We do not talk about the music as it is but how it's created and what we use and how to help
others get better

1 simple rule I hope you can guys do, please don't be assholes to those who
have a different perspective on another DAW, no matter what it is or how shitty
it is. I know there are some very laughable ones out there but ya know...
So please just be as helpful as you can.

post discord memelord

Audour, how's the use experience compared to things like Ableton, bitwig, etc.

Your thread needs more Hatsune Miku and Maki best girls. How am I supposed to even attempt to shitpost reasonably without getting baited by weebshit and 303's.

OSS and audio will never be good. Realtime + stability concerns and history of a highly competitive low returns market means OSS will never get to catch up. Plus, most hardware won't work on anything other than Windows or OSX.

Is Audour not good for music production? It's much better than LMSS (Or whatever it's called). Any other free DAWs?

Free and pro audio just isn't possible because there's too much competition in the market already. It's really not worth the time to bother sadly.

Been using FL for bout 6 years now.

Into music for 10 years

I do whatever genre I feel like at the time.I change it up all the time.

I love Harmor, Sytrus, Massive, Serum and many more.

Making music is more of an outlet for me, I don't intend to profit from it. I just make what I want and share it with the world.

What is a good DAW, preferably opensource.
Tried Ableton in the past, but now am looking something with a API to test neural net generated music.

don't get LMMS

Why?

it's basically FL and Ableton's retarded little brother

K then.

That's me right now. I'm trying some things out with 80's style music, new wave I wanna say?

not being a pussy when it comes to eating weird shit

A lot of people like it for it's simplicity, some people like it for it just being out there. It's basically the idea of Linux VS Windows really. As long as you know your way around one well enough (not saying 100% true but) normally you can get the other. FL is just normally easier to work with. However that does not mean just cause you can fiddle with it doesn't mean you will make song after song.

Again, this falls to the whole "It's how you use it" it's like a grand piano and a keyboard. Get my point?

>music is great fun
The only down side is that being a musician is the hardest career to start in if you don't look cute and have a decent voice and can sing to music for someone. (AKA BSB's Nsync ETC)

Helpful tip: you are not a musician just because you threw money at it and installed some software.

what makes someone a musician?
what makes someone an artist?

This is posted on a daily basis and barely anyone replies on-topic.

Take the fucking hint.

If i git gud maybe

What the fuck are you talking about? I've not made this thread in almost a week.

I make this maybe every couple of day to a week

I bought Abletron Live 9 and Push controller a while ago, kinda regret it

I have been making beats for years

One time someone bought a noise album I made for $10

That was a long time ago though, i just make beats for myself and to have fun, I have never tried to make a career and not sure i would want to, i doubt i am that good as well (otherwise it would have happened by now)

Chill hop (not very good at it)

Not really no

Don't have physical synths, but I have a vst I can't remember the name of atm that I really like

Not really, I'm not very good at this music thing because I can't find many good jazz/blues samples. I'd like to get good and release beat tapes for fun but at the moment it's not really feasible :(

Yeah, I'm a songwriter, so it's kind of an important part of it.

It's cheap as shit and ultra basic, perfect for hobbyists

>post you're DAW
>everyone posts software
literally watting
a DAW is mixer/interface in conjunction with whatever shitty software your using
unless all you plebs are just connecting microphones directly to you're motherboards

...

>childlike understanding of audio technology
>wrong form of 'your'
>calls others plebs
The software suites by themselves are typically referred to as DAWs in the industry. Audio Interfaces are called Audio Interfaces (not mixers), as they 'interface' with your computer hardware and your DAW.

>on slash gee
>doesn't know what a slash means

FL Studio

Under a year.

Most of my life.

Electonic, low-fi, pop.

I've been playing "live instruments" for as long as I remember, including synths, but only got into sequencing and working in DAWs this year.

Anyone got advice for getting good at sequencing in Fruity Loops? I'm finding it difficult to transcribe exactly what I want into the piano roll easily.

Don't end up like retard user. Lurk moar.

yet another user confused what a DAW is
protip its not whatever shitty software you use to make you're beeps and boops music

I've been thinking about getting into making beats similar to Nujabes. But I am completely lost on how to get started. Any advice?

wut
he was implying i thought i didn't know what an interface or mixer were
i clearly do since i seperated the two words with a slash meaning either or

best advice is to stay the hell away from this thread
op clearly knows fuck all

If you're a real /daw/ /prod/ person, it doesn't matter. Just cause you have a motorcycle, doesn't mean you know how to drive it.
I know people who want to get into sound design and then get Ableton and think cause it's top of the line kinda deal, they will do EVERYTHING. So they hear about "LOL FRUITY LOOPS? WHAT IS THAT? SOME KINDA GAY SOFTWARE xD" And they don't use it cause of the name. The interface is nice, it's easier to use and people like it cause it's just easier. You could love something and not know a damn thing on how it's made.

Just cause you have something, doesn't mean you know how to use it. This is for most men and their dick. Get my point?

Don't listen to the first guy, he's just angry he doesn't understand the point of this thread. Get FL, Ableton, Protools, and watch a load of tutorials, if you want, watch some things on music theory (but it's normally really fucking boring)

go the fuck away asshole. If you don't like my thread, go do something else, you don't HAVE to be here. I make this thread something around once a week, maybe 2 weeks at best, and try to lend a hand at what I know and what I can help with. Either do the same or take yo grumpy ass away from here.

You are just going to get shit from people. "OH LOOK AT ME! I KNOW MORE THAN YOU AHAHA! I'M CLEARLY BETTER THAN YOU!" No you're not. You're an ass. You're a dick, and instead of explaining what's wrong you go in and say OP (me) doesn't know what he is talking about. Did I answer the questions? No. I asked vague questions on purpose. I asked questions I knew would get a simple answer. People want to ask questions, people want to help, that's the point of this. What are you doing user? Sitting there, in your mom's house, at your desk being Mr. Superior.

So do us a favor, PLEASE, either go away, or be helpful. It's just better that way.

Thanks for the advice, is there any reason to get a midi controller as a beginner?

Please add 'what OS do you use?' to the OP so we know how to filter out utterly worthless opinions.

personally, I'd wait to get one (if you have money to blow sure), and just roll with it. What you could do, if you have a tablet, get FL and get the FL controller on the app store. It's pretty good sometimes, specially if you have a nice size tablet.

But, if you want just try something out. If you wanna just play with something as a hobby, I'd get one to learn it. But either way it's if you have disposable money I'd say.

There's really no point, mainly cause almost all mains can be ran in everything.
Ubuntu = Wine (or LOL LMMS)
Mac = Normally has a mac version, or get a vbox and run on Windows
Windows = everything else.

Some people want a mac for the performance, some people want Linux for security and because they have a tin trilby.

Again this goes back to my point on "Just cause you have something doesn't mean you know how to use it concept" which the opposite can be said. I have a Wii U, people insult it all the time, but it's all about if you know how to take advantage of it. Like the fact that you can watch things off it from Google Drive. Watched Mission Hill and Baby Blues. I think cause it's flash maybe? Or HTML5? I'm not sure.

The studio is opened, if you wanna come in and talk, please be nice and respectful of other's opinions or my mods or I will kick you.

Please read my rules. They're basic rules.

Sounds good. Thanks man. One last question: Are there any good alternatives to use on Linux or are they all shit?

The only 1 I will say stay away from is LMMS.

If you're on linux, ironically, FL works 10xs better there in wine. I don't know why, it just does

Absolutely, anyone doing audio work on Windows needs to completely reevaluate their life.
