Why is this shit being pushed so hard?

Why is this shit being pushed so hard?
I was just denied a train ticket because I didn't have one of these and wanted to pay cash.

WTF is this shit

They can't track you with cash.

also banks like cards because they generate interchange fees. businesses (as in "anyone who accepts money for a product or service", public or private) like cards because paying interchange fees is much easier and faster than handling, counting, storing, and transporting cash. Both of them like the idea of keeping a database of everyone who buys things from them, what they bought, for how much, when they bought it, and from where.

country?

Australia

and just because you didn't use a credit/debt card?

It's an opal card. It's like a debit card but only for public transport.

All cash terminals at the train station were closed and I was told to buy opal or walk home.

well what do you know, shitty internet and no freedoms.

Just stage a rebellion in the name of the good ol' US of A, we'll gladly annex you.

We have something similar here called an ORCA card, its like an e-purse for transit, it uses NFC and it'll let you do x-fers. (if you take 5 buses in 2 hours, your only charged for the first one)

Talked to the bus driver and he let me on for free though so its not all bad, but FUCK OPAL.

It has its advantages, but I just hate the way it's being forced onto everyone.

My city's bus system has had NFC cards for god knows how long now, but the bus drivers still do accept cash.

>car breaks down
>attempt to take bus to college for next few days
>look up time tables so I arrive early
>arrive at bus stop at 7am
>bus is late, comes 20 minutes later
>finally get on the bus
>"where's your card??"
>"no it's fine i'm paying cash"
>"i can't accept that you need a card"
>"please step off the bus sir"
>everyone behind me had a card even the homeless guy in tattered clothes

fuck public transport

And this is what you get for abandoning private, simple, no bullshit cash for your credit and alternative payment method bullshit.

You have no one to blame but yourselves. Welcome to the surveillance state future. Dumb, dumb, dumb.

Terrorists use cash.

I recently moved fro Seoul to Calgary. In Seoul with a 'tmoney' card you simply swipe wherever to use transit, all your transfers are automatic, it calculates your fare... Here in Calgary you need to count out coins and show them to the driver who gives you a paper transfer. It's comically antiquated and annoying.

The difference is that ORCA isn't forced, you can still pay cash on buses and at train ticket kiosks.

HEY I LIVE IN CALGARY.

Shithole, only here gearing up for a trip. Today was the first actual summer day (weather wise) in the month I've been here.

Also haven't taken a bus where the driver didn't randomly go on break for 10 minutes leaving everyone sitting there. How in Christ does that still pass in a developed country.

This.
I wouldn't have minded getting an opal because it's more convenient, but now I'm regretting it.

Just came it, feeling a little bitter.

Guess what? Normal people don't want to wait for some faggot to spend minutes fumbling around with change when trying to get onto a bus.

When you looked at their time table you didn't think of looking how much a fare was or how it works? Very few transportation vehicles today will actually take cash because of the risks and hassles of it.

A month ago I was in D.C. had never been there and I had to use the subway, researched it the day before didn't have no problems. Those systems exist because of reasons, you need to take the bus/train you're going to have to conform to it.

Inb4 I don't want to be tracked.

If they track you at all its so that they can coordinate/manage schedules, you're just a dot on the map to them.

>tfw even Adelaide has ticket machines ON the train
>they accept eftpos/paywave too...

>tfw I don't have to do that stupid tap off shit like MYKI either becuase Adelaide Metro still uses the old 2hour system, even with Metrocard.

What are you talking about? it's hot as fuck all day and then it rains. That's summer dummy.

He was probably going to the bathroom.

Can't you buy a one-use fare at a machine with cash? Does the card actually have to be registered in your name?

>I went from being tracked by an oppressive government to being free
Speaking of comical.

Not anymore, it's opal or fuck off

Meanwhile in Germany I just buy my half-year tickets with cash. Interaction is literally just showing the ticket to the operator

Why do other countries need to make everything so complicated?

Calgary "hot as fuck" = anything over 20*

Also has rained constantly here. Used to live in Banff don't remember the constant rain all summer.

