/mkg/ Mechanical Keyboard General

Rebooting a general, I'd like to know more about HP's retro line of workstation keyboards, C1405A or C1405B, I like their design a lot but don't know how it feels to type with.

Average price on ebay is about 110, shipping included but they aren't in good condition, is there a modern equivalent of it?

What do you mean? Rubberdome keyboards? Yes, there are some, if you look hard enough.
Colourwise, SP Lily is pretty close, but that shit is rare.

This is the Ferrari Testarossa of keyboards

Just out of curosity what is the cheapest mechanical keyboard you can find?
The cheapist that I found was an OEM keyboard for police crusiers that had cherry mx black switches and was under 30 bucks.

Kind of a newfag here. Bought a Ducky One a few months ago and really enjoy it. If I want to replace it's keycaps, will any do as long as they have a Cherry MX designation? If so, is there a best online retailer for aftermarket keycaps?

That is one dank looking keyboard

Do the black HHKBs show fingerprint oil on the caps?

Looks like the C1405A is membrane. Dank in appearance but trash ultimately

I found a tenkeyless tesoro keyboard with kailh blues for 15£ not too long ago

wasdkeyboards
custom keycaps for a decent price

>TFW waiting for Planck to ship

mechanicalkeyboards.com/shop/index.php?l=product_detail&p=1484

ordered and excited

What's the fucking point of mechanicals. A $15 membrane keyboard does the exact same thing and it doesn't sound like a fucking assault rifle. Fuck you fags.

should i get a fullsized keyboard

wow 2 whole memes in 1 picture

>t. poorfag

Gateron blacks are so nice.

If you use the numpad, yes.

Otherwise, not much point.

Any happen to have bought one of these PBT Topre spacebars? Just wondering if the quality is shit or not.

The Meme Knight

They're made of PBT and functional. But the quality is very mediocre compared to the ones Massdrop has.
I planned to use them on a new board but I quickly switched it back to the stock ABS spacebar because it both fits and feels better. I'll just wait until we see the good quality one drop again.

Thanks, I'm just going to hold off then and wait for Massdrop.

Can someone post the cherry mx chart, please.
I don't know if I should pick Red/Browns.

Red if you want light keys for gaming
Browns are mush, get clears or zealios

Ignore that chart garbage. Go black or go home.

You should go gateron

Here you go.
Browns are an ok starter switch for those who can't choose between the clicky and linear camps, but ultimately they're very mediocre.
Reds are more specialized and better at what they try to be, but some can't cope with the complete lack of tactile feedback.

Most keycaps will show oil. Unless you keep your hands clean.

> Tape over Webcam
> Uses Windows

Basically, the point of that chart is that you should be getting buckling springs.

HELLO

He even taped it wrong, classic windoze user.

I also have Sennheiser headphones and a memechanical Seiko diver

>memeOS
No that's windows

>Sign Up For Massdrop
no thanks

I too have sennheiser headphones do not regret your purchase user the headphones are not memes.

>AT101W just shipped

Anyone else had experience with black Alps?

>Topre switches stiffen over time to +40-70% activation force

That's pretty gay

Is KB Paradise a decent brand?

Yes, very. Products aren't great, but mostly cheap and thus worth the money.

Cool, they're 15% off at mechanicalkeyboards.com. Guess I'll go with that then. Now to pick a switch.

is there a coupon or something for that?

Why do people pay $120 for fucking ABS?

The answer is gateron black. I just ordered a v60 mini yesterday lol

DAE think pbt good xDDDDDD

15% Off All KBParadise Keyboards
Coupon code: KBP15
valid 07/01/16 - 07/15/16

It's on their site under coupons and discounts

Found someone that spent $120 on some hipster profile and colorscheme.

meant for

What's the difference between gateron black and yellow?

Made a comparison chart that also summarizes the whole debate about whether or not Topre switches belong in a mechanical keyboard thread.

Topre aren't consistent over time though. They stiffen considerably after a few years.

I was thinking about cherry clears but I'm not sure if my fingers would get tired with them.

thanks a lot man

I have a blue board and want to try out linears as I don't need tactiles (and all the other tactile, non clicky switches seem to be not to my liking) all the time.
Can't decide between reds and black though.
Reds might be too light but they are more common while blacks could be too stiff and they are more rare.

