>buy a UV-5R radio >see driver nightmares on Windows 8/10 >try installing prolific drivers, no matter what I always get error 10, just not werkingTM >muck around for an hour >try on Fedora and SUSE >plug in >automagically detects baofeng programming cable, assigns correct port >only thing I didn't notice from the start is that you need kdesu/gksudo to run the COM port >instantly recognizes and has no problem cloning
Windows, even for obscure software and hobbies (which was supposed to be its strong point) like HAM, still continues to be shit. Sasuga Nutella.
Windows is shit.
Benjamin Campbell
Linux is good for old autistic tech, what else is new
Ethan Lewis
Wasn't that Windows' forte?
John Jackson
>winbabby trying to actually paint superior hardware support as a bad thing
Elijah Parker
"Linux has no drivers" is a huge meme.
"Windows just works" is possibly an even bigger meme.
Windows in a VM for testing malware, Linux for everything else.
Jonathan Robinson
>"Linux has no drivers" is a huge meme.
Linux has shitty drivers though
>"Windows just works" is possibly an even bigger meme.
It's the closest thing out there
>Windows in a VM for testing malware, Linux for everything else.
hahaha, funny
Cooper Rivera
Not defending Windows (I also use Linux with my UV-82), but you bought a knockoff cable.
Grayson Bennett
Windows 10 won't even boot on my laptop. Fuck off shill.
Jace Anderson
>Windows 10
Install windows 7 like a reasonable person
Joshua Fisher
>Linux has shitty drivers though maybe not for your shitty gaymen rig. Linux doesnt have proprietary drivers for graphics cards but dominates in drivers for large machinery, small robotics, printers and non-standard peripherals.
>It's the closest thing out there Besides Debian based distros....
Wincuck pls
Xavier Watson
>Windows 7 >Takes 25 - 30 seconds to boot >even longer to shut down
fuck that bloated shit
Jason Moore
>Linux doesnt have proprietary drivers for graphics cards
Who uses graphic cards anyway, everybody is still on vt100 terminals, right?
>but dominates in drivers for large machinery, small robotics, printers and non-standard peripherals.
Because the average person has a 5 axes cnc machine in their basement.
Nicholas Harris
>Everyone needs to have GTX 1080s with full nVidia cancerware bloating the shit out of the PC, That's simply not the case for people with jobs. The Intel integrated graphics work fine.
>Because the average person has a 5 axes cnc machine in their basement. read OP cuck, anyone who actually uses computers for anything other than a toy knows Linux is the vastly Superior choice
Grayson Miller
>read OP cuck, anyone who actually uses computers for anything other than a toy knows Linux is the vastly Superior choice
Constantly changing your window manager is a vastly superior activity
Julian Garcia
"original costs close to $20, I got mine that works fo"r $2
Wyatt Anderson
No shit. But if you had actually read about "driver nightmares on Windows 8/10" then you would have known you either need to buy the real cable or use the older driver build with the knockoff cable
This has nothing to do with Windows vs Linux. This is a user problem.
Brayden Adams
It works because you used different driver you autist.
Joshua Morales
>Constantly changing your window manager is a vastly superior activity no, plugging something and having it actually work is vastly superior :^)
Jackson Flores
>no, plugging something and having it actually work is vastly superior :^)
So Windows is vastly superior then?
Isaiah Garcia
I wanted to interject to explain something to you. Lunix lusers generally find a favorite window manager and stick with it. I know it can be confusing, but Anonymous is not actually a single person.
I prefer fluxbox and DWM. Less is more, IMO.
Luis Roberts
Did you even read what the OP posted?
William White
Yeah, and he is a liar like every linux user on the internet. The few times I've ever had driver problems with windows was with noname chink shit. Really horrible stuff. And I was still able to get the drivers from some chink site. Meanwhile your typical user wants a fully working computer, and while linux has a vast selection of drivers, they are missing features most of the time. I'm on Linux now btw.
Lucas Cox
>only thing I didn't notice from the start is that you need kdesu/gksudo to run the COM port If you add your user to the group that owns the serial port (probably dialout), you won't need to do this in the future.
sudo usermod -a -G dialout [username]
Be sure to log out and back in for it to take effect.
Levi Murphy
> and he is a liar like every linux user on the internet. >[....] >I'm on Linux now btw
Gabriel Harris
No need, not like I'll be connecting it all the time.
Adam Smith
it doesn't work with millions of webcams causing millions of problems, again
why go there it's utter, utter shit
Michael Bailey
>webcams Is it 2001 again
Gabriel Fisher
I guess it's very important to attentionwhores.
Parker White
First this : and than: >have a usb stick with portable linux distro >plug it in ~50 PC/laptops >graphics, sound, Ethernet and Wlan always work without any problems.
While on windows: >plug in wlan dongle >automatic driver installation fails >have to search them.........
Now who has the best driver support?
Noah Harris
Windows's forte is and always was data mining, gayming, and FUCK MY WINDOS TEN AUTO ABDATED ITSLF WTF I HATE WINDES NOW XDDDD
