Hopefully never

I love seeing poorfags in distress.
Eat shit wagecuck

>tfw i had that same model but in 90gb
>bought it like 7 years ago
>finally gave up after my horrible and rampant abuse
best investment ever

>Fucking hell when do we get "cheap" 1tb (or even 512gb) SSDs?
You can get one for 300 bucks, that's cheap already.

Right now?
What are you, poor? Get a job, stop depending on neet bucks.

why would you need SSDs so large?
you're not planning to use them for storage are you?

>using an ssd with more than 128GB of capacity
SSD stands for Solid State Drive, this means that the data on it is meant for instant fast access.
HDD stands for Hard Disk Drive, in the current day and age these are used for storage.
if you didn't get it then move to reddit.

a 500gb samsung ssd is like 90 bucks OP.
just put em in a raid or something.

Sup Forums >>>>>>>

If you install windows you need like 4TB because of how bloated it is.

do you bollocks. what an absolute shower of shyte post that is.

>90 bucks

Fucking jelly. In my country it goes for like 180-190 bucks.
A 128gb one is closer to 90.

I wonder if Kingdian SSD's are worth it, because I'm seriously considering getting one.

I've had a 1TB SSD for 2.5 years now.

techreport.com/news/29583/mushkin-previews-a-500-4tb-ssd-at-ces

Where the fuck is the SSD Mushkin promised? Is it just vaporware now?

t. poorfag

closer to 40GB, but I agree, windows on an SSD is hard to pull off.

>you're not planning to use them for storage are you?

This is the stupidest meme ever. The only reason why we don't use SSD for everything is because the larger capacity ones are too expensive.

Why the fuck would you want to use a much slower and noisy outdated technology such as HDDs if you could buy a 1TB SSD for 80 bucks?

boggles my mind why bits of plastic and metal is >100 dollars

oh yea because people are fucking retarded and want shiney shit

HDDs last longer, and you don't need 500MB/s for media or backups.

Of course I don't need it. But if I could get those speed at the same price at a regular HDD, why the fuck would I settle with the inferior technology.

Magnetic tapes last longer than HDD, and no one use them because HDD are superior is every other way.

1TB is ~$200 today. 6 years ago, $200 was what you paid for 64GB.

Because writes slowly kill flash memory.

Same fucking shit with Hard Drives too. Do you think mechanical bearings last forever?

So what. If you use it purely for storage purposes, you will only write it once.

If you don't, just backup your shit like you should anyway and buy a new SSD when it dies after 10 years.

Full retard

and the magnetic drive spinning around isn't subject to wear and tear?
Wake the fuck up, a properly designed and built SSD will survive it's expected obsolescence (you will change it because something better comes along, not because it died) unless you're a retard that runs a full capacity benchmark every week, you will never wear out the drive.

Buy two chinks Kingdians S280 for $60 each and Raid0 them, for that price, you could just buy more if they break, just do your monthly backup.

>gets $300 a month from the government
>thinks he's rich

>nless you're a retard that runs a full capacity benchmark every week, you will never wear out the drive.

Samsung's makes enterprise SSD's that can withstand 5 years of constantly rewriting itself with no downtime.

Yes, but very very slowly. We're talking decades of heavy usage here.
SSD's write cycles will outlive all of your hard drives.

The limit on HDD head movements is actually lower

Literally right now.
Just look at what the prices were six months ago.

>but its not the prices i want it to be!
You're a fucking moving target. Go fuck yourself.

yeah, they are dropping pretty fast in price.
just keep running the SSD+HDD setup for a few more years and you'll get your cheap 1 TB SSDs

No, but they last longer.

its not like people sit there with solders and monocles. they press a button and assembly machines spit them out like your mother with your uncles semen.

its jew shilling at its finest, just like your gypsy mother and her lustrious islamic following.

if humans put any real work towards all else but the initial design and robot arm programming, it is to assemble random bits like legos, which any braindead vegetable, such as your mother, could do in their semen-induced coma.

yep im a poorfag with a 960 gb ssd and the 1080 gpu.
Try some other reply user as thats a mile off

Depends which hdd you get, some are terrible, I admit to buying an external one for films and music and it died within 18 months, think it was seagate one.

