How good is Stanford's CS program?

Local dumbass here... So if I'm using XCode for C/C++ projects, and want to include a file such as
std::ifstream inputFile("folder1/folder2/folder3/porn/notporn/triangle.txt");

What could I do to not have to write all the subdirectories leading to "triangle.txt"? Is it as easy as dragging and dropping the file to the sidebar?

I need to know how I can switch my scroll wheel to the width of my brush in Photoshop CC help for

I want to set up LAMP plus a few different application servera and some flavour of the month shit just to go through digitalocean tutorials and learn some more stuff but I have no application to run and no populated database, can anyone point me in the direction of some kind of fairly extensive pre built app/csv data so I can start moving the data around and playing with it? I really don't care what it is, just as long as it has enough meat on its bones for me to play around with setting up clusters and shit and test it effectively. It'll all be on a small private cloud (VCD) of VMs running the latest Ubuntu or CentOS.

I have a 2010 Asus ROG G60jx. I recently installed a new 1TB HDD in it. Last night all 4 USB ports have stopped working. They provide power but nothing plugged into them is detected. Infrequently I get a failed device driver system tray notification. Also, since I changed hard drives I have not been able to get any windows 7 updates as the updater refuses to launch no matter what settings I use. Also when I tried to us the trouble shooter to diagnose the win update not working the trouble shooter refuses to launch and I get error code 0x8E5E0247. Googling this has pointed me towards it being an intel driver issue with the Intel Rapid Storage driver. But I am confused because it is a RAID driver and I am not running a RAID setup. Please help.

How disappointed would you be about doing a clean install?

didn't get a reply last thread
looking for agood place to find comics and a good android comic reader
thanks

Have you tried asking Sup Forums?

I am running out of options at this point but I would like that to be a last resort. I also don't know where my Win7 install disk is.

Help is appreciated

Bump

What do I do here? I don't want to be ``Ping'd to Death''.

>waiting 10 minutes
Fuck off, you piece of shit.

did not, thanks

I'm waiting for this question since last thread almost a hour ago, I just want to bubble for my fellow anons but my photoshop fucked up.

also ran sfc /scannow and it found a bunch of broken shit and I don't think it fixed any of it.

Thanks for pointing that out. I was about to help the tard

What did it say when you ran it?

Is it worth buying Malwarebytes premium?

Feels bad man

Can you:

howtogeek.com/howto/7728/troubleshot-startup-problems-with-startup-repair-tool-in-windows-7-vista/

No

So I just installed a monitor arm on a very sturdy desk.

Every time I type the monitor jiggles just a little bit. What's the solution here?

What are the fastest Radeon and GeForce GPUs ever made for AGP slots? I can't seem to find any good answers online besides "lol buy a new system", and now I'm honestly curious. So far the only thing I found was, Radeon wise, the HD4670, but nothing on the GeForce side. I just want to know who won the 'AGP War', if you will.

My router is causing ridiculous ping. I know for a fact it is my router because everything works perfectly fine until I plug it in (including those connected directly to the source modem/router combo). What could possibly be causing this? My first thought was a ip conflict, but my router is assigning from 10.142, not from 192.168.

Any ideas?

Was not able to get the startup repair or anything. Goes straight to that loading screen

a lot, I don't remember specifics but I have the CBS log file still though none of it means anything to me. there are a lot of failures and errors in it that I don't think were fixed. I could run it again though. didn't take too long when I first ran it

Yikes.. That's.. just.. Draconian..

Yeah re-run it. It actually helps to run it up to 3 times

i think my gpu has died on me.

connecting my gpu using dvi and hdmi results in no signal found on my monitor. connecting dvi from my motherboard and using integrated grpahics works fine.

my graphics card is not found on device manager. could this be a problem that my computer is choosing not to use my graphics card or could my pcie slot on the mobo be dead?

pls help

Your "source modem/router combo" is called a gateway. Is your 'router only' in bridged mode?

all right I'm running it again right now. I'll post a screen when it finishes. I appreciate the help

Is there a skill in tech that I can learn in 9 months that I could get certified in or some shit and be able to get a job? Programming, IT, anything. I can type 130-140 WPM but I got it from gaming and have no skills other than HTML.

I don't even know what bridged mode is, to be honest. I just took a set-up I've been using for years but plugged in a different router. I'll read more about this.

Incidentally, will bridged mode make my network attached storage via USB port on the router available to everyone on the network?

Gonna be a daddy?

You want to turn off the routing function that's bult into the gateway. You probably won't be able to access its settings anymore. Then it wont really matter what you do on the router. The usb will be available to every device connected to it's router, unless you have security settings in place to stop that

Hah, wrong choice of time frame I guess, looks pretty desperate from that viewpoint kek

Just looking for an employable skill that I can pick up quickly.

I don't suppose I have another option that will keep the networks distinct, do I? I looked it up and bridging my router would prevent me from using the USB port. At this point I may as well dig up the old piece of shit WRT54G that I know will work.

what can i use for anime and cartoons now that kickass is gone?

AnimeBytes

what about for american shows and cartoons?

