no

I don't know

Yes

maybe.

No, you fucking dumbass. An RX 480 or GTX 1060 are both around the same price and far better buys. The used market is even better right now. I picked up a mint condition R9 290X on eBay for £135 a few days ago.

Ì looked at 1060 benchmarks and it didn't look much better, I'll look into it a little more but couldn't find a reason to buy it over the 970.

Yes, if you want to be stuck with DirectX 11 till' you buy a new one...

The 1060 is roughly equal to the 980, i.e. 10-15% faster than a 970. It also has 6GB VRAM instead of 3.5GB.

I'm flipping a coin tomorrow on a sapphire nitro for £240 or EVGA SC 1060 for £254.

No.

Either a RX 480 or a 1060 would be a better choice now.

It never was the best card in its price range.

£200 you mean

Depends on what games you play. That 3.5 limit is going to fuq you over if you want to play AAA titles in 2016/17

>That 3.5 limit is going to fuq you over

no it won't. it hasn't and never will be a problem. post me some legitimate proof with sources to back it which proves it's ever been a problem.

>inb4 mirrors edge

it's been patched to work perfectly on 4gb cards at hyper settings.

Tomorrow's my personal deadline to stop me putting shit off.

check ebuyer you can get a 970 for 200 or check ocuk you can get a 1060 for 235. don't ever touch a 480 since it's 270 currently and performs way worse than the 970 and 1060.

Rise of the tomb raider uses upwards of 7Gb on my 1080 at 1080P.

3.5Gb is gonna eventually be an issue

>Is a 970 still the best card to get
yes

£240

>my card

runs nice and cool friend. should be solid for the next 18 months.

sounds like a shit game

on overwatch ultra setting and 1440p i only use like 1.3gb

>radeon
>better than anything

buy rx 480

>no it won't. it hasn't and never will be a problem. post me some legitimate proof with sources to back it which proves it's ever been a problem.
GTA V.
produces lots of microstuttering once over the threshold. hell this can happen even at sub-1080p too.

to it's credit, it's a fantastic overclocking card, but i don't see it lasting much longer after this year.

Mind you much longer in Sup Forums perspective is turning things down to medium.

If you gave a console user a computer with a gtx 970 their mind would still be blown next year if they didn't know the specs.

I'm pretty sure if no problems pop up with whatever I buy I won't really care for a long time.

Ah yes, I forget how demanding overwatch can be.

no. i play gta online with several 970 owners and not a SINGLE one has ever had this problem.

>sounds like a shit game

Yea because it's a shit game to you means you should tell other people to buy a 970 and when a game runs badly on it you will tell them....Oh it's a shit game. You're a lot of fucking help.

OW also has like No HD textures.
ROTTR is actually an excellent game solid 8.5/10.
But it is true, new games are Unoptimized.
Crysis 3 uses 2gb and looks far better.

But with consoles using 8gb of slow Vram, new games are gonna use 6gb+

did ark's DX12 patch come out yet and fix _anything_?

I think what ever I pick after years of console gaming to a 750ti I'll be happy.
