>phenom x6 1090t not even overclocked
>4gb ddr3 1600mhz

>install a brand new R9 390
>run everything on ultra 1080p 60fps

when did you realize than upgrading is a meme?

A long time ago, that's why I don't spend my jewbucks on worthless hardeare.

cpu's are not too important for games, gpu's are.

>4gb ddr3 1600mhz
>run everything on ultra 1080p 60fps

No, you will not run everything.

As much as I love Thuban, that's BS famalam. Try playing Dark Souls III for example and you'll get horrible drops in many areas. I had my 1090T at 4GHz and even that wasn't close to enough. It was actually that which prompted an upgrade a few months ago.

They're still great CPUs in general though. Other games which use all six cores better ran great on ultra.

> thinking you need some 36 core xeon or opteron and 16 gigs of ram for gayming

Just upgrade your gpu every two or three years and the rest when they break or just stop werking

mogolico

but you installed brand new R9 390
that's upgrading user

>run everything on ultra 1080p 60fps

Fucking pleb 60 fps is enough hur dur
250 fps is the minimum.

i just recently upgraded my 8 year old amd phenom 955. it merly doubled in performance

maybe some shittly optimized games but im running the witcher 3 on ultra with post-processing on the higher settings and it runs smoothly

I have same but 8gb of 1300mhz ram
do I just need a new gfx card too?

Why so many fps? Movies look fine at 24fps and so games

>He doesnt upgrade his PC monthly
>He doesnt buy a new GPU every week
AMDpoors gonna poor

play quake with 30 or 60 fps and compare it to 250fps.

don't be that guy. If you play fps you want as much fps as possible to keep it smooth. but 40-60+ is enough for casual

What the fuck is ultra 1080p? Isn't it just 1080p?

>Movies look fine at 24fps
No, you're just used to them that way.

Years ago, I had a Sony TV that capped Frames to 24 and everything was stunning smooth 100% of the time.

Come to think of it, It probobly looked better then this 260 FPS meme

>I had a Sony TV that capped Frames to 24 and everything was stunning smooth 100% of the time.

Well playing non-action based games does that. Even a jump from 30 to 50 fps is noticeable, assuming said game/program supports it.

This. But seriously 60 is enough. Anything more is a meme.

>run everything on ultra 1080p 60fps

Is your mother aware you've been lying on the internet?

When I realized that 1080p is grim as fuck

I take it you've never seen/experienced a 144hz display.

>when did you realize than upgrading is a meme?
What is 'than upgrading'?

I have, just don't think it's anything special. Especially because I don't play fast paced games so there's absolutely no difference for me, I could even be on 30Hz and wouldn't mind.

Nice Grammer and spelling

I think it's a huge upgrade going from 60hz to 144hz. Personal preference I guess.

gta 5 will not run at 60fps on that cpu.

It is, but only if you're doing something which involves a lot of movement and precision. Nobody disagrees 120+ is better than 30-60, it's just that not everyone cares enough to upgrade.

>crazy processor
>average ram

ok dude

> have an older desktop
> radeon 7970
> CPU OC from 3.0 to 4.0 GHz
> 4 GB ram
> runs every game at max quality
I seriously don't see myself upgrading for any time soon

Ams still good with i7 2600?

I want to upgrade to a RX 480 4GB

This. Even cheap quad-cores get you 60+ in most games if you have a midrange gpu. People with more are chasing 4k,100+fps in crappy playstation ports.

I loved my old 7970 GPU but unfortunately I really do think that it's starting to show its obsolescence. You might wanna go with the new top tier AMD card like the RX 490 when and *if* they release it and kink out the issues

I have 1075T @ 3.6GHz and R9 380. Runs GTA V at high details with framerates varying from 55 up to 80fps with occasional drops to 48 fps in busy city areas. While it's not exactly amazing it's still pretty good for such an old hardware. Less CPU heavy games like Killing Floor 2 or new Unreal Tournament run maxed out at like 100fps and that's only cause my GPU can't push more frames than that.

I have faster CPU
but only ddr2 800mhz
and PCI-E 2.0 x16

should I upgrade my gpu too?

It still powers through battlefield 4 on ultra settings, although it's over clocked and over volted to its max. I'm trying to run it into the ground. The thing is that it's built like a tank and won't stop working.

get the fuck out of here

every single thing you do is smoother when you have a 120hz+ monitor, not just games

What CPU is faster than Thuban while still using DDR2 RAM.

I'm still playing at 1360x768

go ahead, call the mods

Everything on High or Ultra at 1080p and 60fps. DOOM on Ultra using vulkan goes over 100fps

>phenom 2 x4 died
>replace it with a 8320 because it was dirt cheap
>i3 is better for general use
>i5 obliterates it
literally selling my shit to some idiot and buying a i5 right now

>tfw fell for the m.2 meme

It runs hotter then an ssd and i dont see the difference in performance. M.2 is a waste of money unless you want it for a super compact build.

did you go intel?

he's a professional cs go player i guess

At least for fighting games, knowing exactly how many frames a move takes up, or knowing where to cancel an attack is really important. If your attack has a window of 4 frames where you can cancel it, its pretty important that the game is running at 60fps.

Still rocking a Phenom II X4 965 and a 7970 GHz-ed and 8GB DDR2 1066. I play GTA5 at decent frame rates and high-ish settings in 4k.

