at once, you're definitely not making dosh. As someone who has been now jerked around by the tech company I work at and might not have a job 6 weeks from now after being promised a full time job after the probation period which I fulfilled as of last week, only buy things you can pay off in very short term means. Goddamn bought a car. That's what I get for trusting, I guess. So much hell of dosh, too. Augh.

Maybe I'll be able to keep the job, though. Guess we will see.

Not even remotely worth it OP. Keep your nose to the grindstone and keep working

This would be more appropriate if it wasn't basically ~$500 we were talking about.
It might even be a one time splurge which, after purchase, will be the only thing OP spends money on.

Hard to say, though, without OP answering this.

>raking in the dosh
>$15/hr now.
>No swag.
End your life, maybe.

This seems weird to me. Wait for a year before spending.. what, ~$600? How little money do you nerds make?

>$15/hr
>I want to buy a $400 phone
Why the fuck do people do this? I make almost $100k and I feel incredibly wasteful spending $400 every 2 years. I only do it because I work in tech and I would arguably be damaging my image among my peers (and thus hurting my career) if I didn't have reasonably new communications gear

Dude you work in a warehouse and haven't even been there a few months. I've fired guys that were on the job for over a decade with a 2 week severance just to show some modicum of improvement on my 5s report. You are the complete bottom of the totem pole in a shit job. A Nexus 6p is a luxury item. Shit like this is why people dig themselves into debt. Save your money. A years salary saved is the minimum recommended by most financial advisors. When you've been there a while then upgrade. Have you look at a xaomi or a hauweii phone though? Those aren't bad. If your phone gives you that much trouble them get a cheap one. I was getting g pussy with no phone in college. No one really gives a shit, it isn't a status symbol. It's just a tool. What you should be worried about is getting a decent, cheap used vehicle though. Like a corolla or jetta.

same here, the most expensive phone i bought so far was 300€
I just cant understand people who buy 800€ smartphones while they could be using that money for vacations, etc...

damn dude's got long eyebrows

Basically just stop being an entitled little shit. You're here complaining about your phone while some other kid is just wishing his dad didn't beat him and put cigarettes out on his stomach. Just fuck off you little shit

I have almost nothing besides my car, my job and my pc. I'm turning 30 in a couple months. Live with my dad. I look at my iphone 4 with cracks on it and cry everytime.

>who hasn't

Most people? Sure, I've been laid off or quit to get another job, but never been fired.

The reason I know you are lying is because you are acting as though people give a fuck what phone you use

Your lack of long term planning is probably why you're in this situation in the first place. Consider what you're going to be doing when you're 40 before spending $400 on a cell phone. They make perfectly good $100 phones these days, buy one of those instead.

be japanese dude, rock your phone until it's dead

Gis a job, I can do that.

The reason I know you're in a position they only hire assburger patients for is that you think the tech industry is immune to the same kinds of shallow judgmental bullshit that every other industry suffers from

Here's a neat trick: show up in a nicely tailored suit (assuming you could afford one) and see how "non-judgmental" your peers act. Oh look, it's only acceptable to wear hoodies and sneakers, would you look at that.

Same deal with gadgets, if I show up to a client meeting with a 4 year old phone, it makes me look out of touch, and by proxy it makes my company look out of touch.

Then use your money to move out and get your shit together instead of asking for permission to buy a phone on Sup Forums.

the fuck dude, grow up.
where you a neet a couple of months ago?

This. Kids these days don't even spend a second researching their bullshit before lying, it's pathetic.

Buy a very cheap used laptop, buy an even cheaper usb phone, buy an arduino and gsm shield, put it all together and you have your own custom smartphone for a fraction of the cost of a sheeple phone.

I was neet for a year or two, went to art school, got a job in outside labor, got fired from it last fall, now i have a new gig.

>art school
>>>/retardland/

Man, you're definitely too frugal if you're scared of spending 400 dollarydoos when you make ~8-10k a month. Especially if you have job security.

You actually might be bad with money. Spending too freely is bad, yes, but not spending anything at all out of mysterious regret is just as bad for you.

>not spending anything at all out of mysterious regret is just as bad for you

Except for the part where your bank account balance keeps growing and growing.

I suggest you wait. Especially after probation period (if there is one). Also I haven't been fired from a job yet, and hope never to be fired. I'm not a lazy bum. And before you say something being laid off is different as you don't have control of that

And the part where you can invest the money so that your balance moves on its own.

