that looks disgusting

dat blurry font rendering

lmao

Disgusting.
The dock is complete disrespect to screen real estate.

Or unproductive

>OS X
>On a screen below 2K
Why

he poor af

That browser (while kinda nice) wastes the little screen estate you have.

It's a hackintosh on a 768p monitor.

A dock will ALWAYS until the end of the world, looks bad.
You simply can't make one that looks good and does NOT waste screen place.
All you need is keyboard shortcuts.

top kek fag

freshly installed MATE with Numix Circle icons and Numix theme, doesn't waste as much resources, doesn't cost anything (inb4 El Captain is a free update yeah, but you had to pay Apple tax for the OS before) and looks nearly as good

vai tomar no cu

...

so much wasted space

Now try running Adobe Photoshop CC on it without any 3rd party software like WINE.

>Moving the goalpost

I'm a GIMP magician, I used to do projects for money in GIMP since I was 12

>1366x768
what on earth are you running that on?

it's actually much better when it's on the side

why are the dock icons so blurry?

Hi there, do you want mommy to get your crayons?

...

>without any 3rd party software like WINE

man, WINE is a compatibility layer, it's not like it's an emulator or virtual machine, it's like any other component of the system, what's wrong with using that?

What does it matter if they are running 3rd party software? Photoshop itself is also 3rd party software.

mine looks good to me and that's all that matters.

That looks fucking terrible, are you joking?

>apple never sold and doesnt keep selling 768p devices

And on apple hardware you can't beat windows or linux performances in game, and can't have better than openGL 4.1.
Oh and the two next API will be DX 12 and vulkan. How is the implementation of vulkan ? oh right, they still think devs will use metal, which is OS X only.

>thinly veiled desktop thread
ok

maybe I zoomed it too much, idk, never noticed that
I like it, it has a bit of a cartoonish touch, I know but so does OS X

those icons are fucking disgusting
the menu bar looks crowded and nauseating

dont compare your shit aesthetics to shitpple ever again

I've always wondered why so much software design absolutely sucks ass, this thread has made me realize why - the guys behind it all are blind fuckers.

post a good looking (but still functional) desktop then

remove the menu text from the top left.
remove the icons to the right of the menu text.
change the firefox theme to match the numix gtk theme.
make the dock a bit smaller (unless your screen is small and you need it that big)

>GNOME
Why are you doing this to yourself?

>linux and os x will never look this good

Of course not. It already looks better.

aaaaand will never perform this good

>weebshit

>browsing Sup Forums unencrypted

Can you post your desktop without any windows in the way, by the way? I'm just curious.

worksafe board tho

Windows is so comfy.

Every Loonix distro looks like straight dogshit. Every single one of them.

>Now try running Adobe Photoshop CC on it without any 3rd party software like WINE.
>B-but using wine is cheating.
Of course you gonna win the argument if you set the conditions like that, and you set the conditions like that because you knew otherwise you was gonna lose the argument.

Seriously, even microsoft now accepts this compatibility layers are necessary when you need support from third parties than otherwise they wouldn't support you, for example the ubuntu for windows thing and trying to run android apps on windows phone.

Think for a moment, the way to solve the problem is to nip it on the bud: supporting platform-agnostic APIs and support open and well documented formats. Competition is good for the customers, but the only moment when microsoft doesn't try to lock their users and tries to be compatible with the established standards is when they're losing hard in a market.

Also a guide for everyone interested, is easy:

I like mine and I think it's pretty functional. Rate it.

ugly windows and linux posting should be a bannable offense

pajeet detected

ban pls
none of this weeb smut on my clean Sup Forums

fuck you, this actually looks good

linux has its disadvantages, but windows is actually quite shit.

Every single one of your opinions is dogshit tho.

>3rd party
What counts as 3rd party in an open source ecosystem like Linux? By strict definition, the kernel itself is 3rd party, since it's not made by FSF(or alternatively, all the GNU software is 3rd party, since it's not made by the linux foundation). Since there's no single vendor making everything needed for the operating system, you could argue that to do ANYTHING with Linux you need 3rd party software. This isn't a bad thing.

change chrome to use the same black color as your menu bar and get rid of the shit that follows "chrome -" in the menu bar

and then possibly experiment with a black translucency in the left bar desu

2008 called. It wants its skeumorphism back.

Mine's looking good so I don't care.

>iOS will never look this good

>1/3 of icons are flat
>1/3 of icons are just whatever the fuck they want to be
:))))))))))))))))))

nice but triggered by the gap between fr and your network connectivity

...

I think that was bait.

Skeumorphism doesn't mean decorations
For example, all Tiling WM's with desktop objects are skeumorphic, while tiling and dynamic aren't.

What theme is this?

Do you have a hi res copy of that background you can share?

>bar at the bottom
i love wasting space 2

Feeling better now ?

I can't complain, really.

Ok, I'll take your suggestions.

Oh what the hell, I'm joining in too.

Something important a lot of people doesn't get is that with closed platforms the owner of that platform needs to inject money constantly and make it succeed as fast as possible, but if the platform is open source, you have different parts of the platform being worked by a lot of different parties and it can potentially continue existing forever because the work can be continued by someone else even if the original developer stops working on it, helping in the process the new developer to not start from scratch. At the end every party can get benefited from the work investing just a tiny amount of resources compared to create everything from scratch.

YOU HAVE TO USE THE ICON IF YOU WANT THE SEARCH BAR ANY SMALLER? HOLY SHIT LMAOOOOOO MICROSOFT HAS SHIT THE BED

>getting this mad

ok so what distro looks best right out of 'box'?

tbqh apricity gets my vote but i don't use that shit consistently

How can you guys use 1366x768?

menubars are ew

this is so fucking stupid

good bait

>Your PC will never be this low res

Your opinion matters not.

What did he mean by this?

So is your sister's snatch, but she still loves having a train ran on her.

When it's the working resolution of the display panel you've got to work with, you don't really have much fucking choice.

>convoluted window controls on the right
>traffic light on the left
>using 75% of the screen for the browser and the rest is unused border

Intelligent hiding? Anyone care to explain?

or you can hide the search bar completely

beautiful. How can vanilla OSX even compete?

3. Menu bar - Contains the Apple menu, active application menu, status menus, menu bar extras, Spotlight icon, and Notification Center icon (OS X Mountain Lion).
This is on Apple OSX and almost every Linux Distro that I've seen in this thread.
Takes up extra space and is not comfy.

More than the OS design itself, something I hate about Windows and Linux is that there's no consistent voice in third-party application design. Developers just do whatever the fuck they feel like, turning your desktop into a disharmonious clusterfuck, and no amount of ricing with esoteric window managers can fix that.

Developers on OS X are often more disciplined and try to make their applications feel like they could've shipped with the OS. Not all developers do this, but enough do that if consistency is important to you, you can easily find well-behaved native-feeling apps.

I'd say this problem is worst with Windows, actually, since Microsoft has deemed it acceptable to not select any particular UI toolkit as the "right way" as Apple did with Cocoa. At least on Linux GTK apps feel vaguely GNOMEish and Qt apps vaguely KDEish.

A E S T H E T I C

It actually minimizes the space on OSX because applications don't have menu bars that way. And Docks are better than taskbars or whatever shit does windows use now

Funny as fuck how EVERY ONE that rices Linux always try and clone / imitate the Mac OS X theme. You faggots WISH you had OS X.

they are the only opinions that matter,
