Itt who fell first the think pad meme?

Itt who fell first the think pad meme?

Did you mean for?

Yea..... fuck!

Well in that case *raises paw* I did! *clears throat* I fell for the T420 specifically *walks away*

I have a couple of Thinkpads from even before I started pushing the meme on Sup Forums.
But technology has evolved so fast you're better of buying a modern lightweight notebook with 14 nm Celeron than some old Thinkpad.

Even in irony, this kind of shit is beyond annoying.

>fell for ThinkPad meme
>bought second hand X1 Carbon for 1/3 retail price
>i7 5600U, 8GB RAM, 256GB, 1440p + touch
>perfect condition

I can't use anything but ThinkPads now as everything else is woeful.

How much did you pay for it?

I fell for a T410 and X220.
This X220 is a pure joy.

>better of buying a modern lightweight notebook with 14nm Celeron
>Acer Plasticspire ES1

I deal with these laptops daily. They are really the fucking cancer of the industry. Adhorrent keyboards, worst fucking construction in the history of laptops, combi touchpad that sends the cursor floating miles off in every fucking direction you try to move it and the worst BIOS in existence.

7000NOK ($829), current retail price for the model is 18000NOK+ ($2100).

Buying t420 this Friday. No more than 160 USD. I will later upgrade screen, first to 1600x900, then 1080, hybrid ssd/hdd, ram, Quad core CPU to bring into John Oliver's 2015, and of course perform an exorcism to remove Windows taint and install Mint as my first linux distro.

I went to Mediamarkt the largest retail store in Europe looking for an 11 inch notebook and the Acer ES1 - 131 definitely had the best build quality out of all the notebooks they had on display and was priced very reasonably. The bios is fine. I had no problems whatsoever to install a different operating system. Booting from USB or SD is also supported unlike with many competitors. The Acer has a much better keyboard and build quality than the HP Steam 11 etc. And the trackpad is what you would expect from a low end notebook.

i love my T420

12 gb ram
2 ssd's
1600x900
nvdia which i dont use

>have shit lenovo G50-80
>say I'm never going to buy lenovo again
>find Sup Forums and /tpg/
>decide to try a thinkpad despite lelnovo
>find a midspec t430 on craigslist
>its sold but the guy has a well spec'd t420 for $15 more
>meet guy at burger king 2 days later
>near mint, good battery, $175.
>buy it
>love it

>today
>buy a x61t for keks

Might start collecting or something i guess.

How the heck to you update resolution?

You just buy a new monitor which is compatible with your Thinkpad.

Oh you mean like an actual seperate monitor then.Thought ya meant changing the screen or something

no, thats what he meant. iirc there is no 1080p mod for the t420 though.

You have to replace the screen with a higher resolution and usually the HD/ HD+ cable as well. 1366x768 to 1600x900 isn't too dificult, but the 1080p FHD is a tricky one.

I have a t420 and an x1 hybrid.

you download it. i did it for my ram and it worked fine.

Yeah I'm goood with 1600x900

x1 carbon isnt really a thinkpad

yri
>you recalled incorrectly

Fell for the t410 in 2013, recently got myself a yoga 11e, happy so far.

I've seen it done. It is difficult though, so people get screen flicker and other issues. There isn't a reliable mod kit to buy, no.

Don't forget to download your quad core cpu as well.

I'm buying one with low res just for the lulz of upgrading it.

I love my x220 IPS panel

Bad ass laptop for $150. Tossed in a SSD and its a fast as I would ever need a laptop.

E550 here

not a real thinkpad.

*tilts head and looks at you confused* I wasn't being ironic

ur not real fagt

I wish i wasnt real.

...

But it clearly says Thinkpad on it blind nigger

I bought an X200 because muh libreboot, waiting for it to pass the customs.

Choose it for my cousin
the FHD version should be cheaper
keyboard is awesome, touchpad is great, build quality is decent

T440s w/ FHD IPS and 12G of ram.

It
is
perfect.

I would love to have a classic Doom or Quake LAN party.

Where are you getting the i7?
Also how much is that going to cost you overall?

Only a few more days.

This is my vacation every year. Join us

I was thinking the i7-2670QM
, from Intel. It will cost more than the laptop itself (160) chip (180-280)

Overall upgrades? Idk. Probably $800 Overall. But you can't quantify the knowledge/skills/sentimental value that brings.

Right click the desktop -> Display Settings etc...

Mine works great x201 compact durable and cost effective, how's yours?

Me.

T460p.
Love it.

Imagine if you'd bought a proper Thinkpad.

I could never go back to an X1.

if you use a thinkpad, hp elitebook or dell latitude laptop your opinion of Acer will change, dramatically.

maybe it's missing out on things like a magnesium rollcage or the nice square design and sturdiness of older models, but ThinkPads and other enterprise machines are still GOAT for basic things like the pointing stick and two sets of mouse buttons

(not him btw, and my newest ThinkPads are an X220T and T420)

the resolution is the least of your concerns with the T420. The screen looks like ass. Even for a TN.

>technology has evolved so fast

CPU speeds have been at a near stand-still for the past 7 years or so.
Moore's law is dead.

>The screen looks like ass. Even for a TN.

Can confirm.

The trackpad is also utter shit btw, but no problem if you use the trackpoint instead.

The X1 is all about "muh thin".

It does a great job at being an Apple McAir competitor, but it's not in the same category as the "real" business orientated Thinkpads.

Thinness is probably the last thing people who buy "real" Thinkpads care about.
Hell, I would love if my T460p was a little thicker just better cooling.

>as the "real" business-oriented Thinkpads
"Oriented" means facing a certain way - naturally.
"Orientated" means being made to face a certain way - not the way it naturally faces.
EG - I am straight-oriented.
You are straight-orientated - against your will.

Most thinkpad screens look like ass.

On the new model line, it's only a select few that have a FHD 300-nit screen.

It's sad, because the rest of the T,X, and even TPYoga machines are really quite nice.

is the x240 any gud?

If you're upgrading, get an X1 Carbon panel, it's still 1600x900 but has way better viewing angles

What is the best thinkpad overall for everything.

$1000 for a modern thinbook is not better off than an X220 for $200

What is the best rock-paper-scissor formation overall for everything?

Thanks for the help smartass.

get the x250. I have the x240 and i love it, but the thinkpad keys are better

>paw

Other than the piece of shit touchpad, my t440s is great.

Maxed out x250 with Linux. I'm happy I have it

Put an T450 trackpad in it then

Yes, this is a simple mod. Remember to get an HD+ cable as opposed to the HD cable in there. I just wanna see the asshurtmacfags talk shit about "oh le old business laptop, bad tn screen" and hit those bitches with quad core and 1080p screen! What now bitches?

Just bought an X220 yesterday. So far it's pretty good minus all the bloatware it comes with.

>not immediately doing a fresh install

Haven't had time to unfortunately.