I would recommend against it. Had two Kingston SSDs in my laptop for school and they both died within a year. Kingston's RMA process is shit to replace it as well. Best to go with something better, I prefer Samsung or Crucial

Yea I bought a couple of 500GB Samsung 850 EVO's from Jet dot com when they ran that one promo. Ended up being around $100 per drive.

saw this ad in my gamepro magazine pls mom can i have?! its 80 whole gigabytes for ONLY 99 burgers!

Come on mom pleeeease, how about just the memory sticks. i mean its five HUNDRED and TWELVE thingys for only 60 peices of paper!!! come one momma please can i have it

"Best Value, Always!" - newegg 2003

>I have no idea how semiconductor fabrication works, so I'll just make disk jokes, that'll show'em

My HDD is now, by far, the loudest component in my system. I value a quiet computer, and so do a significant number of other computer enthusiasts. Just because you don't care about noise, doesn't mean there aren't people out there waiting for SSD prices to become more competitive against HDD in terms of gb/$

stay salty my man

>semiconductor fabrication
You mean the robot arms that print out liquid metal on a pcb, literally kill yourself after you're done suckling on corporation teets

>have to buy mum a new laptop
>most laptops STILL come with a conventional HDD
>no affordable 15.6" fanless laptops
2016 is a meme. Everything still sucks.

I make 74k a year and have a skillset you couldn't come close to matching. Enjoy my tax dollars, I don't even need them.

>74k a year
i doubt that's a skillset that anyone can't come close to matching.

Thats probably because user who posted really is 14 and lives at home with mummy and daddy

Or perhaps I think I'm better at my career than a loser who collects welfare all day?

doesn't mean whoever you think is on welfare (projecting?) wouldn't be able to do it.

People like you dont even realize that by the time SSDs are """cheap""" something else, something better will be out and you will then ask for that to be """cheap""" instead. Sometimes I really ask myself if you guys are completely fucking retarded or simply pretend to be with your requests.

Shit quality bait right there.

He literally said he was a neet and called us wagecucks you fucking retard

I guess welfare is like claiming dole. I dont know mate I have worked for the past 22 years since leaving uni.
Oh and 74k pre tax is pretty shit desu, im not sure how you think you are in the elite earners.

he said he wasn't a wagecuck, not a neet.

do you think there's no alternative to working the same dead end job for years whilst living paycheck to paycheck?

>74k is paycheck to paycheck
This board is literally populated with 12 year olds that lie about making $300,000 a year.

I worked out after tax and then converting your $ into £ youre takehome is 40k.
I earned that much working in a shop being a manager sat on my arse watching twitch and reading shit like this all day

Did I say I was an elite earner? I said I made more than a neet. This is literally my first year with this company. You just be making less if it rustled your jimmies.

im talking about the definition of wagecuck. Holy shit you are retarded.

No your post cried of how you thought it was some monumental amount as you have some kind of skillsets nobody here could match.
Thats a pretty big call which I think is a load of crap.

You're a loser with no job. Seems like you're the retarded one here buddy. Go beg for some government welfare you fucking loser.

I was speaking directly to the fucking person I quoted, who was a neet. I guarantee you I'm better at what I do than an unemployed piece of shit. Fuck off kids.

I earn like $10 million every month just sitting on my ass.

>admits to being in 1st year of his shit job
>calls others kids.

>my dad's richer than you!
Should've just titled this as the cringe thread

Because i know the basic meanings behind the words I read and don't sperg out I'm on welfare too? This is really starting to seem like projection.

I used to be a 'wagecuck' working at a shoe store as a clerk, it was bad. I've moved on since then, I have a job I'm happy with and as a result am no longer a 'wagecuck'.

Is it starting to get through your thick skull yet?

damn bro youre rolling in the dough .. 74k a year (before taxes) is big bucks my man .. you show these poorfags who's the boss!

I'm sure you're making a lot more buddy. Maybe if you clean up your empty McDonald's cups you'll earn enough good boy points to get that new graphics card!

I bet you he still live with his mum & dad though as well!
The guy is a tool, id love to work with this prick

If the prices continue in the direction they do now, SSDs will be cheaper than HDDs sometime early 2019.

thank you for ending the shitshow that was taking place over the last 30 posts

I think hdd's will react by getting even cheaper though. I gaurantee there's a lot of headroom there, price/tb has barely moved for hdd's over the past several years, and you think they haven't cut corners or become easier to fab? pfft..