That sounds convenient as fuck

That's more of a north american thing. Canadians love cars almost as much as Americans, which is why our mass transit is generally left to stagnate.

And as an aside, paper ballots for elections is actually more secure than the electronic machines down in the US.

Clearly not a part of the energy yet, I see.

>Shithole

then fuck off gook, Alberta for the most part is one of the more beautiful places in Canada to visit.

Shithole is Montreal or Toronto, but still better than any Amercian city.

Is this in america? I haven't been to a metro in a long time.

It's cute that you think that comic actually is a serious representation of the differences between conservatives and liberals.

Considering that the group who always wants to force people to work for the stuff that the government gives them is the right-wing. From "welfare to work" programs, to plans to do the same shit with foodstamps, to practically making labor camps during the great depression, conservative governments can't stand the idea of helping people who actually need it, for no compensation.

And for all the talk of personal responsibility, they're awfully capable of ducking it when it comes to everything Trump says.

Montreal is pretty great used to live there to.

Calgary is probably the most American big Canadian city, in that it's spread out and stagnant. Whole city is shut down when the sun goes down. Everything is so massively spread out, and yet there's little quality green space.

Apropos this thread, my brothers who lives here tells me the mayor is giving all poor people unlimited $5 bus passes or something.

...

Fuck you for having your car break down, that's your fault

They make these magical boxes that count change. I know it's hard to believe but they can count out a fare in seconds.

Yeah I'm getting one soon because I get autismbux :)

There is so much greenspace, wtf. We're renowned for that shit.

not really

why the fuck should I get my hands dirty doing fucking maintenance?
i'll leave that to a minimum wage scrub.

Explain where in the Constitution anyone has the "right" to food or healthcare or any other thing liberals want to give away for free by borrowing money from Jews.

Whaddup seattle

Is there at least an Anonymous mode like Myki in Victoria.
Also you can buy the cards on the bus here and use them right away, no bullshit registration needed.

This shit pissed me the fuck off too.
Just get an opal card though, it's cheaper than cash anyway in the long run.

>Why is this shit being pushed so hard?
Obvious tracking, how new are you?

dont bother, he still doesn't understand the difference between positive and negative rights

I'm pretty sure they do this shit because it lets them add $1 to your fare because they're selling you a new fare card and people tend to lose them.

they're just reloadable cards after all

You have to register...

Aus fag!! Did you see the stink USYD kids threw at the goverent requesting enrollment info to get a concession one?

Yeah what he said you breaking down fuck. Indigity must come naturally to a person such as yourself.

Was that the protest last semester?
I just took a nap on a beanbag in front of NAB

>Americans are discovering NFC public transport cards
>after discovering credit cards with chips and PIN codes

You just can't make this shit up.

>Explain where in the Constitution anyone has the "right" to food

No wonder your country is collapsing.

Pretty sure it states in your constitution that your currency is universally valid and acceptable.
Which makes denying your payment with cash a crime.

Check it, you may sue them over it.

hah, we don't even have chip and pin. it's chip and signature. the retailers don't care that signatures provide zero security, they're worried about saving ten seconds per transaction at the register.

>you may sue the Australian government

Yes, you may sue the government. That's what supreme courts are for.

...

Some UW student reversed engineered the ORCA system and was almost arrested. Apparently they used to store the dollar balance on the card itself (according to the guy), making it theoretically possible to create a spoofed card with unlimited rides.

Look up Farebot on Google Play (might be on F-Droid too since it's MIT licensed) for a proof of concept.

Also, Tacoma here. Get me out of this lower working class garbage neighborhood.

Where I live we have pin, but no chip. Banks are rolling it out chips en masse now though.

We have transport passes in NYC that are one time pay for unlimited uses for up to a whole month. You can still be tracked by them though, they digitally log each use.

Stop being such a Luddite. This shit is better than paper tickets in almost every conceivable way.

False.

Get used to it, electronic payments are tracked easier since every payment has your name tied to it. Give it a decade or two and you won't be able to pay with cash anywhere.

Thanks to EU funding, my city pushed the same kind of shit for public transportation, every card is tied to a bank account and they pretty much require to know all your personal details to get the card.