Any router nesting comes with some penalty. You probably just didn't notice it before. And you can do it, it's just not ideal. Making a network within a network screws up your NAT and latency by nature.

ran it again got pic related. also ran malwarebytes and it found a sathurbot trojan that was quarantined and deleted

...Anybody? I'm desperate to learn shit I should already know by know

Sir I respectfully submit that I noticed a difference between the previous set-up and this atrocity.

I was looking into linksys's articles on cascading and there really shouldn't be a problem here, let alone a problem of this magnitude.

How can I get this same indicator to appear at the bottom of threads in addition to, or instead of the top using ccd0 4chanx
Yeah should be fine lad

If you're actually catching trojans that you've actually allowed to enter your system and run, your real problem is security and I would change the way you do things pronto.

But back to the problem at hand. Your picrelated is saying that some of your system files are corrupted. You can try running sfc from safe mode. If that doesn't work there's the 'system update readiness tool' that might. You can also manually replace the broken files

support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/929833

howtogeek.com/222532/how-to-repair-corrupted-windows-system-files-with-the-sfc-and-dism-commands/

You're dealing with absolute vs relative filenames. When your program runs, it runs from the folder that the main code is in. If the file is in the same folder as main.c them you can use the relative filename, i.e. without all the folders.

You might have an additional problem. But if your old router wasn't in client/access point/bridging mode then it wasn't doing as good as it could have been.

By how much does the size of an HDD affect the lifespan?

Was looking at a 1TB drive but the 3TB drive of the same series is only $30 more.

Also what brands to avoid? I have not bought an HDD in a few years, my primary drive just failed

Is it better to use the default open source driver for AMD or the proprietary? Will it make a difference as far as general performance and power efficiency? I'm more concerned with the latter, not gaming here. I have an APU if that makes a difference.

>If you're actually catching trojans that you've actually allowed to enter your system and run, your real problem is security and I would change the way you do things pronto.
Probably came in the keygen for the cracked version of FL Studio I downloaded. But yeah I should be more careful.

>You can try running sfc from safe mode. If that doesn't work there's the 'system update readiness tool' that might. You can also manually replace the broken files
I will try those. Manually replacing corrupted files sounds tedious but I'll do it. If all those don't work is it clean install time?

pls respond

Why is this not showing the labels?

Yeah a clean install is a good catch all for this sort of thing. If you go that rout, I would flip through your bios and make sure any raid options get turned off, then after you reinstall 7 follow this

wu.krelay.de/en/2016-07.htm

and install:
support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3172605

to get your updates running. Then once you've got everything set up (that you're absolutely sure is virus free) back it all up with macrium reflect so if anything ever goes wrong again you can have it all fixed in like a half hour. It's hella nice

Okay thank you... But would this also work if I made a reference to the file (as in, dropping it into the sidebar)?

can i buy a kinguin OEM key to activate an un-activated windows 10? i installed windows 10 a few months back after building my new PC, and i clicked the "activate later" button- it's worked just fine until now. a watermark in the corner of my screen is prompting me to activate it now. do i NEED retail, or can i use just a 28 dollar OEM key?

I'm building my first PC and I was told by the wiki to post my build here before I by it in case I'm dumb as fuck and missed something. pcpartpicker.com/list/Q7Z7TH

Here's what it'll be used for:

1. Gaming - Should be able to run games like Overwatch on high settings at 1080p, but I don't really care if it can run on super high settings on 1440p or anything like that.

2. Programming - I'm a software dev. I'm assuming any pc capable of running modern games at high settings will be more than enough for any kind of programming, but what do I know.

3. Dual booting Windows/Linux. I know there are sometimes issues with BIOS when trying to dualboot Linux, but I don't have a lot of experience in this area.

Thank ya

Alright now I at least know what to do. Thanks again for taking your time to help me with this. And I'm definitely going to make a back up to avoid this headache again.

Technically it's against microsoft's TOS but they don't really care

that's good. you happen to know if OEM keys are ONLY for fresh installs, or will they'll also work for activating an already installed version of windows 10 that isn't activated yet?

Doesn't matter. As long as the version (home vs pro) is the same, you'll be good

There was a Firefox addon that removed some url string parameters for privacy or something like that, anyone remember its name?

Im talking about for example the urls you get from google search, instead of going to whereiwantogo.com you get bunchofstrings.whereiwantogo.com

For common sense? no.

For a computer of a tech illiterate you care a lot?
Hell yes.

For business?
Yes but there are better options like other antivirus wont let user deactivate them and include host lists of sites they dont want employees or users to use.

Why is dllhost.exe using 50% and leaking memory up endlesly on my PC?

Is it time to reinstall if i cant do a system restore? disabled them 2 years ago.

Only happens when i start my PC and stops when i close the proesess with task manager.

thank you

A "reference" is a symbolic link, idk what the xcode side bar does. If you really want to learn this stuff, forget xcode.

Use vim to edit and gcc to compile, then test this stuff out on your own.

Alright... Thank you! Will do!

OS?

Drop the H60, no point in using it in a mid tower case where a conventional heat sink will perform just as well for cheaper.

