Sup Forums, I'm about to move to another country and I want to take all my data with me (2 Tera+). Will airport security give me any shit by having multiple HDs inside my carryons?

>america

No

Yes. Absolutely.
>have two 1TB drives
>go through security
>get questioned about the drives
>they confiscate them and clone them
>get drives back
>feel raped
>mfw

If American airport security is like movies shows it, then yes

Oh fuck, im entering us soon with a 1TB harddrive
Ami fucked? Theres 700gb of japanese porn and a pirated dark soul3 in it

They have this thing called the Internet. Put your data there.

why don't you just encrypt it all?

alternatively you could upload encrypted archives to a cloud provider

there's not going to be any painless options if your security is important to you

>go to America
>about to leave airport
>"Whoa there buddy, where do you think you're going?"
>it's the NSA
>they force me to hand over my laptop
>opens it up, turns it on, they start laughing at me
>"Aren't you a little too old to be watching cartoons?"
>they already saw my wallpaper
>"We'll have to take this out back to remove the hard drive and make a clone, if you don't mind."
>O-Okay
>wait there for 45 minutes while the data is copying and I'm free to go

Last time I tried to take hard drives through carryon it ended with threats of a rectal exam. Just mail them.

This, or just buy drives there and transfer it over the internet

Are you white? I had a laptop with a dead battery and they had to plug it in, then got to the stage where it dual-booted to Linux and Windows. I started giving them an explanation of what they were seeing and they basically just gave up and gave my computer back.

Socially-aware Autist wins again.

please be joking

pro tip, he's not

if you mail them (or put them in checked baggage for that matter) you'll never know what they've been through in transit

Just encrypt them beforehand.

i think you can buy 256gb micro sds now....

upload to usenet, dban drives and download on arrival

One would think that if some authority were to parooze through your files and found encrypted stuff, you'd be in deeper shit than if they just found your porn stash

Use the cloud senpai.

>crossing borders with multiple encrypted hard drives on you
That's a one way ticket to Guantanamo

There's literally no (0, zero) reason not to have at least a basic encryption for your HDs if you plan on going through a modern airport, especially after everything that happened in the last 5 or so years.

so all business people going back and forth from 'merica are having their whole laptops cloned? How is everyone (rich businessfags with industry secrets ) not enraged

>they get your data AND bust you for counterfeiting

They don't do it with everyone, just weird looking NEETs such as OP

encrypting the drive doesn't stop tampering of the firmware

>not encrypting

it's a real hollow coin, not counterfeit

This. I had to downgrade my firmwares on drives I mailed because the NSA tried to put a backdoor in it

Pretty sure airport security is not gonna give a fuck about a single HDD. But if you're still worried about it, you could just encrypt everything and not tell them the password. Or if you're super paranoid, create a hidden volume so you can show them something boring while still hiding your stuff.

Unless US currency complies to GPL, it's still their EULA and constitutes as counterfeiting, which is a felony and would land you in prison

Just desolder the connectors and hide them.
Tell them they are busted and you love to carry around worthless junk all the damn time.

Email yourself everything

>parooze

You can't be serious?

>All your data on $0.40

tfw obama almost sent me to guantanamo but I gave them the encryption key

now they know all the hentai sites i browse. fuck.

How is anyone going to find out though?

Always encrypt user.
I know a guy who got fucked over by the police and they took all of his hdds.
Luckily all encrypted and they try to decrypt it since 8 months and Put about 40000€ Into it on investigation costs.

Torrent a few Blockbuster and music, get fucked harder than a child rapist.
Welcome to germoney

Because of this post I just found out that's not how it's spelled, thanks

OP here.

Uploading everything isn't really viable. I have too much stuff, I don't know any services that can do 2 Tera + for reasonable prices and my upload speed is shit. Plus I don't feel comfortable sharing all my personal data to an online service, even if encrypted.

I didn't mention it at first but I'm not leaving America nor arriving in it so I guess it won't be as strict as you people are saying it will.

>700gb jav porn
Nobody will bat an eye
>pirated ds3
Yer fucked

Also why pirate ds3.
When you inevitably cop out money for the steam version with no bugs/dlc coming up, yourself files won't carry over.
I pirated it on release day and bought it during the summer sale. It wrote over 2 lol 120 characters

well it's pretty hard to say without knowing the countries

but if it's a police state like UK or certain other western europe countries then it's probably still the same

Encrypt them and put hidden volumes, keep in the fake one some personal infos like bank stuff ect.
easy and simple

give the drives to a friend and get him to host it over SFTP, then download it from the destination

If the upload speed isn't an issue for someone, try Backblaze.

No, I regularly carry a few 3.5" drives with foam packaging in my carry on's and checked baggage (rarely for checked because obvious reasons).

TSA can't even catch actual weapons during inspection, they're not going to worry about a basic hard drive.

You habe to be completeley retarded to torrent Blockbusters in germany

You have to be completely retarded to torrent without a VPN pretty much anywhere in the western world.

Yeah.
I can smash the head of another human in till he is a potato and get 6months probation.
Torrenting will get my ass in jail till my Kids are adult.

>This. I had to downgrade my firmwares on drives I mailed because the NSA tried to put a backdoor in it

come on

do they bust people for CP when they find it if you are going overseas?

they must overlook it or you would hear about busts every day

>they must overlook it or you would hear about busts every day

Or y'know, those who have CP aren't so many, know that it's illegal almost everywhere and they encrypt it by default.

