How stupid would it be to buy a reference 480 and mod the reference cooler for better cooling?

Why not just buy an AIB one

Sapphire Nitros are up for preorder in UK

Dumb. Will help noise and Temps but you'll still have limited overclocking due to 6pin only

the cooler on 480s is already pretty good. nvidia did one thing right with them

I like blowers, they keep internal temps down, like on my overclocked cpu.

I wish that would go up for preorder on a NA site. Its the card I really want.

Overclocking isn't an issue. I didn't even overclock my 670 until 3 months ago and even then it was a shot overclocker.

It'd be more prudent to wait for the 3rd party cards to come out. That being said, if you absolutely have to mod the reference cooler then you gotta do what you gotta do.

Heh, user that's an AMD RX480, not a Nvidia GTX480 (it says Radeon right on the plastic).

I can't believe blowers and CLCs aren't more popular because of this. My gpu temps dropped 8°c after gaming when I installed a clc blowing air out of my case.

If you're going to mod it you might as well use the reference. Also I expect the price to drop when the 1060 comes out.

It wont, 1060 is priced higher at $299

Yeah but if it performs better or might just push prices down a notch

It depends on the airflow in your case. A blower wouldn't be necessary for my setup, and it's typically much louder. Quietness is important for me. I had a case with very loud fans for a long time.

I had 2 fans, one push, one pull.

Pretty darn stupid to buy a 480 full stop.

Why?

The leaked benchmarks say otherwise

Or should we wait?

300 dollars for 10% more fps in your goyworks title and 2GB less memory?

Let alone that it cant do vr and it has a crippled displayport

pic related, that poster

Your Jimmies seem rustled

Gimped DX12 also.

480 will most likely outperform it when the AIB versions hit + performance increases from drivers. Its pretty much neck and neck in DX11 atm anyway. 1060 left in the dust in a year, always happens especially with recent 60 cards.

>Le b-bamboozled

Shill plz leave

I can 2jz swap my evo for 3 grand

You can buy a 2JZ for 3 grand and unless you already own all the tools, materials and time, no you ain't.

implying im not neet and have all those things or friends that do

But the 1160 might be able to beat the RX480 a year from now.

has been done already:

>water cooling
I don't think op meant anything that extreme

Nvidia users will actually pay 300+ for this cheap PoS.

1160! 1080 performance for $250!

>I buy AMD gpus to take off the cooler and bask in the aesthetics

Every option to cut costs successful.

>Buy's a Daewoo at Civic prices.

>bigger heatsink than the rx480
>lower tdp
I see no problem.

>50% more expensive.
>Can buy AIB and pocket 25-50

>He thinks AIB 1060s are better
>He thinks 25 dollars is worth inferior drivers and performance

>Enjoys min spec memory bus, "Oh well I'll just lower the settings."
>Don't want to overwork my 3-6GB of ram.
>Hope in a year this garbage I overpaid for isn't 30% behind the 480 I Should've bought.

>he thinks a single 480 is powerful enough to utilise the full 8GB without falling on its side
>he thinks memory bus is the only important spec for performance

>Likes the idea of having less for more.
>Isn't aware that software in the future uses more memory.
>Compute designed for turtles is a good thing.
>Too new to tech to realize the past trends for generations of x60 from Nvidia.

>he wants a card that ships with gimped drivers
>he thinks that his $199 card is future proof because it has more vram
>he thinks a card that is slower, consumes more power, and puts out more heat, Is better

>In reality has card that loses in all but Gimpworks titles.
>1,280 shaders on a small bus is going to be a game changer for 300 dollars.
>Doesn't mind that Aib 480 will cost much less and cost pennies more in electricity per year.
>Ignore Nvidia drivers that have bricked cards(Must make their power consumption even lower when they don't work!)

name one x60 card from nvidia that wasn't shit
9600GT might have been an exception for the money, but even about that one i have some doubts with the 8800GT being around

you can skip to the end for bottom line conclusions

>he thinks 192bit is a small bus because ayymd uses 512bit housefires
>ignores that crimson killed a bunch of older HD7xxx series cards, forcing people to upgrade
>ignores that the rx480 pulls 7A from the motherboard slot
>ignores that they fixed it by gimping performance after a bunch of mainboards died

6600GT was pretty dope too.

>Doesn't know gimpworks titles are already taking 6+ GB in ram. This writing on the wall must mean something.
>Lives in a closet to notice the the power draw between 125w and 150w.
>Will gladly buy another 300+ card to take out the RX480 next year. Team Green mayne!
>Draws under 75w from pcie now but will hold onto something was patched in a week for years to come.
>Uhh Ohh they still gained perf from this patch please Nvidia us too!
>If I spread rumors off mass motherboard deaths I'll be paid money some day for my next nvidia card a year from now.

I've been wanting to use my spare AIO cooler to cool a gpu, but I'm worried about the memory getting no cooling. I guess it can be ghetto cooled with a heatsink and fan though.