Any advise?

no they don't

did you read a single forum post saying they do, get all excited that you have another thing to whine about the topre 'meme', then rush over here to shit post about it?

What's a realistic price point for the IBM Model M?

well that depends on what you can find

like $30-70 for dirty used ones, probably with broken rivets

That's the absolute best.

Sure, the people measuring theirs at ~70g after 4 years are lying

whats the point of a tkl keyboard

does anyone ever use the numlock/scroll lock, pause/break, print screen, insert, delete, home. end, pg up, pg down

yeah sure buddy
find me some shitty korean forum posts claiming that
go ahead, please

Anyone know other places I can buy this keyboardco.com/keyboard/uk-filco-majestouch-2-nkr-soft-linear-action-keyboard.asp keyboard with red keys in the UK? I've tried other website but this is the only website that sells the red switches

amazon?
US amazon sells them with red

Yes. You probably grew up with a phone/tablet/laptop keyboard so you wouldn't know.

I'm in the UK so it will be more expensive if I was to order it from there

i mean amazon.co.uk
US amazon wouldn't have ISO boards anyway

No, no, no, yes, yes, yes, yes, oh fuck yea, ride it like a bronco

I've been using ISO keyboards for as long as 16 winters, would it be benefical to move to ANSI or to stay as I am?

I'm trying to find a a blank compact mechanical keyboard, hopefully without any function keys.

I tried looking about last night for something nice with blank keycaps but all i could find were the keyboards with function keys.

Am i going to have to buy blank keycaps or is there some website that does small mechanical keyboards with blank caps that i've not found yet?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Sure, i don't see a reason to use UK ISO anyway
special characters like £ and € are usable in US-INTL

Im using ISO now just for fun and it's not difficult to go back to either for me, but the larger left shift and wider enter key are nicer to use

Stick with ISO, it's been scientifically proven that it's more ergonomic than ANSI. Just google it.

Buy what a KBP V60 with gaterons and use this coupon code.

Then get some of these, or find cheaper ones.

banggood.com/PBT-87-Blank-White-Key-Caps-for-Cherry-MX-Keyboard-p-84084.html

I was figuring i had to buy the caps separate.

Do all of the V60's have red back light?

really? I can't seem to find it

>yrw you just spent $60 on a spacebar

I'm embarrassed for you.

Made my keyboard 50% more expensive.

Some do, some don't.
mechanicalkeyboards.com/shop/index.php?l=product_list&c=183&sortby=price:asc

It doesn't even look good. It looks like something a little kid made in art class, and then some chink stuck an ugly logo on it.

And you payed $60 for it.

I think it would look better in a DSA profile cap set or on a bulkier keyboard like an HHKB.

Just wait till I post that freaky looking C3PO keycap from massdrop.

I could have gotten it without the logo but then how will people know it's special? It's really smooth and shiny, probably a heat treated epoxy like polymer. They said the entire process takes like 36 hours and none of it is automated.

Okay sweet, I'm liking the olivette with the brown keys at the moment, there aren't any with a white base through which sorta sucks but white and grey will probably look nice anyway.

Thanks for the help, user

Are the Cherry ML keyboards good?

I'm gonna buy one of these for when I'm in the navy for the sweet sweet size

At least wipe your dandruff off of it.

same but for VE.A =[

>he has never had a set of abs caps that arent stock
hahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahaahahhahahaha

>tfw waiting for KUL ES-87 restock

Looks more like surface defects than dandruff.

>2hrs left
If you're interested in clears.
ebay.com/sch/m.html?_nkw=&_armrs=1&_ipg=&_from=&_ssn=elitekeyboards&_sop=1

Got this to complement my poker ii. Just 30$ in pooinloo country. Confirmed the switches are Cherry MX blue original. Really really nice for the price. May get 2-3 more. Sorry about the poor quality cam. My main phone ran out of juice.

that enter key almost as big as topre users' ego

>big ass enter key
>tiny backspace
for what purpose, is someone really that uncoordinated that they can't hit enter without it being half the size of the keyboard. And why the fuck is the backspace just a single key. WHY DOES THIS LAYOUT EXIST???

Because Panjeet engineering. Essentially they keyboards have been selling for decades and they didn't bother to change the layout while revamping it with the Cherry switches.

is varmilo a good brand

Think there may be anything decent available for prime day?

yeah

i might just buy a fullsized keyboard just cause it looks nicer
