Why is nobody here talking about QuadRooter...

Why is nobody here talking about QuadRooter? Basically any phones running on Qualcomm CPUs (around 70% of android devices right now) are apparently vulnerable to privilege escalation to root from normally installed apps. This might be the biggest thing in "phone rooting" fucking EVER. How are you not EXCITE?

>Linux """"""""""security""""""""

waiting for the next CM nightly

who /cheapchinkphonewithaMTKprocessor/ here?

For security this isn't as big of a deal as people make it out to be. You literally have to download an app outside of the playstore to get infected. Most people don't know how to check the "unknown sources" option so most are also pretty safe.

this will only affect retart that install every apk they see

This and stagefright used together could be used to get remote root access to someone's phone by sending them a text message.
:^)
But seriously, no, it's not a security thing. But it's exciting because we'll be able to root a bunch of previously unrootable devices!
>who here moto e 2nd gen

This is a flaw in Qualcomm's CPUs, has nothing to do with Linux. It's arbitrary that Qualcomm CPUs only traditionally run Linux. Every Android device with any non-Qualcomm CPU is unaffected.

>flaw in Qualcomm's CPUs
It's not a fucking exploit on the hardware you idiot, it's an exploit for the shitty drivers that Android uses with the Qualcomm CPU.

o

>using the smiley with a carat nose

Something wrong, brother? :^)

Not a worry for Android walled garden.

>using the smiley with a carat nose

>You literally have to download an app outside of the playstore to get infected
malware apps get onto the play store all the time though

>How are you not EXCITE?
Because my phone is already rooted, why would I care about this?

You mean the thing that was found after and then Google did a rescan and removed based on new findings and removed affected software?

So glad I'm using mediatek instead with my current phone

>not having an Intel Inside™
This is me being smug. Look how smug I am. #smuglyfe

Thank G-d my phone uses an Apple A9 processor, the world's most advanced CPU.

see pic realted

>ANDROID USERS WORLD WIDE ARE AT RISK OF COMPLETE ENSLAVEMENT BY ROBOTS UNLESS YOU INSTALL MY APP TO TEST YOUR VULNERABILITY

I can't believe people still even click on this 'news' I feel stupid even commenting on it. It's the same clickbait over and over again.

MTK MASTER RACE

Yes?

Remember androidfags

>no privacy
>no security
>no updates

you are the laughing stock of mobile operating systems

see

Because only iPhones get viruses silly, android is a rock solid OS devoid of any vulnerabilities thanks to fast updates and general security features.

>This might be the biggest thing in "phone rooting" fucking EVER
Nah dude, that's like that since exynos from Note 1 and Note 2, both could also be rooted using a simple apk that didn't even need root.

Old news is old.

Also:
Thinking that giving the user root access using programs, because that's what apps are, over his own phone should be fucking standard, not the exception.

Because it will only affect those who sideload apps, and even then the play store service would stop that installation.

It's a non issue.

Can it root my Marshmallow Note 4?

Yee? I'm excite.

No? Fuck off.

>Why is nobody here talking about QuadRooter?

Because
>have to have malware app installed and run it

you're autistic

Who are you quoting?

Yeah it can but nobody's made a root utility utilizing it yet.

>rooting your phone

캨 m8

No shit it would be pointless for a rooting app to require root to work. Dumbass

Nexus 4 Chroma 6.0.1

This nigger can't even read properly.

Why do dumb yanks spell it "rooting", is it so you don't pronounce it "rowting"?

user, the administrative user in Unix is called root. It is called rooting because it allows you to run applications as root.

Will this allow me to finally root my G4 on Marshmallow?

>yurop """""banter"""""

Does this mean the Priv will be able to be rooted? The lack of rooting was the only thing stopping me from getting one

If a Universal Root were to be released, I'd suck someone's nuts for it.
>No Homo.

i can't seem to filter this new shitty meme, help

Priv owner here, a bit excited about this news.

this pic, every fucking time

If you have a superuser manager app, will it still do something?

