I'm a cuck who bought one of these and now I'm desperately trying to justify my purchase

The fuck are you supposed to do with 1 Terabyte of storage, let alone on an SSD.
Do you have any use for this amount of storage space Sup Forums while still needing to be accessed quickly, and if so what is it?

You can watch 4k porn off them no problem

Video editing

HD Anime BD Rips

>you have .5 tb of storage for mih vidya
>1tb of torrents

Put your games on it so they load fast? I dunno.

I wish, If I do it'll be on a 1366x768 X220.

I don't see what the problem is. Put it in your computer, use it, and forget about it.

>850 Pro

I bought a cheap 1TB TLC SSD for 200 USD.

It helps with loading times in my video games.

>buy what you need
>do not buy based on greed
>do not buy based on peer pressure
>1TB of SSDs are for filthy rich people, not for normal users
You ignored the warnings. Now you can bathe in the tears of regret.

Alternatively, you spent $200-$300. In the grand scheme of things, that is not exactly the wealth of a nation that you wasted. You overspent by ~$100. No big deal, dude.

But then I won't be using it to it's full potential, it just feels like such a waste.

>Do you have any use for this amount of storage space Sup Forums while still needing to be accessed quickly, and if so what is it?
Nested VMs.

Great for a laptop with only 1 HDD bay

Thanks, sempai

Feels like a waste to use a product? Are you feeling ok? You are not considering suicide, are you?

heh

...

3d rendering

that amount of storage allows you to create content that can get you riches

it'd be good for fast rainbow tables

I've been dying to get my hands on one of those PCI-E Intel SSDs, the 1.2TB models in RAID 0 could easily decrypt A5/1 on the fly

Buy more and run a fast and efficient server.

TB of SSDs are for filthy rich people

$300, filthy rich

my sides

>rainbow tables
why not use a ram disk?

time is money, yo

I'm using half that for games alone right now, and I have a pretty small games library compared to some people. I don't even have the standard 800 hours of torrented music and 2TB of torrented hentai that some of these fuckers on Sup Forums have.

Downscaled is better than upscaled.

>using a SSD for hentai and music

Why did you buy a 1tb SSD if you don't even know what you were going to use it for? Are you fucking joking?

>he has spinning disks in his nearly silent mini ITX machine

A bad impulse decision, I have poor self-control.

Get on my level son. I bought these when they first came out too, $1,500 for both.

Struck down harder than Ron Sullivan

4k JAV

And what did you end up using them for, beyond typical OS and media storage?

Nothing beyond video games and porn.

8k porn textures for skyrim

Dammit OP

If I trimmed my music collection I could fit all my shit on an 256GB SSD. Just store everything on an SSD, reading your precious movies won't wear it down.

Get 4 256gb SSDs and Raid 0 them and put your Steam folder on it.

Because they are fuckhuge? Why even bother with small ones.

>he doesn't store music on his SSD
Enjoy waiting a solid second to play a track.

This is going on a Linux machine, as such most of my vidya is going to be Nethack, Doom, and Dwarf fortress. Is there strong linux support on steam?

I could really use that much fast storage. I would install a bunch of software vst's (virtual musical instruments). Some of those vst's can be 50GBs just for a single patch. Playing an orchestral score with a high end VST for every instrument part would use a boatload of memory, i can easily see using 400gb at a time casually. My favorite piano vst alone is a 45gb sample library, for a single grand piano voice

Pretty much this, my girlfriend works in advertising at a media company and she needs a mac, needs heaps of SSD storage, needs 32GB of ram and needs a fast processor. You don't need this kind of set up for games or data hoarding.

If you're getting paid by the hour it ends up being cheaper being able to render large files more quickly rather than paying employees to sit around browsing reddit/Sup Forums/tumblr instead while waiting for shit to finish

It's pretty decent, now, and getting better.

You also have WINE which is pretty capable if you're willing to put some effort into configuring all that shitfest.

I suggest you buy 64 GB of RAM, just so all that extra storage space can keep up ;^)

>cuck

BTFO

>using the smiley with a carat nose

>he has a mini-ITX

>The fuck are you supposed to do with 1 Terabyte of storage

dunno man...

I considered buying a 120GB SSD when I saw them for $30 to store my OS.
Then I realised I only turn my computer off about once a month

Who are you quoting?

>But then I won't be using it to it's full potential

You are a normie consumer, _nothing_ you own will likely ever be used to its full potential.

Still though even if you are making more than the top 95% of people after taxes that's like 6 hours of working. So it's not that cheap

>SSD only affects boot times

Thanks for the replies everyone. I think now I have a better idea about what I'm going to do with all that space and speed.

