>pretty much perfect emulation for every console until PS2 era
Except Snes (yeah fuck you, its not playable)...and dreamcast...and saturn
Snes9x
ps vita just got jailbroken or something
arstechnica.com
time to buy one i guess.
>vomit tier display, analog stick (only one of them, mind you)
>MUCH less powerful than n3ds, which is even easier to develop for
The 3DS didn't even exist when the PSP was around, and the DS was dogshit compared to the PSP.
Also MIPS master race.
I'd give it a few months. They're pretty much the same emulators than the PSP. We're yet to see emulators that actually take advantage of the PSVita's performance.
Was told that the homebrew scene took off after I gave my PSP to my cousin. I got hold of a PSP Go, tried it, and it still sucked.
>Only emulators that worked right were NES and Sony-made PS1
>>good battery life
lol
It is playable. You just need to unlock 64MB RAM mod from your CFW menu.
Yep. Looks like it. Games are proven to be moddable.
You are talking about 1K's and 2K's screen. 3K's screen is alright except lines problem. GO and Street's are perfect. Also, PSP is still superior in some specs even if it's 6-7 years older.
NoUMD, not using the brightness like you are angel or some shit, earphones (speakers suck). 1800mAh battery is going 8-10 hours for me when vidya.
>MUCH less powerful than n3ds, which is even easier to develop for
wow it only took nintendo 7 years to do it!
Considering getting a PSP just to play mc3de remix.
Holy fuck people still remember Midnight Club?
Fuck yeah guy
>That McLaren F1 LM 95
Wheeee
Yes. My laptop is too shit to emulate it properly so i might as well just buy a PSP.
>McLaren F1 LM 95
weeeeeeeeeeeee
SNES is fine if you have a 2000 or newer, but that's not to say there aren't a lot of issues, and some games will require you switching between video modes to get full speed without compromises (looking at you, Chrono Trigger)
N64 is fine on my 1000 as long as I stick to popular titles like super mario, I don't see how it struggles with SNES at all. Haven't tried snes yet though...
>people actually play video games
are you like 15 or something? surely you can be doing something more productive
SNES used some special chips in some games. (Super FX chip) to enhance (scaling effect, far/close effect etcetera) the game without extension hardware like Genesis. Emulating it is hard.
I code some side projects on PSP when I have nothing to do. Cool for learning Python and C.
2D systems need pixel-perfect emulation, more or less, and it's extremely difficult to offload a lot of those types of graphics calculations to the GPU, and when you can, it's generally for negligible performance gains.
I see.
Thanks
PS Vita is on the rise also, considering HENkaku was released.
Almost as easy to make homebrew for!
I'm currently making homebrew for 3ds though. Started a big project before HENkaku was announced.
PSP was released at the right time though, most psp and vita functions can be done on a smartphone now.
Plus Vita had a fucked up launch and it's taken this long just to build up a basic softmod that you'll lose on rebooting.
Fuck telephones. They are for casuals. Literally. Even the reddit fucks accept this. And, the exploit is just 4 days old for fucks sake calm down. There was Rejevunate before this but people didn't bother as it was hard to install.
Yep. The Vita launch was a fail.
It was also way ahead of its time according to some people.
It was ahead of it's time considering product launches are getting shittier and shittier by day and we will literally have the product + 20 DLCs to unlock playing games or sth in 20 years?
>just 4 days old
The exploit. HENkaku. Not the Vita. Vita is dead by now and considered legacy hardware by Sony.
That's my point.
It took them 5 years for a mod you'll lose every time you reboot.
This is why smartphones are superior.
>smartphones
>superior
This board requires you to be at least 18 years old or older.
Enjoy carrying a second bulky device with shit tier Battery life with you along with your phone :')
But it is okay when you carry your battery pack with you? I don't get it.
so i can buy a vita tv and play that poopsona 4 the golden undub now?
I'd rather do some dev on 3DS though. Two screens and all the other bells and whistles you get leaves a lot of room to have fun with something interesting. And you can build packages that can be installed on home screen or ones that anyone on any firmware can launch from homebrew menu.
Why would I need a battery pack?
Do you really spend more than 11 hours on your phone in a day?
The second half of your text is possible on PSP too. The first part? True. Not gonna argue that.
>he fell for the xiaomeme
> comfortable to hold
No
>comfortable to hold.
If you don't need the analog stick maybe.
Other than that, I wouldn't really say it's a forgotten system, the homebrew scene is still active, you can still find CFW updated to the latest versions, and considering it's been obsolete for, what? 5 years now? I'd say it still gets more support than the Vita, which admitelly had a bit to do with the slow down of the PSP scene.