GTX 970 is obsolete, get either a GTX 1060 or RX 480

1) don't get a 970 unless it's on an insane sale for like $225 or less, get an rx 480 or a 1060 instead

2) get a 212 evo instead of an h60, or at least google some comparisons before you buy. i regret getting my h60- it's overpriced and apparently louder/weaker than a 212 evo. it looks cool in my s340 case, and it's low profile is nice, but it's apparently not that great. the stock fan is really loud too, i had to replace mine with a noctua fan. i did the research too and found out the 212 evo will fit in an s340 case, so you're good on that front.

3) i have the same case, cpu, mobo and cooler- they all look and work great together. i have a1070 with a supernova 550w and it works fine, so depending on the video card you buy, a 650w might be slightly overkill.

Thanks! I had no idea that the 970 was a no-go. Guess I should do some more research.

Is there in fact a distinction between bridging and cascading? The terms seem to be used interchangeably on the internet.

>have porn folder
>800+ pictures
>all is well until recently
>suddenly, there are only 500 pictures
>don't know how or when this happened
>recuva hasn't found a single file in the folder that has remain unchanged for several years
>last backup from a year ago has 600 pictures
what do?

Also for dual booting its not necessary but it may save you some headaches to use two completely separate SSDs

Does it matter which 1060 I get? Like is there some compatibility issue I have to worry about with any of my other components, or is for example this one good?

pcpartpicker.com/product/pbL7YJ/evga-geforce-gtx-1060-6gb-gaming-video-card-06g-p4-6161-kr

>restore backup
>merge backed up porn with existing porn, overwriting duplicates
Maybe some of the ones that disappeared were in the backup, other than that I don't know what to tell you

No compatibility issues but I'd avoid reference cards

that worked a bit, i have 1000 images now
thanks

Wonder what happened with the images.

On the GeForce side, it was the 7950 GX2, I think.

yeah me too

What's wrong with reference cards? I've never heard about them until just now, but from my quick research, why would I not want a card that conforms strictly to the specs from Nvidia/AMD?

Also, how can you tell if it's a reference card or not?

Because the specs are ass. Nvidia/amd put out the minimal specs and lets the manufacturers do something decent with them

Reference cards are the minimum spec
Aftermarket cards will generally have better cooling, clock speeds and often better power delivery.

So should I then avoid the cards sold directly from NVidia/AMD? I'm very new to this so sorry if some of what I'm saying makes no sense. Up until last week I thought NVidia/AMD were the ones actually manufactured all of the GeForce/RX cards.

I'm opening up my laptop for the first time for a dusting, seems easy with all the tutorials out there even if I'm going to have to totally dismantle this thing just to get to the fan and heatsink. I'm scared so I have some questions:
Is a can of compressed air really enough? I kind of want this thing to be like new again, will any small paintbrush do for finer cleaning? Is there a method to brushing away dust from certain parts, or is is it just like dusting anything else? Are there things I absolutely should not touch no matter what?
It's kind of an old laptop so I was also thinking of reapplying thermal paste. Do I just get the old stuff off with any random rag? I've seen arctic silver pastes being recommended, are there others I should consider?
Sorry for all the dumb questions, pls someone hold my hand very firmly

They're the ones who manufacture the chips, but the rest of the card is done by other companies. You might get a slightly better deal buying reference, but it's usually not worth it.

Just got a bunch of new pc parts, my case is coming in the mail tomorrow afternoon. Just realized my 2007 500w PSU most likely will not be able to handle an i5, a 750 TI (waiting for new cards to release), an SSD, a hard drive, and an extra fan.
What PSUs are good at about 550-600 watts? Needs to fit in a node 304 micro case.

**Newegg power calculator gave me 483 watts with the HDD, and 479 watts with the SSD.

The REAL question I have is should I install my SSD or my hard drive for the time being? I imagine it's simpler to move a few rando files from the SSD than a whole OS.

Now I know why I'm in the stupid questions general.

can someone explain me what is the etc/hosts file for?

I am setting up a linux server
the tutorial says that I need to modify it
but I don't understand what's it for
so I don't know if its really necessary to modify that file

I want to start learning SQL in Linux. I'm not sure what flavor to learn, or what learning resource would be best to use. Ideally looking for something with a sample database to learn from. Any tips would be super appreciated.

For background, I have experience with C, C++, Java, Perl, and Node.js.

bought new ram and when i put it in my computer wont start. doesnt even go to bios.

have an asus b150 d3 gaming mobo.
why the fuck?

current config: 2 x 4gb kingston 1866mhz
new ram: 2 x 4gb kingston 1333mhz

just wont start when i add the new ram

my nas has two 4tb drives, couple of years old. I use it to stream stuff maybe 3 hours a day and overnight it is usually torrenting stuff, so maybe 8 hours there. Would WD reds be absolute overkill? Would greens with adjusted head parking times be fine?

500 should be fine for an i5 and 750ti even with degradation

This seems to be the highest rated 1060 on Newegg, but it's on backorder. Does this one seem good? Besides Clock speeds, I'm not really sure what to be looking for. Bnewegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814137018&ignorebbr=1
