Due to recent events, I have approximately $2000 to spend on a new gaming machine, the goal of which is to have a machine that can run high quality VR. And vidya. And developer shit. So kind of an all arounder, but VR needs to fucking happen.
Last time I asked here, I was checking out a Razer laptop with an EGPU. Specs were respectable, reviews were good and I liked the idea of a powerful machine I could just plug in at home and play anything and everything.
Well, then I happened along pic related. That is an AIO machine with user serviceable, discrete components, all tucked into a 34" curved 3440x1440 display. Considering I'm going for a monitor upgrade anyways, this is tempting. I've customized the default build as follows, for a price of $2546. I could probably shave $500 off by tiering down on the memory and GPU.
>Skorpion K1 Mechnical Gaming Keyboard w/ blue switches (this is free, I can't not get a keyboard) >Gaming Chassis: 34" Curved Ultra WQHD Screen with 3440 x 1440 Resolution Gaming AIO >CPU: Intel® Core™ Processor i56600K 3.50GHz 6MB Intel Smart Cache LGA1151 (Skylake) >Freebies: Intel 2K Game Bundle – Discount Code to Save up to 85% on 2K Game Bundle >CPU / Processor Cooling Fan: LOOP AIO CPU Liquid Cooling system [+98] >Motherboard: GIGABYTE GAZ170NGAMING 5 ITX w/ 802.11ac Wi Fi + BT, Killer GbLAN, USB 3.1, 1 >PCIe x16, 2 SATA >Express, 6 SATA3, 1 Ultra M.2 [+12] >RAM: 32GB (16GBx2) DDR4/2800MHz Dual Channel Memory (Corsair Vengeance LPX) >Video Card: GeForce® GTX 1070 8GB GDDR5 >PSU: Builtin 450 Watts 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Power Supply >Hard Drive: 480GB Intel 540s Series SATAIII 6.0Gb/s SSD 560MB/s Read & 480MB/s Write (Single .Drive) >Sound: HIGH DEFINITION ONBOARD 7.1 AUDIO >Internal Network Card: Onboard Gigabit LAN Network >Mouse: CyberpowerPC Standard 4000 DPI with Weight System Optical Gaming Mouse >USB: Builtin 2 x USB 2.0 ports
I see one killer here, and that's USB2. And only two ports at that, which means I'd have to run everything through a hub...

>$2500 for an i5 and 1070
I was able to shop around and get an i7 6800k and 1080 for under $1900. Unless the novelty of the aio is worth almost $1k to you, just get a tower. You should be able to fill an ncase m1 with a 6700k and gtx1080 for less than that even after getting a high res ultrawide monitor if you want something almost as sleek and compact.
But an aio with that much shit in it is pretty neat so do you senpai.
Ian Scott
that pic related is a retarded and pointless idea. Who ever thought it's a good idea to shove everything inside a monitor? Makes no fucking sense at all. Just a gimmick to impress CS girls.
Xavier Harris
They will catch you, Kashawn
Wyatt Thomas
retarded and pointless *how*?
Levi Edwards
Dont fucking do it user.
Trust me, 6 months after you buy it you'll regret it.
Connor Garcia
The absolute cheapest I can find a curved 32" display at that resolution (without dipping into no-name trash) is $799.
Lots of fags here giving vague warnings without any concrete issues.
What precisely is the issue with this build?
Leo Rogers
Nothing really. Except these AIO monitor cases must be sold somewhere and if you find one you'll be able to build it cheaper.
There is QuietPC Mono AIO case for $260, which is exactly the same thing, but they are only 27 inches.
Joshua Allen
Buy used 3930k and Asus P8X79 Pro, Deluxe or WS (or X79-E WS), plus used GTX 980. RAM you can buy new. For PSU take Seasonic Platinum 660w, any of the Super Flower Leadex psu's or EVGA Supernova G2 650w.
And no, you cant squeze decent monitor into that price, especially if going with new parts, which you should not.
Jayden Clark
Damn, i should have read OP. Well, dont blame me, it looked like exact replica of WHATPARTSTOBUY threads, of which millions appear every day on Sup Forums.
Adrian Jones
That sounds pricey for an i5/1070 build, even with the included monitor. In practical terms, the AIO format brings you absolutely nothing except restrictions to what you can add/customize. You can probably do better by building a regular PC and buying a regular monitor.
Ayden Allen
>these AIO monitor cases must be sold somewhere Not really, I mean there are AIO Monitor cases, but they're bulbous and shit out the back. The thing he wants to buy is using a lot of laptop tricks, if you get me, to keep everything pretty much flush.
I assume you know you're paying for the novelty of a PC in your monitor. If you've got two grand to drop on something that ridiculous, I doubt the only added benefit of 'saving space' means anything to you. There isn't anything we can tell you, OP, cop it if you think it's dope enough... but you can get more for less.
Brayden Sullivan
>not including the monitor fucking idiot
Christopher Baker
Wow, so hostile. My point is he could easily have an i7 6700k and a 1080 WITH that class of monitor for the same price or less as that i5 +1070 AIO
Carson Lewis
The monitor allone is worth about 800€/$
Carter Sanders
do you really want a meme screen? I wonder how noisy this thing is
Camden James
>why build a normal desktop PC when you can spend twice to have it inside a shitty giant monitor kek
Landon Clark
You will always be better off going with a desktop.
You can easily get a 6600k, 1070 setup for 1400, even in Europe. And I even bought a 512GB 850PRO SSD with that. For 2000 you should easily be able to upgrade CPU and get at least one 1080.
Cooper Kelly
>2k rig >i5 >1070
Dominic Davis
>break screen / comes with dead pixel and stuff >have to replace the whole computer
Samuel Diaz
for that money you should just go mini itx and get a better cpu/gpu
but if you like fucking awful things its your money.
Jack Hughes
I got basically that setup with that monitor size/resolution for $1600 in a small tower
Samuel Morales
>everybody harps on the specs which could be marginally better and ignores the $800 display
David Allen
>I was able to shop around and get an i7 6800k and 1080 for under $1900
Add $800 for the screen.
You mean this butt ugly thing?
Hudson Fisher
OP here:
From a pure specs standpoint, sure, but is there that much of a difference between the 1070 and the 1080 or the i5 and the i7? It seems like you drop a boatload of cash for a marginal upgrade.
Jaxon Foster
It's gonna be covered up and literally behind the screen you autist
Wyatt Thomas
The top bracket is fucking BENT and the airflow is shit.