I've actually been fired 3-4x lmao. Somehow I keep getting new jobs

>The mentality of a warehouse manager is that nobody in the warehouse matters and I don't understand how a good work environment helps workers be happier working together

I've worked in a warehouse before, managers are always just the shittiest dudes who continuously ruin good work flow.

>Its an embarrrassment.

Christ you're retarded. Literally nobody gives a shit about you, and you think your phone is an embarrassment? Having a job and still living with daddy, with him telling you how to spend your money, that's an embarrassment.

Maybe you'll disregard this post as "stupid" but I've been using my nokia 100 since 2012 and it works just fine. I can call people and text them. I have internet at home, why would I need it when outside. If I need it at work they have computers for it.

I just got a better job with a 1 year contract, and I plan on saving mostly everything, because I don't know what happens after that.

My crappy piece of plastic phone still works, I'm not replacing it. Noone ever said anything about it.

I said it feels wasteful, you called it "scared". Those are different.

I don't feel that phone technology is changing all that much these days. I felt a great deal of pressure when I was carrying around a flip phone and most people had already gotten smartphones. Making small talk about phones still happens and it's a big enough part of first impressions that I feel no guilt buying a phone. It's the same attitude I have about getting a $35 haircut every 3 weeks, or spending $500 on frames instead of buying some shitty Warby Parker crap. Investing in my personal appearance.

Doesn't mean I would do it if I didn't feel that it was important.

this has to be one of the stupidest posts i've ever read

if you're OP then you completely deserve your pathetic life

That's cool man. I'm glad you don't feel like a piece of shit. I am the type that would be embarrassed to admit I was fired.

Warehouse managers don't make those decisions. They usually barely make anymore than the workers. I'm an industrial engineer. And it isn't that we don't know what were doing, you can easily tell if removing an employee would improve production vs cost or not. Just because the bottom line is pushed harder doesn't mean it's worse for the business. Warehouse work is a back end process. It really is just the shit end of the stick in terms of job security. That's all I as trying to say. Obviously you've experienced that too.

>$15 per hour translates to nearly $100k a year
Not only an aspie, but also really bad at math. Entry level IT helpdesk?

How old are you? I can understand if you are below 25. After 25, no one gives a shit what you do.

absolutely this

>used to be a second rate mechanic fresh from school
>started at a big steelplant
>worked hard
>take extra classes
>4 years later
>got one promotion, passed people who worked there longer then me
>sort of a supervisor now
>other promotion soon if i play my cards right.
>my own house now
>new car in september
>money on the bank

When i see underachieving faggots like OP i just feel disgust for them.

WORK HARD, NEVER STOP LEARNING

if you cant do these two things then you deserve all the shit thats comming your way.

When I was 21 I was extremely depressed because I was still living with my parents. I channeled that energy to get a job, and used literally my very first paycheck to move out.

You, on the other hand, are worrying about a phone in the same way as a common nigger who absolutely needs to get those 300$ Air Jordans while living in a hut.

With this mentality you will be poor for the rest of your life.

>$15 per hour translates to nearly $100k a year

If you work 16 hours a day it's perfectly doable.

>inb4 nobody works that much

Nah you're just lazy and retarded. My half time job when in high school was 10.5 hours a day at roughly $2.70 an hour, and I still had time to study and sleep; I'd easily work 16 hours a day for $15 an hour, I'd even do it for $7.50.

This is great if you don't have to worry about family or other obligations. I almost wish I was single again and only worried about me.

15hr is okay, but not enough to go dropping money on a new phone after working for two months. You need to start saving and maybe even start investing before you start buying a bunch of luxury items.

>who hasn't

In case you don't know, being laid off isn't the same as being fired. Getting fired usually implies poor performance at work.

I'm not hourly. I occasionally work 16 hours a day during certain phases of a project. More than a couple of weeks like that and I'll be looking for a new job though.

Hours like that are justifiable if you're in high finance or a white shoe law practice and you're planning on retiring at 35.

Otherwise, save your body and seek balance.

What does you having a different phond have to do with your ability to pay bills?

If you get fired now, without switching phones, you still won't be getting paid.

