Bee peg, if you're not black.
Because it is based on a video codec (HEVC) and they're patent minefields. No one knows if BPG is even legal to exist (much less to actually use) due to patents. An image format like that will not go anywhere, ever, no matter how good it technically is.
>why are we using unix instead of plan 9
Because people are smart, educated, and the complexity isn't an obstacle to anything. We've been using unix for decades and we have gotten very good at it.
>Why are we using jpg instead of bpg
You can still see what's in the picture and storage/transmission tech is so good that the size difference is fucking negligible.
By the time "better" software becomes feasible to just fucking switch to, we make its feasability irrelevant.
Bpg might have had an opportunity if it came out in the 56k days.
Why do fuji fags only post pictures of gear?
Because FLIF is better
>intellectual property makes sense
>intellectual property is a reasonable compromise when shit doesn't expire after 1-5 years
>patent pools are a good idea (also see 2 if you think they are)
top kek, thanks for the "morals", france
This.
Or, as Sup Forums would put it: Jews.
Too scared to photograph outside where they get laughed at.
>storage/transmission tech is so good that the size difference is fucking negligible.
Not on mobile devices and mobile connections.
>.bpg
>benis picture experts group
Because webp exists.
>find [obscure file format] on google
>create thread on Sup Forums - Why isn't the [obscure file format] adopted nowadays?
fucking retard
>find [obscure file format] on google
what the fuck you illiterate retard
just because you don't know it exists, doesn't mean its obscure
sure is summer here
>Not supported by one single web browser
>Not obscure
Not that guy but nice straw man you have.
Because nobody really gives a shit about a few KB. Advantage is that JPG has extremely wide support, everything can open and save it and we should just be thankful for that. Imagine we had the same compatibility hell with images just as we have it for video files or a little less for audio files. Nah, it's fine as it is.
We still have oil, there's no point in alternatives.
We still haven't mapped our planet, why explore outside of it?
It's pronounced biff.
