GNU/Linux does not protect your freedom as a user or developer, BSD does.
GNU/Linux does not make developers rich, BSD does
GNU/Linux does not let you own your work, BSD does
Play with (((Stallman's))) marxist software all you want, when you're ready for a truly free desktop: BSD is waiting.

Saying you need the source code for the four freedoms is like saying you need a car to have freedom of movement
The GPL should have merely negated IP law and made software, including compiled binaries, a form of protected public domain. No copyright bullshit being used to control people (give us your souuuurce), copyright bullshit being used to truly prevent people from being controlled.
Joshua Kelly
Pfft. Sure BSD help developers rich. The selected one, that is.

if I want to make money off some software, I'll hide the source
if I don't want to make money off some software, and I want to give out the source, then I don't want someone stealing it and making money without paying me. so I'll use GPL v2.
Ryder Wood
>The library is open sourced under BSD, but it comes with an added patent clause that you should be aware of. >with an added patent clause that you should be aware of. so NOT a BSD license then
good
Parker Wood
Patent grant and copyright license are different thing. With BSD license, you can do implicit patent grant.

There are two kinds of people who attack the GPL.
1. Companies assblasted that they can't cuck people with GPL code. 2. People who have been cucked by non-GPL code but want to defend themselves.
Julian Brown
>BSD >code for free, corporate will easily steal your work >GPL >code for free, makes it hard for corporate to steal your work (although there are ways around it)

Libertarianism is simply anarchism for the middle class.

"I sure am glad I have a license that forces me to share my work with everyone for free!" ~ No one

It's called a cuck license because someone can take your code, close it off and profit from it without you gaining anything, my cognitively impaired friend
Christopher Adams
>someone could steal my wife/code, better just GIVE it away!
Ohh okay, that's not the textbook definition of cuckoldry at all
Asher Lee
The original developer could profit from their code too though. If the original dev doesn't have the initiative to profit off of their code why is that anyone else's fault?
Jason Wilson
The entire purpose of GPL is to be a license for open source projects, moron. It literally dictates that modifications to the source code must be contributed back, something which BSD most certainly does not. If I want to monetize a project based on software sales why on earth would I use either of these licenses?
Jaxson Green
Free software and BSD devs tend to view their software as a public service. BSD devs provide their software under a "non-viral" license so anyone can make use of it in the hopes that it improves the lives of everyone. Free software devs believe the same things but they believe their software should also be used as leverage to force developers of proprietary software to open source their software. The two camps have a fundamental disagreement about whether proprietary software should be allowed to exist or not.