Because Sup Forums is too scared to admit their precious Androids are a security mess due to lack of updates.

what a retarded fucking faggot. Get out of this board. You are not qualified to be in a tachnology board, go spread your stupidity in Sup Forums

has nothing to do with android updates.

Yes it does. Most Android phones will never receive a patch, just like they didn't receive it for Stagefright and are now vulnerable.

Still more secure than Windows 10, which promises more security than previous versions of Windows and yet at the same time does everything in the cloud which by definition makes it less secure. (People have to actually be near your computer to deal with anything stored locally but the, "cloud," can be accessed by anyone anywhere.)

Based Intel Atom

because qualcomm already allows rooting from official sources

Guys, are flip phones and other types of dumbphones immune to this exploit?

this particular vulnerability has nothing to do with android

3/4 of the exploits are already patched I'm cm nightly, the last one already has a number of pull requests being fought over.

This is a non-issue if you're on nightlies

Are you some kind of turbo autist?
It affects Android phones. If said phones actually received updates it would affect them way less.

QC released patches several months ago, and they're already in AOSP.

problem is, non-nexus and non-AOSP-devices rarely get updates, if any.

It effects phones with qualcomm cpus. It is OS agnostic.

You think ios is immune to these kind of stuff?

Immune to 'not receiving security updates'?
Yeah, it seems to be. (At least for a few years.)

Welp, how the fuck do I protect myself from this shit? CM only has unofficial buggy releases for my phone and samsung gives absolutely 0 fucks about patching it.

Get a nexus then or install CM

>No updates
I've got a 3GS stuck on iOS 6 which is basically useless because apps won't even install on it.

Meanwhile my Motorola Droid can still run everything I throw at it, not to mention custom firmware which provides updates too ;^)

>it's an exploit for the shitty drivers that Android uses with the Qualcomm CPU
You mean Qualcomm's drivers?
Stop trying to push the problem onto Android. Qualcomm supply the drivers for their processors.

Don't download random clickbait apps, especially from outside the Play Store, and you will be completely immune.

Someone please make a rooting app using this so i can finally get rid of the chinese root thing i hacked SuperSU on top of.

big if true

>not having a umi super
enjoy your literal botnet, flagshipfags

Where is your god now snapdildo fags?

Meanwhile on MTK...

For all we know applications like KingRoot already make use of this exploit.

You mean the drivers that Qualcomm provide specifically for android? How is that Linux's problem?

This. Guys are blowing this out of the water. You would have to be on some shit device without google play store *COUGH* *Amazon* for this to even be a danger of potential device hijack.

The premium iPhone 6S with A9 cpu doesn't have this problem.

Apple pls go

Samsung Galaxy S7, T-mobile, Android 6.0.1

Can it possibly be rooted

Unix """"""""""""security""""""""""""

Fucking nobody.

>drivers for their processors
Sup Forums

nobody's talking about t because only poors use android, it's a security joke.

Same on my shitty Huawei G620S

can't believe you fell for it

A phone that literally voids the warranty just to have basic functionality.

#words("""")

Which patch level?

/"{3,}[^"\n]+"{3,}/

>Access vector: local
So not a problem at all unless you're fucking retarded.

>Able to root my phone on the toilet
>Able to root my phone on the bus
>Able to root my phone on the train

a mobile processor isn't just a CPU you idiot. it's a systems on a chip. you would know that if you weren't too busy masturbating to anime porn.

I suppose rooting your device and having an app like super su authorize root requests wouldn't do much against it, huh? Since apps like that watch for su requests not any action as root...

>using a picture of the smiley with a carat nose

>Verizon LG G4
>development is dead
>implying it was ever there to begin with
Maybe this will kick it off again.

I have a Zenfone 2, I don't care.

Lucky. How is it?

Probably not gonna need another phone for like 5 years.

>a processor is a processor + interconnect components and coprocessors
