I was just trying out Dark Souls 3 on my aging computer... How come it's only using 50% of my GPU power?

Because you're getting only a half of your ass handed to you with such a build.

chinese mystery?

IF

I run ultra sark souls on my 5 years old computer
consoles stoped progress of gayms anyway
this is more /v tahn /g so git de fek out

Bottleneck?
post your specs OP

its a really shitty unoptimized port

its also VRAM bottlenecked, you need at least 2GB. This is both because there are no texture quality settings that do anything and that its coming from a console engine that expects 8GB of shared CPU/GPU memory

to back up my point about texture quality settings

Dark Souls 3 is very poorly optimized.

That's not how it works, gaymur child

AMD 6870 1GB
AMD Phenom II x3, 3ghz
12GB DDR3 RAM

>AMD Phenom II x3, 3ghz

Yeah, it ain't maxing it though

in the end its the 1GB VRAM that kills it

my phenom x4 sits at 40-60% while I play

OP, what exactly are you using for those counters?

MSI Afterburner

Your CPU is not capable of processing instructions quickly enough for you GPU, this is bottle-necking your GPU and limiting usage to 50% to increase overall system stability to not overload any of your hardware and crashing your computer.

It basically is though. Your GPU is VRAM limited and your CPU isn't fast enough.

Also, just because it isn't maxing it out doesnt mean it is capable of using your CPU to it's fullest ability, no matter what software optimisation.

Upgrade several parts of your computer, starting with your motherboard, then CPU, etc.

I did that/EVGA precision x + rivatuner server. Do you really need so many programs running, or can you get away with just MSI? Sorry I can't contribute to your bottleneck solution.

I just installed MSI Afterburner. It will also install another program called statistics server or something, but you need it because that's the program that's actually recording all your stats. But you need to set up the overlay in MSI Afterburner's settings.

Install all you want OP, you are going to waste your time. Just like we are all on typing replies to your thread. You need to comprehend it just isn't going to happen.

Yeah, I guess. I was just curious if it would run, I didn't buy the game or anything. It's actually playable, if you consider ~30 fps playable that is.

Ah, thanks. I like the clean look. As for performance, lower your resolution. If the framerate doesn't change, that may scream it being the CPU (logic to frames? I can't think right now). I'm with the others though and think the vram is probably a good chunk off the issue. Best of luck

FM2+ motherboards are really cheap, go look at a FM2+ and Athlon X4 760K combo.

its a very unique game when it comes to performance, I suspect there is something really fucked up with the underlying engine.

Apart from 4k, there is almost no performance difference from lowest at 800x600 to highest at 1080p, and its also locked to max 60fps regardless. The game itself is pretty looking and is an awesome game, but its performance issues just suck.

Maybe I'm just bitter at my aging computer, but this is the only modern game I haven't been able to play.

>there is almost no performance difference from lowest at 800x600 to highest at 1080p

DS2 was the same, it was only about 10 fps difference between lowest and highest settings on 1080p