Also the advent of smarthphones, the 3DS, and Linux/Windows devices.
Niggas, fucking Raspberry Pi has no problem with running emulators. What a shame.
I have a Pi 3. Cool device for emulating, but a pain in the ass to make it portable while getting a decent battery life.
Playing games on the go is degenerate as fuck. Don't do that.
Pi 3 came out last year, psp came out 12 years ago.
I wonder why a device powered from the AC outlet on your wall and released last year performs better than a handheld device released 13 years ago.
Soo..why buy shit when you can get something better for less money?
I don't understand your question, who ITT is saying anyone should buy one?
>psp 1000/2000/3000 costs you £30 on ebay, has plenty of input devices already on it, all one package, all you need is a charger and micro sd card to memorystick, is portable
>raspberry pi 3 costs £30, also need charger, HDMI cable, keyboard, mouse, monitor, most likely a usb hub, micro sd card, must be plugged into wall at all times and you're going to run down another £200 if you're trying to make it portable
yeah, pi really is a viable option for portable emulation right?
>>pretty much perfect emulation for every console until PS2 era
That's fucking bullshit. The only thing it emulates well is 3rd gen and lower.
PS1 isn't emulation.
Also, the PSP library sucks. Only good game is monhun.
There's no reason to have one over a 3DS or even an Android device.
Jokes on you, I still have my 3000 and working like the first day.
Bought it in 2006 and amazes my that it goes like it does
Tekkan, the third birthday, kingdom hearts, crisis core, NFS most wanted, Dissidia
All good games.
>tfw you never owned one
how retarded is buying one in the current year?
I'd like emulation with physical buttons and not the shit you got with android smartphones
op is retarded they're p shitty for most emulation
not retarded at all, i bought a 1000 recently even though i have a 2000 and a go, i don't regret it, they are the best portable devices for emulation and homebrews
Oh. The golden era of gaming with friends. I still remember going to a friends house and spending the entire day with 30 other friends playing syphon filter or resistance and sacking each other across the face when we got killed
how so? no turbo boost? unstable? bad compatibility?
which is the best model for fucking around with custom firmware?
The cheapest one you can find cuz if u blow the flash ur fukd
too slow to even run a lot of GBA/SNES games at full speed without frame skipping
I still use it as MP3/Ebook reader.
Though I still get some weird looks every now and then.
I'm the user who plays HMFoMT.
Recently I started to play planetarian, for the feels.
youtube.com
No issues with 3000 and retroarch.
I'd give it a month or two before some sort of law suite will follow.
Though PSP Vita CFW will be nice.
>battery
Have you tried the phone battery substitution mod?
Based game.
>PSP library sucks
How high are you high?
no issues with analog stick?
Also is that screen protector?
1000 used to best for cfw because the rest couldn't have a permanent one because the newer motherboards patched it or something
but in the modern day you can get permanent cfw's for the rest too, so any of them really
>PSP library sucks
There are a ton of good games, I've spent hours going for 100% completion on psp games because they just were great.
Shame on you not counting god of war as a good game.
>no reason to have one over a 3DS or even an android
My gf has both, she loves Nintendo and has a GameCube, Wii and Wii U too. I took my PSP loaded with games one time and she wouldn't give it back.
>she even loved oreimo portable
Come on user, don't you wish you could play oreimo with a qt grill in bed all night?
Still own a 1000. Love watching anime/movies while I'm on the road. While downclocked, it works for 9 hours on a battery that is 7 years old. A shame that I didn't change stick and a front plate after all that time...
>god of war
>tfw you will never have a ninesome like kratos
youtube.com
Do you know where to get english patched PSP VNs?
The PSP sold so much in japan because of it.
Still have my black 3000 right next to my bed. I just need to get a memory stick for it.
>Love watching anime/movies while I'm on the road
Why?
Isn't there a better devices?
Also what are you using in ffmpeg?
And why downclocked?
i would use my psp but the backlight connector is broken.. its so fucking small that theres no way to fix it.
That's not true at all. I've got mine emulating Pokemon emerald with the cpu limited to 166mhz for slightly better battery life
load up sword of mana
get to screen with enemies/town with NPCs with frameskip off
enjoy your stutterfest
10 years. The O3DS is roughly similar performance-wise.
Because my phone's battery is almost dead after 1 year of usage even without frequently playing any sort of games. It holds for like 6 hours or so. I actually never re-encoded stuff for PSP because I can just simply download it from rutracker (I'm russian). The reason I downclock it is that it could work longer, obviously.
