Get fucked

I can get a used note 4 for ~$180.

I still plan on using my iphone 5s as my real phone but using the note 4 as a notepad / grocery list / ideas pad on the go.

I figure it's new enough hardware wise to work just fine for a few years and the spen to take little ideas/things I need would be easier than other methods of keeping them.

2015 Moto G is about to be an hero and I want a 1440p phone for muh VR so

>Axon 7
or
>S7

Is S7 worth the extra 200?

>youtube.com/watch?v=571pu66vEBc

>Samsung Note 7

ZTE is notorious for not supporting their products but it's also cheap.

with Axons they started this whole "flag ship" thing and maybe they will actually support them this time around.

Xperia Z5 Premium
>$240ish
>high res (to a useless degree)
>waterproof
>bootloader unlock, if I dare
>SD810, 2015 release

Galaxy Note Edge
>$180ish
>s-pen
>replaceable/expandable battery
>SD805, 2014 release

I'm wondering what kind of performance difference there would be, given these are a year apart. And since the Note Edge is from 2014, how long would it continue to get updated?

I'm considering a Note myself, but why bother juggling two devices? Why not just switch to the Note completely? Especially if you feel it'll be that useful in the first place.

Threadly reminder that you literally have autism if you need more than 64GB storage in a phone

What if I'm just lazy? With a16GB iPhone I always have to delete stuff and transfer photos/video to free up space.

I've already bought a $40 128GB microSD so that when I switch to Android soon I won't need to bother with that kind of maintenance.

about to get a Honor 5X tomorrow
anyone know if CM13 supports the fingerprint sensor on the phone?

this

gear vr is pretty much best vr headset so probably in your case.

About to move to android from iphone. What I don't get is software updates. Who handles them? In apple the iphone did it, but with android it seems that sometimes the carrier has to be involved or something like that.

At the moment, yes. Axon 7 is Google Daydream ready though but dunno about ZTE VR headset availability.

S7 seems perfect (no front speakers tho) but 700€ is so damn much. Guess you get what you pay for.

go for the Z5, user. Unless you actually need the note functionality, it's a meme. Z5 maybe be officially updated for longer, and is probably usable one-handed.

Also people in public will approve of your choice and be more friendly to you. If you choose the disgusting korean gook shit, they'll treat you like the dirty gaijin you are.

depends on what version on the phone you get.
if you get a samsung, samsung handles them.
if you get a carrier locked samsung, the carrrier handles them.
if you get a nexus, google handles them, and you get the updates first since they control android themselves.

Is the OnePlusX worth it for a poorfag like me?

what's your criteria of the perfect smartphone?

seems ok
dunno if it'll be updated any more though. you'l have to go the way of cyanogenmod. see if it'll work or if people are reporting problems with it.

Where's the hype for the Redmi Pro Mini?

Just got a Moto G4. How fucked am I and what to do to unfuck myself?

>The performance issues aren't just limited to benchmarks. Motorola's previous phones provided a smooth experience despite their limited specifications, and the Moto G4 and G4 Plus are significantly jankier throughout the UI, with even the simplest of ListViews stuttering at times.

>This is most certainly an issue of software rather than hardware, and stability issues with tests like PCMark battery don't inspire any confidence in the Moto G4's software quality either.

>Couple that with Motorola refusing to commit to monthly security updates and there's a lot of reason to be concerned about whether the Moto G4 is ever going to get to a state where it's performant and secure.

>Ultimately, I don't think the Moto G4 is a bad smartphone, but the Huawei Honor 5X provides an equally good experience and has been widely available since the start of the year. The Moto G4 has just arrived too late to be relevant.

>As we move toward the end of 2016 and into 2017, there are going to be new mid-range devices at these prices that greatly surpass the performance, camera, and build quality of the Moto G4, and even right now there are better options available.

anandtech.com/show/10514/the-motorola-moto-g4-and-g4-plus-review/7

so if I get an unlocked xperia compact z5 sony handles them?

So no way to unfuck myself?

Also, the Honor phone doesn't have any protection on the glass, so I don't know if that counts.

Return it, dummy.

I can't.

I want to get the iphone 7 because I value performance and a lag free experience with their OS more than specs paper.
The audio jack is a bummer though.
I might as well look into android

>Is nexus the iphone of android in terms of non compromise performance?

I've got 199 to spend and the Nexus 5x is almost perfect imo, except that it's just too big. Is there a smaller phone with a similar price point and specs that has good support on XDA so I can flash android N onto it?

