In Utah its legal, only one party to a conversation has to be aware of the recording, check your local laws, some states it is very illegal.

Those are the details that I don't get. How is it that there are so many laws about person to person recording either audio or video, but a business can record you without any regard to any rules they are free to do with those what they want including release them to police or media.

You could probably set up security cameras in the house if you own the property or have permission from the landlord.
