Should I buy a repeater pocketwatch?

...

omg look, this man has a luxury watch submerged underwater.

is he insane ?

Was thinking about getting a Seiko Turtle (gold)

did submariners aboard cold war missile subs wear or carry watches?

...

That's only a tudor

Tudor btfo

Will they ever recover?

...

>12hr

Thoughts?

That's still a tool watch and a diver at that. Your point?
No one would dive with, let's say, a sub with diamonds on the bezel.

poorfag cunt that can't afford a dive computer

For me the SRP773 is the best looking new Turtle.

Still wayy too expensive

Are you selling? I want to buy it, pictures look OK to me if the price is OK

Overpriced and ugly AF

Orient mako usa 2 instead

Provably

What's mecha quartz?

Quartz chronograph made by Seiko, popular in microbrands and kickstarter. High beat central chronograph second hand and mechanical-like spring-back chronograph reset.

Are they worth the money?

What about this ?

autodromo.com/watches/prototipo-chronograph-white-dial/

I'm quite disappointed at the quality of these "cheaper" (still $29) Hirsch straps' quality, fäm. I've only worn this one about twice a week for 2 months, and it already looks quite beat up. Stick with Fluco at this price range, or go for their $45+ offerings.

It's almost impossible to find a proper Swiss mechanical chronograph new for

Btw, if you're not dead set on the autodromo but want something with the same movement, look for any Seiko watch with a 6T63 movement, which is what the VK64 is derived from.

The autodromo is expensive for what it is. Another cheaper vk64 alternative is made by helgray (Silverstone/Silverstein/something). Often available used.

Autodromo is a little overpriced. If you want a racing inspired meca-quartz chronograph you can get a Stuckx Bull or Moto Koure MKI for a couple hundred bucks cheaper.

>ugly AF

Pillow cases are too good for you.

Comparison of beat rates:
> 2.5 Hz Columbus Watch movement pocketwatch from the 1880s
> 1Hz Swiss Ronda quartz in Carnival T3 watch
> 4Hz ETA 2824 in Baume & Mercier
> 3Hz Seiko 7S26
> Sweep 4Hz Seiko 5S-21 with dampener
> 360Hz Accutron

The SSB series that has them are only around $100, great watches. I have this one and I'd like to pick up an SSB025 at some point too.

Closeup of escape wheel and jewel in ETA 2824 in Baume & Mercier

Closeup of sweep in Seiko 5S21

Yeah, mostly Seikos.

My man! I would go for the 777 myself, because i find gold on watches to be tacky as gypsy ass.

You stupid motherfucker, you.

here's my haul from today. 4 catalogues and a blancpain publication of unknown content.

any requests before I start flicking through and dumping what looks neat? which should I start wit, pictured are all the brands I visited today, less Cartier

when the post fails, so you reload and paste your post, but forget to select an image

I have an Omega Speedmaster but I want a watch that is cheaper, which I can use daily without worrying about how expensive it is.

Would prefer it to be automatic, around $100-$150.

Is Sturhling a good brand?

Can we get a close up of that mysterious object? It interests me greatly.

your speedmaster is a beater. but if you need another one, go for Seiko or Orient in that price range.

I am joking but lawyeranon and many others do use speedmasters as everyday beaters

>Is Sturhling a good brand?
No, it's Chink shit. Stick with a Seiko 5 or maybe a Vostok Amphibia.

looks to be a dry scrap of cum tissue

Oh yeah, my Speedmaster has seen its fair share of use. However, it's ?/500 limited edition, so I want to keep it somewhat nice, and I've been worrying more and more when using it frequently

That's what I was afraid of. I had been looking at this watch, seemed promising enough. Does seiko make good automatics? Looking for something a tad less understated, something with a leather band maybe.

if you up your budget a little, you could go for a nice SARB. They are simple 3 hands with dates, in a sporty case that is suitable for dress as well.

the Seiko 5 can be had for 150 and under but it lacks features such as hand winding or hacking, and they are diverse and mostly come on cheap bracelets or nylon bands

I started with Blancpain. let's start with something simple. at least simple looking.

I love small seconds

...

sorry I've got a bad hammer and worse light. here's some rotor porn

bad camera, even worse than a hammer

here's a seashell rotor

Real talk, what the lowest price do you guys think this will fall too?
There's now way in hell I'm going to pay SARB money for a 4R movement. Will it ever fall to like 250?

I bought pic related for like 12 bucks.
Lets see if 'murrica made is better than chink made.

What happened to the user that was supposed to post HD pics of her legendary inherited vintage collection?

titanium art dials

>Will it ever fall to like 250?

Eventually yeah but you definitely won't see that price this year. Well maybe like a Black Friday deal or something but that definitely won't be the regular price everywhere for some time.

why can't I hold all these tourbillon

I would have also accepted: You double tourbillon.

Darn
It sucks that they discontinued the monster too
What the fuck is Seiko doing?

Squale 1521?

doggu

But a Tudor is better and more accurate than most Grand Seikos.

ANY watch with a engraved logo on the side of the case like that is utter dog shit. I don't give a fuck if it's a patek
Kill yourself

The truth hurts huh?

Seiko has quite a history of discontinuing great watches.

Luckily i nabbed one before they were completely gone.

shittu

Squale factory tour if you are interested:

yes...yes....
very good job...
yes...

Is this the case of a decent watch ruined by TGV/Archie? I don't see anything particularly wrong with it, at that price point. It's not even an homage to anything.

I would be all over the 3rd gen monster because it's better in everyway technically, but they got rid of the fang indices (basically the fucking namesake of the watch) and gave it a cyclops that had no reason to be there
Also the retarded price
What the actual fuck Seiko?