Listen, everyone here is giving you shit because you obviously make bad decisions. It's funny, but strangers are generally more honest regarding your strengths/weaknesses than family and friends are. You need to stop thinking about frivolous things and save your money. It may not be easy, but in the long run it will be worth it.

Think of it this way, a year from now, would you rather have that $600 in a savings account or some phone that you would get tired of since the next 'big thing' would be out?

>$600
Mate...

Substitute that number for however much the phone costs.

$600 is literally nothing ...6 "bucks"

Hey, if he waits 25 years or so with compound interest, he can afford a $600 phone with his $400 investment

Okay, but I still think $600 is a lot of money. That could be used to help pay rent, or buy food. You don't need to try to brag on this Columbian Quilt Maker's Socialist Party forum.

Spend less than $150 on a perfectly usable 2-3gb RAM, quad-core phone, maybe with a 5" screen.

Pick one. Doesn't matter to me, because it'll still get replaced in a couple years.

(posted from a Verizon store free XT1030, almost two years old. I'm upgrading to a droid MAXX in another week or so {for $129}, because money)

This. I'd rather having $5 more in my account than spending them on useless shit. If you do that with everything the sum is good money.

Christ if you can't pay full price cash you can't afford it.

You should use credit. Trust me, it's free money

((You))

I don't get it...

3gb, nigga

First off, the min wage in Seattle is GOING TO BE $15 by 2021, we still have 5 years to go. It currently sits at $11
>inb4 muh big companies have thee years
60-70% of all workers are employed by small businesses.
Second, the places that have willingly gone up to $15 early have faced many problems, one such being that a lot of "formerly poor" workers are refusing hours so they can keep their Obamacare benefits.
Third, the places that have willingly gone up to $15 early (mostly independently owned, non-chain food joints) are also facing massive income struggles
>"He estimates that a common budget breakdown among sustaining Seattle restaurants so far has been the following: 36 percent of funds are devoted to labor, 30 percent to food costs and 30 percent go to everything else (all other operational costs). The remaining 4 percent has been the profit margin, and as a result, in a $700,000 restaurant, he estimates that the average restauranteur in Seattle has been making $28,000 a year."
>36% labor cost
>$11 an hour
Imagine what that's going to be at $15 an hour standard labor rate across the board.
Seattle is a shithole, fags like you make it worse, don't ever advocate for or suggest or even mention $15/hr, christ's sake nigger you don't even understand that it isn't actually $15/hr yet and things are already bad because of it.

t. NEET

Ok jamal.

My name's Perry and I make $100k a year.

For what purpose? Having money you don't use is the same as having no money. If you're saving to invest it and retire early, that makes sense, but just... having money and not spending it is a waste.
That being said, it's your money, do as you wish with it. This is strictly just my opinion.

That's fair, it's your money to do what you want with, obviously.
Spending money on your appearance is an excellent spend of money, really. If you feel you look good then you'll feel good and if you do it through your hard earned dollar, it's just that much better.

it could also imply your manager's a dick.

You're wrong but you're not wrong. Work flow is important, if you remove those that people like as often as people they dislike, people will be unhappy and even leave. That being said, as long as the job gets done, that's what really matters. Warehouse jobs are definitely grunt work and people know or should know what to expect and accept that as they go into it. I left because the people that kept our work flow cohesive and effective were removed through either being moved to a project or fired while the people who we actively complained about as being negative to work flow were kept on and even given more hours. Productivity would have been better had they been let go or moved to other projects as they didn't even want to be there half the time.

I have only worked in 2 warehouses though, so perhaps I have just hit on 2 which have bad management.

You need to realize that nothing is perfect, you'll likely never work in a place that is "cohesive", relationships unfortunately matter more 99/100 than raw performance numbers, and the management has a different, and probably much more accurate, view of how everything is going together than you do

These monthly payments fuck you anyway.
Save up until you have enough to buy the phone 100% and that's it.

Fuck off chink shill.
OnePlus should have died months ago, it's the biggest fucking scam in the history.

>>Having money you don't use is the same as having no money

Imagine you receive an unexpected bill of $1000-2000
>Have no money
You're beyond fucked.

>Have money
You're fine.

I can understand if you'd want an upgrade from an iPhone 4 with a broken screen, but realise you can do that fairly cheaply. A well-kept second hand Xperia Z3 era phone would have you sorted for ages M Night Famalan.

>second hand portable electronics

Disgusting