You are RETARD

You have to be a massive idiot. Why the fuck would you buy hardware without knowing in advance for what you would use it?

Install your gaymes on it, faggot.

I have about 16TB but it's in RAID 1 since I'm such a paranoid fuck over losing digital files so each increase cost's 2X.

Do you have any kind of backup system in place?

I put one in my old SATA2 laptop and it's like the difference between night and day. Best purchase I ever made.

truly under rated comment

I could fill at least two with my various applications since I have slow internet and it takes forever to reinstall stuff since nobody puts everything on physical install disks these days.

Yeah

joke's on you samsung doesn't have real tech support

RAID isn't a backup.

>needs 32GB of ram and needs a fast processor.
Not really. You can edit 4K video on a fucking MacBook.

The MacBook plays games with the footage to achieve that speed like re-rendering the footage into ProRes in the background, if you dont want to transcode before working with your files than the extra ram and processor help a lot.

And even then, the more you can store in system memory, the better. The 2015+ MacBook can get away with less ram because its PCIe based SSD has writes of like 2+ GBps or something crazy like that.

>into ProRes in the background
So?

Oh shit this nigga just stole your hard drive.

What's wrong with that?

...

>SATA II
Oh son.
Hahaha, I did that too and I'm not even mad that it's only SATA II because it still makes a world of difference

How loud are they? I have a 500 gb ssd in my build and just picked up a 1TB hard disk just because they're dirt cheap. Will I regret the noise? Or will it make me feel nostalgic?

This

Man I love that sound... it's like an old muscle car engine. WD drives are the juiciest.

My WD Black sounds like someone holding a sharp piece of metal to asphalt as they go 70 mph down the road.

Considering I waste half an hour of my pay just for shitting 6 hours is nothing. I literally earn such a thing by shitting for about 7 workdays.

>My WD Black sounds like someone holding a sharp piece of metal to asphalt as they go 70 mph down the road.
That's not really a healthy sound.

I've had no HDD for the past 3 years.
Just these 2 drives:
- 256GB 840 Pro for Windows and games
- 1TB 840 Evo for consuming media

>He fell for the SSD meme

4 year old HDD, never been able to max it out.

Suck my cock

2TB is for plebs, waiting for red pro 8tb

Horrbile idea, one fails and all the data is lost.
Just get one good one and that be it

Where you getting yours?

SSDs are a meme.

All my games are on this refurb SSD I got on deep discounts.

Not only do I have this 4tb red almost filled up but I got about 12tb of loose hard drives full of shit.

Use windows for gaming faggots

Holy fuck BTFO!

I use one for fast loading vidya. I also told myself it would load my 25k+ picture folder faster on the Windows file manager, but that isn't the case. At least Lincuck doesn't have this problem.

Raid is more for data loss not backup.

If you lost files by deleting them on one drive, they would get deleted on the other drive at the same time.

>there internal SSDs
>one 120GB for OS and programs
>one 1TB for samples
>one 1TB for more samples
>two external SSDs for even more samples
Being a music producer is tough desu.

Oh, and the two external ones are both 500GB.
Affordable 4TB SSDs when?

I can't wait until enterprise shit comes to consumers. Fuck, I'd love to replace my six 4TB zpool with two 16TB SSDs in RAID 1.
>mfw the future is so far away

Same.
I'll use the SSDs I have now for backup or fucking around with new cheap builds just for fun.
Only 3 more years, I hope.

I dont have a use. Until ssds get cheap enough to replace the 4tb hdds in my nas my 500gb is all i need.

Also this. You dont need it professionally? Then you dont need it.

Hey, I'll take it if you don't want it, man. Really, I wouldn't mind helping you out of this very serious predicament you're in. I'll bite the bullet and take one terabyte of solid-state disc off your hands, no problem. I don't mind.

Nope, can't say I'd have any need for that much space, and I regularly encode Blurays. All I'd need is 256GB for all my muxing needs.
Now if one would only come up on Craigslist for $20.

>RAID isn't a backup.
You're right. It's better than a backup. The only way you'll lose data is if you fuck up and manually delete it, you don't need to worry about bit rot for the SSD since it always has power to it and you don't need to worry about the grease in the hard drives drying out.

* well shit, there's two 500GB 850 EVOs for $75 ea.
Too bad I have $31.

Dont lie on the internet

I had to choose between a mobo with an m.2 port or a u.2 port. I choose the m.2 one. Did I fuck it up?