Works smooth for me, did you use the latest emulator?
yeah, latest gpsp kai
There aren't many, oreimo and toradora are the only ones I know that are fully translated, amagami has a day 1 patch but it seems its nearing completion so maybe a full patch will be out in a few months. There may be one or two others I missed but the list isn't very long.
vndbs is your best bet for checking out psp (or any system) VNs and if they have a translation. Other than that nicoblog.org
You should've fallen for the Moto Sup Forums meme.
>playing videogames to wank to framerates
>not enjoying the fucking game
SNES is perfectly playable, even Super FX games are.
>Dreamcast
That's PS2 era.
It was one of the first pocketable quad core devices to come out, the thing was a beast.
>Vita is dead and is considered legacy hardware
wat
Enjoy using an inferior jack of all trades master of none device because you're too much of a little bitch to use pockets for their intended purpose.
>The only thing it emulates well is 3rd gen and lower.
That's fucking bullshit.
>PS1 isn't emulation.
But SNES, Genesis, and N64 are.
You can get an adapter for ~$2 and use one or two microSD cards
>dual core 268MHz ARM11 CPU with 128MB RAM
>single core 333MHz MIPS R4000 CPU with 32-64MB RAM
Totally comparable
you're fucking stupid
emulation frame rates aren't like PC games, if you're only getting 30fps the game is literally running at half speed
>SNES, Genesis, and N64 are not dogshit on the PSP
nice denial sonygger
>Pokemon emerald
A few months ago I was playing this, and was criticized for playing "childish" game.
Now everyone plays pokemon go, and criticized me for playing "outdated" game.
>what is frame skipping
You can run a game at full speed with a reduced framerate, you fucking dumbass.
>everyone I disagree with is in denial
Nice meme
They don't even sell vitas in large parts of the US anymore because no one was buying them
>frameskipping
absolutely fucking disgusting
get out
>>what is frame skipping
cancer
Btw, the o3DS actually can run SNES and Genesis games at full speed without frameskipping. MHz aren't everything.
Not the same guy but they do run just fine, almost every game I've put on those emulators runs without problems. Particularly the genesis, pico is so fucking good and I even tried Sega CD titles.
you're straight lying you retard, you can barely emulate mario 64 at a half decent frame rate with no audio
Ocarina of time runs at full speed for the most part. Its not perfect but it doesn't rain dropped frames either so I'm not lying. SNES literally has no problems either. I'd like to know what kind of emulators you put on your psp m8
Doesn't make it a legacy product.
>frameskipping is never acceptable
So you do play games to wank to framerates
>Btw, the o3DS actually can run SNES and Genesis games at full speed without frameskipping
No fucking shit, the 3DS is newer and more powerful.
>MHz aren't everything
I never said otherwise.
Mario 64 can play at a fine framerate, and audio's not necessary. Don't get me wrong, it's nice to have, but by no means necessary. Nice cherrypicking by the way.
retard
moron
you're both fucking stupid don't reply to me I'm afraid I might catch it
>lolol ur stoopid xD
Nice argument.
I can confirm the PSP is nearly unusable for N64 emulation unless you enjoy 6FPS
User the unofficial.
it was
I've also tried a couple other versions, like the J one
all run like shit for anything except basic shit like Pokemon
tell you what i want. metal faceplates for a psp. not a cover, but the actual part, it would make for a cool "mod"
>Why are these beauties are forgotten, Sup Forums ?
Piracy killed them.
PSP homebrew is not as good as you make it out to be. It's time to take off those rose-tinted glasses.
In fact, it's pretty terrible. Both Picodrive and that SNES9x PSP version are horrible. Picodrive is a very, very poorly optimized version of the GP2X original and it was left for dead quickly by notaz who was very candid about not liking the PSP at all compared to GP2X, while SNES9x Euphoria is a pretty disastrous hacked version of SNES9x with all sorts of graphics regressions.
Vita is really a bit of a letdown considering the low underclocked clockspeed, but it's still Cortex A9 ARM, and that means that it's easy as hell to port ARM-optimized code to it, which goes a long way, while with PSP you are stuck with a weird gimped MIPS CPU and all sorts of esoteric stuff which ultimately results in a lot of time being wasted on getting any kind of decent performance out of it, and in the end (just like PS3) you still have little to show for all your effort anyway.
b-but muh frameskip
g-god tier emulation guys...
I'm in no way saying that the PSP's emulators were all perfect, I'm simply saying that the games are playable.
>rose tinted glasses
I'd have to be wearing a pair to take them off.
xD
>games are playable.
>h-half speed slideshow is t-totally playable guys
>full speed game at reduced framerate
>20fps is a slideshow
Some people actually play games to enjoy them. Go circlejerk about framerates on Sup Forums, you fucking imbecile.
