why must there even be cores?

I say how many can you use??

More the merrier

For home users?
When the TDP of the higher core count requires that you lower clock rates significantly.
So 6 cores.

5820k is rated as 140tdp but in reality it can hit 3.8GHz before reaching it's listed TDP. I have mine at 4.4GHz though, which can pull ~180-200w

this
it's why the i7 6700k is still has the best IPC and is best for gaymen

he never said that, nigger

That's why it doesn't beat an i5 in any gaming benchmark and often performs slightly right?

only in some games because hyperthreading, turn it off and it's literally just a higher binned i5.

About tree fiddy

all computer resources spend the vast majority of their time unused

*unless you're on a server, a renderfarm or mining buttcoins

games and photo/audio productivity: 4
video editing, virtualization and high-end productivity: 6~8
after Effects, 3D rendering and server use: go crazy

what you need: SIMD registers
what you get: more cores

I wish children would stop taking this quote out of context or even thinking it applies to modern technology

640k wasn't even enough for anything at the time, it was nothing like now where you can go out and buy as much goddamn RAM as you want and it will be able to hold more than any home user would ever comprehend to throw at it with current use cases the way they are

this as 1280000 cores

>still sprouting that bullshit quote
Freetards, sirs.

More cores can only help so much. If what your program is doing can't be heavily parallelized, you won't see much benefit from more cores.
Okay, now render some 4K video and show me your CPU usage.

Over 6 is overkill for home use.