Regular ticket prices went up 3x and they obsoleted all the other means of getting tickets to make sure everyone buys one. Even children.

Normies didn't object to it, so now it's real.

The price went up because you live in a socialist shithole where unions ask and government oblige because muh votes. It has nothing to do with the means of payment.

Australia's government is LITERALLY composed of criminals, and their sons and daughters. What more did you expect?

They need to store the balance on the card so you can process it quickly in the bus even if the reader is in offline mode.

They also have a central database with all the card information and balances and they sync up data from the readers there. If they detect anything funny they just blacklist the card and/or contact the card owner. The blacklist gets synced up to the readers.

That's how they do it around my area at least.

Whatever the reason, the result is the same. It doesn't matter.

How do tourists buy tickets? My area has anonymous 10x tickets and day tickets designed for tourists.

>Give it a decade or two and you won't be able to pay with cash anywhere.

I can hear the muh enviroment arguments already.

constitutionalists are the worst kind of people. Why do you hold a document written by a bunch of wealthy rebels 250 years ago in such high regard? There is no way they could have forseen how the world would change in that time.

American reverence for their own history is astoundingly arrogant.

Because it saves you money and it saves the government money.

get an education in stochastic reasoning

>2016
>not cycling

Austria

god damn it, dude, it says NSW right there on the corner

New jersey south west?

I AM A FREEMAN ON THE LAND THIS MONETARY BILL IS A LEGALLY BINDING DOCUMENT IF YOU DON'T LET ME ON THIS BUS I WILL TAKE YOU TO THE SUPREME COURT AM I BEING DETAINED

>his public transport doesn't allow for contactless payment by your card

Shut up Richard

New World Order reptilian Nazi tracking system, the mark of the Beast 666.

Japan is almost entirely cash based, with the exception of IC cards for mass transit. Convenience stores and some major chains accept those same cards for purchases.

I never see anyone use them that way, but I sure as hell use them myself. Why would you not want the convenience of skipping cash and coin payments?

That's not an argument if you want to get things done then amend the constitution legally you day fuck
The constitution is directions for and why the government is what it is. It clearly delineates the differences between the people, the state(local government) and the federal government. It is our our founding document that outlines why the rules are the way they are. Issue we have is lawlessness and people making shit up when the constitution was written in plain English on purpose so laymen could understand.

To say that following the law is "ridiculous" is beyond arrogant and childish. Follow the amendment process or get fucked

what's up with his fingernails? is that a disease?

Ye

australia has trains?

Ikr

>retarded american believes that a company desiring more efficient boarding and fare collection is equal to an oppressive government

I guess you're the same guy behind this post Kill yourself

I notice I'm the only person around me that still pays cash.

Is this really what people want?
Never touching money again?

there you go

in many ways Australia is pretty much a dictatorship

Yes

retarded shitsatane, the bus does take cash.

pic fucking related, you see that god damn shoot there? you toss the coins in and you board.

stop being a fucking trackedtard and man up.

Because in third world countries, 99% of the population is just going to print the ticket.

psyprepping you for MoTB

>no compensation
lmao

they can literally switch off your money as soon you said something wrong. works extreme good in Ukraine where local jewligarch just switched of server in half million town and people had to vote his guy into mayor position or "our server crashed we need time to repair it" would go for month. took only 1 week when whole town came on their knees and voted his guy so they can finally get their salaries noted on accounts. people literally can use only his bank cards and it cost a ton of money to transfer it to other bank or into cash.

Even though it's convenient they literally keep a record of every single journey you have and this can be accessed by any member of staff who is permitted to use an oyster reader device

Makes me pretty paranoid desu

if you have nothing to hide, you have nothing to fear

>implying natural law is real
>implying the government's actual purpose is not to oppress and enslave
>implying "liberals" and "conservatives" aren't both set on doing that

I enjoy my privacy and having a smug member of staff observing that I get a certain night bus frequently even though unreleated to my query certainly violates that privacy

>having a smug member of staff observing that I get a certain night bus frequently

How does this affect you?
Do you think they're going to follow you home and stab you?
Do you think you're being gangstalked?

>you can't dislike things without having a good reason