HDD prices have barely moved the last 10 years. I doubt they can squeeze much more capacity out of the processes.

"Faggot not getting the obvious sarcasm"

hahaha damn, rich and funny as fuck!! weeeeew you got it all sport .. im so fucking jelly, goddamn!

Rich with time > wagecucking with money

what a shitpost fest this thread turned into

let me help you guys by adding one more peice of shit to g fucking die all of you

if 64 gb can fit on a microSD how come we cant have good ssd sizes?

I agree with this, but I think they are selling them for way above what they still cost to fab now. I think the price/tb will decrease dramatically and we'll see more applications as glacier storage, backups, and dirt cheap alternatives for people who need tons of storage for low cost in general. I don't think Magnetic Tape will be in danger though, I just think that for most consumers and some small enterprises HDD's will still be more viable for this.

microSD has the same price/gb as ssd anyway.

Kingdian, not Kingston.

Kingdian is a chick brand.

Chink, not chick.

chick is a bird and/or female.

Have two 512gb SSDs in a raid 1 for programs and a pair of 4tb Seagate SSHDs in a raid 1 for storage.

I'm pretty satisfied with the setup.

512 GB solid states are pretty cheap at this point.

They are getting more mainstream even in average comouters and prebuilts, so the prices are coming down. Give it a year or two and I bet you can get decent 1TB ones under $200.

>Hey Sup Forums I make lots of money
>My skill set is so much better than everyone
>Wait stop making fun of me
>Damage control
>Fuck you all

Still waiting for cheap 10-20TB drives to store all my porn and it's backup.

I dunno I am pretty fucking poor (I make around 200$ a month) and I have 2x256GB SSD in RAID0?

How poor are you OP?
No neetbux will ever be able to buy a HDD or SSD. Companies don't sell shit for free.

not everyone lives with their parents for free

wow man you have some fucking shitty parents for sure

Wew lad

actually SSDs last longer

>HDDs last longer
lol

Bullshit. The new Samsung SSD's will outlive you lol.

850pro and above are rated at insane overall writes before they die. And they can take physical abuse without going to Shit unlike hdd's

Ssds are better at everything except price at the moment.

most people's parents think life is easy and full of opportunities and affordable housing like when they were growing up. they are out of touch with reality. fucking baby boomers dont even realize they ruined everything.

Other people would just rather move out from their parents, and those who get to choose are the most well off.

> Fucking hell when do we get "cheap" 1tb (or even 512gb) SSDs?
Already has happened. SSD around 500GB are now like $110 or so.

Shit, that's really fucking cheap.

> most people's parents think life is easy and full of opportunities
well, that's what watching TV does to you.

We are slowly becoming like the Japanese.
We will be forced to have a multi-generational household, because no one can really afford a new house.

My sister lived with my parents until she was like 36. She saved up almost all her money, and only now (at the age of 36) was able to buy a house (with a loan).

Fucking lol.
That's one thing though, they also fucked up pension here in the former Soviet Bloc. Father has been working since he was 12, he has paperwork and all that, and yet he is still forced to work.
Which he loves, but still.

For me / the generations after him, there will be no pension. gg

>implying this isn't cheap

> fucking baby boomers dont even realize they ruined everything.
Well, theoretically they did something okay and kept difficult economies going and made them stronger.

They didn't mess up completely. But of course the snag is most people seem to get too little and some too much (mostly those whose parents were rich).

Leave it to the baby boomers to run out social security and establish a corporatocracy. They fucked up miserably.

Um depending on where you live $74k is nothing I'd run around bragging about.

There are guys delivering Budweiser beer in every state and making more than that with a little overtime.

samsung.
ive had my samsung for about 5 years now. so far so good

I got my San Disc 512gb for 120 2 months ago, you just gotta watch the sales. Stay on newegg mailers list too.

I'm predicting that 960gb/1tb drives will hit $150 by the end of this year/after Black Friday. I've seen this trend personally with my SSD shopping over the last three years.

On 2013 I paid $120 or so on a 128gb Crucial M4. On 2014, I paid $150 for a new 256gb Crucial M550 for my sister's laptop. On 2015 I bought a 512gb Micron M600 for $150 for a Christmas present. I got a 960gb Sandisk Ultra II just a week ago at $215. So that rate, a $150 1tb SSD from Crucial shouldn't be too far off, that's when I'm sticking them in anything critical in my house.