This machine is mostly from 2010, apart from upgraded CPU and GPU (started with Phenom X4 and 4870 back in the day) plus addition of an SSD.
When Zen comes out, I'll go about an upgrade of this machine, before that there's nothing really to gain for me.

I run the same A10 all 4 cores at 4.2ghz since they came out, 16 gb ram @ 2166, big difference

This, I have a 980ti in my rig and I barely get 45 fps on max settings because of my i5 4690k. Gw2 is a fucking cpu hog.

>have i5-2500 and r9 290 run everything at high 60 fps.
>smuganimegirls.jpg
>upgrade to 6700k, gtx 1070, 27" 2k monitor.
>so much better, realize I was deluding myself.

if you oc your glorious 1090 to 4.4ghz, you wont need to upgrade your cpu for another 2 years.

thinking that ram speed matters at all you fucking imbecile.

>>run everything on ultra 1080p 60fps

Show those 2015/2016 benchmarks fella, or do you play pre-2011 games only?

amd livestreaming communism right now

>oc your glorious 1090 to 4.4ghz

Not happening unless he's cooling the thing with LN2. They do around 4GHz at 1.5V, and that's the bleeding edge for air cooling. Some might get to 4.2 on water with more voltage (though many won't). None will get to 4.4 without extreme cooling. You might get it stable enough to run a benchmark or two, but not for day to day use.

You're looking at things entirely backwards. The Thubans do better in more modern games than they did pre-2011, because modern titles are a lot more multi-thread aware. A good example of this is the Witcher series. The first Witcher game runs like absolute fucking garbage even on a heavily-overclocked Phenom II, because it only uses one thread. It runs far, far worse than either of its sequels, despite them being much more demanding games.

not if you're using memedozer/piledriver trash CPUs or extremely old phenom ii/c2d era CPUs. anything newer than sandy vagina is pretty much perfect for gaymen tho.

No, games dont look OK at 24 fps. I can feel ot when it dips into the 40s

FX 8320 @ 4.0ghz has no issues keeping up m8. My HD 7870 is what limits me if anything.

>FX 8320 @ 4.0ghz has no issues keeping up m8.

It does. I recently upgraded from an 8320 @ 4.5ghz to a sandy vagina and saw a huge difference, at least in >muh gaymes. It's fine for everything else.

My FX 8300 at 4.4ghz run DOOM on high at well over 100fps with my Fury X using vulkan

could you share your BIOS settings? I tried OC once and 4.2 lasted about 5 minutes, 4.0 was barely stable

Nothing wrong with a placebo if it makes you happy.
Sugar pill me!

>dx9

A shitty slow paced wannabe combat sim that barely lives up to the old ghost recon or r6. The game is badly optimized, not to mention having badly designed control/aim accuracy where a slavest slav can make better.

Shitty MMO like all MMO that usually requires fast cpu because of vase amount of people playing.

Another dated MMO that only americans play exclusively for MMO. Nuff said blizzards pleb money maker V1.0.

GTA5 barely even have proper optimization and they even removed the euphoria physics. Its much worse than 4.

Crusader kings

I usually upgrade every 5 years or so, but I have no desire too. All modern games are shit and the performance difference per generation is not enough for me to dish out 1000$ for new parts.

I still have my 10 year old Core 2 Duo PC running Vista. The only upgrades I've given it are; 16 gigs of DDR2 ram(back when that shit went on sale), and a GTX750ti, so my kids could play their games on it(no minecraft fuck that autism inducing shit).

My current PC has an i5-2400(2500ks were out of stock and no resupply for months), 8 gigs ddr3 ram, and a gtx460. The only games I really play are old and dont need that much horsepower even at 1440p.

I was looking forward to getting a pair of rx460's one for each PC. But AMD fucked up by nerfing the chip to 896 stream processors. I was hoping for GTX960 performance, not a minor sidegrade of the GTX950. I might get an RX470 still not sure though.

Install new 390
"Upgrading is a meme"

You just upgraded for more frames you dingleberry

I never said an intel wouldnt be better. Just that fx 8 core is enough.

Where can I buy a RX 480

They're sold out everywhere

I have one I got on newegg but decided to get a new rig and get a 1070. Now I need to decide if I return it or sell it off somewhere.

Is it even possible to return opened stuff on newegg instead of replacements?

I'll give you three fiddy

Space Engineers

if you got a 480 and you really want to upgrade w8 for vega or 1080ti

I'm still on an old i7-920 rig with 16GB DDR3-1866. It handles most things I throw at it, but the GTX 285 is really holding me back in terms of 3d. I don't game much, but ill probably give in if for no other reason than this 285 is ancient and puts out more waste heat than an OC'd P4

Lmao I got mine running at 4.2 GHZ with premade watercooling.

What's the best alternative to the RX 480 for $75-200? I'm trying to get a video card as soon as possible but the RX 480 isn't being sold anywhere (that I'm aware of) for $200 currently. Used or New is fine.

how much better do you think an i7 6700k is compared to an i5 4690k? or perhaps 4690k vs 4790k?

This.

Unless your playing a game with extremely shit optimization

like gta v, crysis 3, rise of the tomb raider

most games run like sex on the 390x or 480 oc with a modest quad core i5 or better dx12 vulkan i get 60-150fps+ and dx11 around 60-120fps+ on most games 1080p with a i5 4690 4ghz

>6 cores