You're forgetting they added a 6R15 movement. But yeah, the cyclops on the crystal was a really retarded idea.

I waited a bit for my 2nd gen, but you can still easily score a 2nd gen or a 2,5 gen one if you lurk around.

I know about the movement upgrade.
Isn't the monster 4 more expensive/same price as the sumo?

The Tudor in-house standard isn't publicly defined as far as I know. How many positions and temperatures is it adjusted in? Not sure, it could be the typical 5 position Swiss standard or the more Japanese style testing with 6 positions?

Ablogtowatch says tudor claimed -2+4 for the Pelagos (MT5612). Forbes has said quoted Davide Cerrato saying its +-3. Neither have commented on positions adjusted to or anything else really.

On the movement pages of their website they claim COSC but not better. Same with the pages of watches that use their movement. And their watches don't say they are superlative chronometers like Rolex. If it makes sense for Rolex to advertise their better than cosc accuracy, why wouldn't Tudor?

But regardless. Your basic GS mechanical is -3+5 per day adjusted to 6 positions, -2+4 per day for the mechanical special, +-15 per month for all spring drives, and +-10 seconds per year for quartz. Meaning the Tudor movements are more accurate than some GS mechanicals... maybe.

So
>a Tudor is better and more accurate than most Grand Seikos.
They're certainly not better, and I'm really surprised to hear someone thinks they're more accurate than a line that produces mostly highly accurate, thermocompensated quartz movements as their most sold models.

Where do you faggots get your watch news from? I'm not going to watch some fat aussie or weird looking guido

Same price.

But with the ugly insert design on the sumo the Gen 4 looks like a better option.

Archie is fantastic, but he's not really news.

People read the blogs and youtube channels of places like hodinkee and blogtowatch.

thewatchestv is actually a really good youtube channel.

Other than that, shit on forums like timezone and WUS.

And the news and announcement sections of any manufacturer you like also work.

annual calender with second time zone, interestingly done.

I think I'm going to bed though, I will dump JLC tomorrow night unless anyone prefers rolex, Grand Seiko, or more Blancpain

Just get a used chrono.

>Does seiko make good automatics?
Just go buy another Omega.

I was here last night but went to bed before I got a response so I'll ask again.
Could anyone recommend me a decent mechanical dress watch somewhere in the $500-1000 price range?

Hi there!

You seem to have made a bit of a mistake in your post. Luckily, the users of Sup Forums are always willing to help you clear this problem right up! You appear to have used a tripcode when posting, but your identity has nothing at all to do with the conversation! Whoops! You should always remember to stop using your tripcode when the thread it was used for is gone, unless another one is started! Posting with a tripcode when it isn't necessary is poor form. You should always try to post anonymously, unless your identity is absolutely vital to the post that you're making!

Now, there's no need to thank me - I'm just doing my bit to help you get used to the anonymous image-board culture!

Are Meca Quartz watches looked down upon ?

I was reading more about them and the concept seems really cool, ingenious even.

So why are they so much cheaper than pure mechanical watches?

...

>So why are they so much cheaper than pure mechanical watches?

The base movement is quartz, which saves costs, while the ingenious part is the chronograph layer that is pseudo-mechanical/mechanical.

Full mechanical chronographs are complicate things to boot.

>And their watches don't say they are superlative chronometers

It could just be marketing or design ?

High accuracy Seikos don't say superlative chronometer either, no?

Also sounds like you're being rather harsh on Tudor. In terms of bang for your buck they are top tier for a European watch.

They could easily be charging 50% more for it due to their comparative quality to more famous brands.

more famous brandds that own them and dictate the price per se?

Yes, but my point is that their watches are legitimately comparable to Rolex. Not quite there. But if Omega can charge $11k for some of their watches, then Tudors prices suddenly seem like a good deal.

And in the grey market they are priced reasonably. Tudors can be found at just over $2k, brand new.

>They could easily be charging 50% more for it due to their comparative quality to more famous brands.
But then they would be Rolex.

>High accuracy Seikos don't say superlative chronometer either, no?
Chronometer is a legal term that refers to certified by COSC (depending if that's a law in your country.) So while the grand seiko standard exceeds COSC, that doesn't mean they can legally call it a chronometer. But Rolex gets that certification, (chronometer) and then exceeds it (superlative.) If it's marketing to not fully claim the accuracy of the Tudor movements, it's because they're not that great or they want to reserve that sort of marketing praise on their main Rolex line. Which is certainly possible.

>Also sounds like you're being rather harsh on Tudor.
I don't think I said anything particularly harsh. I mentioned some basic things without necessarily pushing any hard conclusions about their possible accuracy figures. The only thing I really said is that they're not better or more accurate than most GS. This is something one could debate or disagree with, but not something one would consider harsh.

Where should I go to get a decently good fake Rolex?

You can't.

Just buy an Orient Ray instead.

As I said before, save up $500 and do your own research. It's extremely doubtfully worth it though - you could get something more interesting or higher bang per buck than a rep subC with rep movement for that price though.

about to buy a casio F91W-1, love that classic old school look, what am I in for?

Schlomo friend, do you know about IDF security cords? Apparently your paras have them.

Fucking useless backlight.
Get a f105w instead.
t. f91w owner

Now that is nice

Unsure.

The only thing i do know is that paratroopers (And pretty much most combat units), like to steal the aiguillettes, infamous white caps, shoulder patches, and beret's from MP's and cut them up for lining and or decor. Personally i got quite a few friends who have stolen MP's berets and one that with an Aiguillette.

Those white caps are elusive and hard to get though.

Also that is a pretty 62MAS.

Why do people like modern Seiko?