Failing that, what's the best case for a N5x?

Have some art for ya trouble

Yup.

>Is nexus the iphone of android in terms of non compromise performance?

Usually, yeah. You should wait for Marlin and Sailfish reviews though.

I've heard good things from friends about flashing stock android or custom kernels to Samsung hardware though. Samsung has the best hardware far and away, but they fuck it up with the worst software possible.

I got a good seriously rugged phone suggestion the other day. I forgot to bookmark it.

Does anyone know which one it was or something similar? The post included several youtube video tests how it withstood being run over by a truck, hammering with the screen side on a nail, dropped face down, being watertight and such. I think the price was 200 or 300 USD with decent overall specs and a big battery. Case was typical rugged with angled sides.

I checked OP but I couldn't find it.

Using s6 atm, wife uses the s7. Only notable difference is hers is waterproof (it lives up to the hype) and mine is not. Have tried both in Samsung Gear VR: no notable difference but then again I'm not a sensitive man baby when it comes to that shit. It's a little blurry on both phones and is certainly no full vr headset but it's pretty immersive after you get comfy and focus in on the VR environment, again neither phone in my opinion performed better here. The only major downside for using s7 or s6 for VR is that it OBLITERATES battery life because the phones become housefire material after about 20 minutes of use.

So what I'm saying is, get a galaxy s6, a lifeproof case, and a fire extinguisher. Shit is cash. Also the s6 back camera is a little better on wee details in photos and videos and it is kinda noticable.

Sorry m8t, don't know anything abot axiom.

Trips confirms based dumbass.

What would be a good price for a phone like this?

only rugged phones that come to mind are the CAT s50 and Moto X/Z force.

BV6000?

youtube.com/watch?v=pyX2dtrVlJ0

banggood.com/Blackview-BV6000-4_7-inch-IP68-Waterproof-3GB-RAM-MTK6755-Octa-core-4G-Smartphone-p-1061571.html

Probably won't wort on American carriers though. the CAT phone is a good choice too with compatibility too.

Also since we're on the topic of things to do with smartphones: I just bought a bluetooth mouse and a while back bought a bluetooth keyboard for mine. Galaxy S6, it's pretty neato. The mouse was super cheap so wasn't sure if it would work but I'm using it now and my only complaint is that it's a tad laggy but only by fractions of a second, but that's no bother, as I didn't get it to do anything face paced. Mostly got it for when I'm in the field or away from home, I can just pack a little back with the mouse and keyboard and it functions like a little tablet without having spent the money to buy a hole laptop or tablet for the sake of travel and field work.

I also just did it to see if it would work, what it feels like, all that, the keyboard is the Logitech Keys to Go and the mouse is the Black Web BWB15HO213.

Anyone else here tried this on theirs?

I can't stand Samsung anymore though. I had a s5 for some time now and it's unbearable slow.
I'm not that into flashing but I should give it a try I guess.
I want consistent updates without having to do much myself to be honest

Who else think the new Nexus devices (Sailfish and Marlin) will turn out to be massive let-downs?

Why would they leave it to HTC to make them?

*bag, *whole. Also because it's faster and easier to write on the keyboard, a little easier to navigate with the mouse, although I am still prone to typing error as the keys are surprisingly difficult to tap. This is actually good also if the wife wants to use our main computer for work, school, games and I have other shit to do that I can get done on my phone.

Would the Sony Xperia XA be a good all-round device for casual use in [current year]? Country: Belgium / Carrier: Base

I just ordered Xiaomi Mi 4c. Did I do good, Sup Forums?

What is the best android phone with a home button for under $300? (battery is also an important factor)
I was thinking redmi note 3 pro, but I might be wrong.

I was looking at it too last week, pls make sure to write a mini review once you have it. I'm very interested in your experience with the device c:

Can do. Will get it on Tuesday.

Are iphones good phones for technically challenged people/simpletons to use?

That's their target audience.

> Are iphones good phones for technically challenged people/simpletons to use?

In other words people who can't be fucked to learn the simple concept of remembering where to find applications back.

My dad has a iPhone for years, still barely knows how it works.

Honestly they're better off with a dumbphone or a Android because at least then they don't have to bother with a ITunes account.

I am paralyzed with choice. I'm going to be upgrading from a Blackberry Q10 (that I'm really disappointed with) to some kind of Android device (my first Android phone ever) within the next year or so.