What about Scotland? I'm moving there in some months and I want to know if they're this stalinist.

Make a hidden drive and a non-hidden one. If they ask you to show them what's on it (never happened to me, but supposedly can happen), you just open the non-hidden one. Hidden drives don't stand up to forensics of course, but the people who work at airports/borders are one step above burger flippers in intelligence.

Just make sure you fill the non-hidden one with obviously legal content (I just take a bunch of pictures/videos of stuff with my phone).

Lel, if you say so

I'm still waiting for one of those ISP letters.
And for the record, I'm from a country where we had to pay the disc label lobby a fee for every digital storage medium.

yes, since magnesium explodes

Like seriously?

Is the pirated version bad?

>2016
>not encrypting your data and storing it in the cloud

like wtf???

If you are really worried about it just ship them.

If you're american, No, you can do whatever you want and no one can stop you. [spoilers]cause burguerlanders are mentaly handicaped so everyone let they do its autistic stuff

I am British and often travel with my electronics. I have never ever had to hand any of them over for copying or anything. Surely this doesn't really happen in america, you guys are just memeing it up, like penis inspection day, right? You don't actually allow airport security access to your devices? The worst I've had was some woman swabbed my laptop and my hands for explosives and then a dog sniffed my suitcase. Fortunately my weed was in my ass.

Why on earth would they care about your hard drives? Do you live in some shitty police state where everyone is a potential spy?

of course it doesnt happen you dip

>been using bitorrent since 2002 when shitty python program was all there was
>be there for the start of suprnova and tpb.
>15 years later
>no C&D
>no settlment lawsuit

Play smart kiddos

You do realise companies like Google literally mail harddrives around the world because it's faster than to send a copy through the internet. If the NSA, or whatever, could clone the terrabytes of data passing through the mail each day without delaying it, then we're already fucked and there's no point hiding from them.

That looks dangerous

There is literally NO REASON for them to do anything to you. HDs aren't illegal.

Unless you are selected for a random search, I heard American airport security does this a lot.

If you have a thinkpad t or w series you can get a hdd adapter for the cd drive slot, put your data on the secondary drive and then disable it in the bios. Just run an os on main drive so it looks legit. Would probably work

wait what does 2 tera+ mean?

You mail the drives OP, in retail packaging, along with other items. If you have a lot to ship, take some space on a container ship and have it transported that way.

You never take them on your person.

I took two 2TB HDD and one 128GB SSD to Japan and neither New Zealand nor Japanese customs gave a shit.
Mind you the Japanese customs just waved me through and didn't bother to check anything.

If you enter Canada with any HDD, flash drives, laptops, etc. They will be searched. They will not clone your drives and do not give a shit what is on there as long as it is legal. Torrented movies will not cause trouble, they only care about CP and related illegal stuff, porn is hit and miss as some different types of porn are illegal depending on the province you are entering. Also for you furries out there, if you have any anthropomorphic porn on your computer, you WILL get hassled and CBSA will scare the shit out of you, but it is NOT illegal and you will be allowed to enter...but you will be watched.

>mid orgasm
>cross a street without looking
>get hit by a car
More busy millennials need to get these.

Well good to know. The country I'm actually migrating to is Japan.

Easier to mail it user.

The Postal Service does not give two flying fucks, and they already compete with the NSA over autonomy bullshit. Your data is safe just through pure spite of the mailman.

Why do you think people successfully mail drugs and body parts through the postal system all the time? The postal service literally hates every other agency and will do anything to keep the mail moving so they stay relaxant and keep funding.

if anyone believes anything posted itt they are retarded

Get a cheap laptop that takes these hard drive caddies. Put windows on the primary HDD/SSD and set the laptop to automatically boot from that. Put LUKS encrypted Linux on the caddy drive, and put your torrented movies in that. They won't suspect a thing.

BS.

Prove it.

shes cute

fricking weebs

Maybe if you're not Canadian. When I came back to Canada for a trip last year, all they did was open my laptop bag and inspect it. Didn't open it or turn it on. They did run my duty free whisky through some machine, though.

U funny

Yes

What about Japanese comics that are frowned upon?

She looks cute.

user she's black

10 years of torrenting shit and nothing has happened to me. Come to burgerland.

>Luckily all encrypted and they try to decrypt it since 8 months and Put about 40000€ Into it on investigation costs.

How would you even know this?

>penis inspection day
don't you dare make fun of one of the most valued traditions

If they find it of course they are gonna bust you for CP. But they are not going to go through every electronic data storage device to search for it

i used to mail my hdds via mail
but then i found out that firmwares changed

kek, no. Only in the retarded countries like Western Turkey and New Curryland.

Stay in Syria Abdul

We don't want you here

nigga's kawaii

Bunch of trolls in this thread

I'm an American. I regularly fly between the US mainland and Hawaii, going though customs checkpoints each time so they can search for people smuggling biological materials. No one has ever accosted me about any electronics I was carrying. The worst that's ever happened is they opened up my laptop to do a swab test in case I was hiding something inside it.

Any airport is going to have so much volume of people flowing through it that it would be impossible to search the data of everyone. Maybe if you're carrying an entire bag full of dozens of hard drives, or you're a fag in a trenchcoat acting suspicious, then they'll pull you aside and search your data. But as long as you're polite and don't look like a criminal then you won't be bothered. I can assure you that whatever TSA agent is dealing with you has another 20 people to search behind you and absolutely does not care about your MLP porn.

what the fuck

Insane. I just think its impossible to get 6 months for killing somebody.
