Is PC-BSD well documented? Can I use it like I can use Ubuntu?

I mean for using daily tasks, ubuntu makes it easy. Like enabling dnscrypt:
#Install the dnscrypt package
sudo add-apt-repository pa:anton+/dnscrypt && sudo apt update && sudo apt install dnscrypt-proxy;
#Change your DNS server to 127.0.0.2 from your network manager
#Restart Network Manager
sudo systemctl restart NetworkManager
#done

Just switch to Linux already

Improve your shitposting

Not an argument.

Stop shitposting

I already switched from Linux though.

it's pretty much as well documented as freebsd since it's literally just freebsd with a DE on top

neither was your post

FreeBSD's Handbook is actually GoAT. If you want to learn Unix that is translatable to any other unix like OS, read it.

Linux is shit due to poor design choices, and lower quality developers, and has been from the onset.

FreeBSD is winning the long game

Is there any way to read the mailing list digests in a non-redundant fashion?

Picking a fight with Linux will only make people laugh, user. Linux, at this point is trying to be an alternative to windows while BSD is struggling with servers.

BSD is more secure, so I want PC-BSD and their ports to improve

pkg install dnscrypt

or

cd /usr/ports/dnscrypt/
make install clean

I love those comics

Let's see how it goes

Is it normal to get stuck here for a while?

are you fetching from a server or the CD itself?

in any case, base is pretty big so it can take a while

server

then that's probably why

i assume the freebsd servers are really crowded

>freebsdnews.com
thanks for the links, op

glad to see this thread is back

have you been able to download the source code for the HEAD (11.0-CURRENT)?

can't say, i use openbsd which never really gave me any server problems

are you talking through CVS? CVS servers seem to be generally stable

I always get TimeOuts of my SSD in my MacBook Air 2013 when i want to install FreeBSD. Doesnt matter which Flash Drive. The SSD is also fine. Works in MacOS, Debian or OpenBSD without a problem. So i guess, its a driver problem? How can i fix this problem?

You shold drop a message on the mailing list with your exact specs from a dmesg.

Ok, will do so. Thanks!

Also goes without saying, but make sure to also actually specify the problem.

A good subject line helps.

Just reading up FreeBSD documentation online, the wiki is actually very good and easy to use.

The one thing I don't like about it though is lack of virtualization support. What's the best that FreeBSD can offer?

Bhyve?

Jails are different, but they count, I guess.

Can't see instructions for setting up windows. I do want me some GPU passthrough for photoshop

>Linux, at this point is trying to be an alternative to windows

Citation needed.

How do I sort mirrors by speed or country. It's painfully slow

Mirrors for what?

scroll down

Has anyone gotten a BSD on a Raspberry Pi with a working GUI, and if so which BSD and how did you do it?

Repository mirrors.
#pkg install gnome3 is taking forever
However things download much quicker while #cd /usr/ports/x11/gnome3/ && make install clean

FreeBSD or OpenBSD for desktop, i want to try it on a VM

not a bsd greybeard, just have played around with them a bit.

FreeBSD have more packages and a better package manager in my opinion, OpenBSD was the only one that just werked with my shittops wireless card. I also found OpenBSDs installer to be somewhat better than FreeBSDs, but they were both simple enough. FreeBSD have zfs and jails.

I don't use any of them as a daily driver, mostly because i'm far more familliar with ganoo lennux

Depends on what you want.
OpenBSD with gnome doesn't work in a VM, I'm not certain about FreeBSD.

I use OpenBSD as daily on my laptop.

>Repository mirrors.
We're talking about multiple operating systems here.

>a better package manager in my opinion
What makes you say that?

I'm not saying you're wrong, OpenBSD's package manager is very basic.

Does anyone know if you can put *BSD on chromebooks like the acer720?
Its not ARM

pkgin is the best

I just wish wlan support would be as good in NetBSD as it is in OpenBSD

Enjoy your FBI backdoor in openbsd fag.