Right now my top choices are the S7, the HTC 10 and the OP3. Sell me on one of them, god damn it.

check cyanogenmod

They're little computers, chances are they'll only be as good as the way you treat them. If you sperg into it all your loli porn so you can watch it on the go, it will not work well, regardless of what phone you buy.

I'm personally partial to Samsung because of the camera, but frankly iphones have better cameras, but I am unfamiliar with the OS and don't like change so I cope with what I have.

NEW NEXUS WHEN

I'm in the same boat, aren't there any recommendations?

Also, no chinkshit please, I don't want to get the nickname hotpants.

>CyanogenMod sources have still not fixed bluetooth almost 3 years later
Really don't want to go back to stock since no one has done a custom stock for my phone, but I think I don't really have a choice anymore.

fine for casual use

but there are also many other phones available that would also be fine for casual use. so unless that phone is your only choice, shop around.

honor 5x is the best that i could find. it doesn't have great specs but one level up's are $300-$350 and not that great, e.g. nexus 5x and s4-5

>Also, no chinkshit please

SD616 and SD617 practically identical.
At least with the Moto you get clean android and not the chink skin.

>copying iphone before it is even out
bravo chinks

see also every reviewer plays asphalt for 15 minutes then says it's heating. desu if it's not heating up in a 30 min video it's more than ok, gaming in phones is weird.

Talking about this subject, how much can phones really handle. I've heard about phones reaching temperatures of 50*C.

I thought the HTC one and the 10 got good reviews?

It looks like it's just gonna be an up-spec'd 10.

If it has a shatterproof screen like the moto x force, I'll sell a kidney to buy one at launch.

you in nippon, bro?

me too.

I'm going fully chink tho, RN3P

>If requesting purchasing advice, please provide your country and what carrier you will be using it with, along with wanted features, budget and size.

I'm on the west coast US, if I went out to some local store and grabbed some normie phone which are the best options to look for?

I'm not sure what carrier to look for either; I've never had a smart phone but am about to come around to being able to afford one soon so I'm just kind of looking for something basic-but-not-shit to get a handle on 'em before I look to replace it with something super quality.

Suggestions?

HTC sells overpriced shit.
They try too hard to be premium.

The HTC 10 is almost 100€ more expensive than a Samsung S7, which you can get from time to time for 499€.

Looking at the leaked pictures, the design is mind-blowing shit with huge bezels with a very ugly backcover and furthermore they feature nothing new, other than the standard 820 Snapdragon and just a Vanilla Android 7.0.X OS.

They will sell Marlin for 600-700€ here, that's for sure.
Not to forget that there is no micro-SD slot.

I don't know why anyone would buy it, when there is OP3 for 400 bucks, and enough custom roms out there, and a big enough community that will deliver roms with the most recent Android version.

amazon.com/dp/B01H2E0KVA/

The 2/16 version is a good and cheap smertphone for a first timer.

Oh nice, that looks like it'll work just fine, thanks.

Make sure it's the "16 GB Storage + 2 GB RAM - Standard Version - Without Offers & Ads" version without the Amazon crapware..

>Nexus 6P 64GB
>LG G5
>ZTE Axon 7
>OnePlus 3

All are around $400 in my country.

What do I get?

>Mini
>5.2" screen

Please respond!

iPhone fag here. Just smashed my iPhone 6 last night and am finally putting my contract upgrade to use. I'm with Telus in Canada and wanted features are just an all around good Android phone so my first Android isn't a shit experience. I Snapchat a lot, so a nice camera is a bonus. The 2 options I see on here that look good are the Nexus 6P and the Galaxy S7 Edge. An opinions?

S7, 6P is a last gen phone.

Dont, buy only S models of any iphone.

Is it a good deal?

OP3

Why the 2/16 version? the 3/32 is extra $20

Thanks man, appreciate the long post.

I was thinking of S6, especially when there's a deal for S6 + Gear VR for 499€. The only thing that kinda worried me was the battery life (S6 2550mAh vs S7 3000mAh). Waterproofness is a nice plus but definitely not a vital feature for me.

what about taxes, isn't there any?

>SD810
Don't get that house fire chip. Note edge is the objectively better choice.

Depends. where do you live?

SD810 has terribly inconsistent performance which make it barely any better than the 805.

The note edge is 2 years old by this point and will not get nougat. It should however continue receiving security patches for 1 more year.

Don't even bother with OnePlus. They do not honor warranties reliably. Also, HTC phones cannot be repaired. Avoid them as well.

What's a good phone with removable battery and sd?
