Welcome to America, home of the free, land of the burger. Clap clap.

AM I UNDER ARREST ?
AM I UNDER ARREST ?
AM I UNDER ARREST ?

1. What's the point? Now I have to play this game for two hours to unlock the machine when I want to use it. I've just fucked myself over.

2. How does this stop anyone who's really trying to break in? They can spend a couple hours playing a game to get into your laptop if they really want to get in.

3. The game needs to have access to the encryption key to put it into the encrypted system when you win, at the very least it needs to be able to derive the encryption key from some other set of functions. This means now the game itself is a weak point, decompiling and other attacks launched directly at the game may give them an avenue to get the key text they previously didn't have access to, outside of you telling it to them.

The only situation I can see this being useful is if somebody asks you to decrypt the laptop AND it's a time critical situation AND they believe you when you say "It would involve playing this roguelike here for two hours" AND they decide it's not worth the effort and to just let you through instead of going to all the hassle of trying to deal with your system.

(Excluding of course some situation where your game is partially or entirely hard coded into your processor, in the style of the Intel Management Engine so they can't access it's internal workings whatsoever, but that requires resources nobody on this Russian syringe making forum has access to).

Thanks for the reply I deleted my post assuming it was wasting thread space

You were right.

I appreciate the detailed response though

The password is an easy guess sir.
If you werent such a normalfag then i would've given it to you. Go and proceed installing Gentoo on your PC.

no

wait... is this actually real?

Yeah, and if you refuse to tell them your password they have a right to destroy your laptop/phone/tablet and even put you in jail. Land of the free, amirite?

Yeah. They also ask you to unlock your phone so they can copy everything to their computers using some special software.

only if you look like a terrorist
just shave before you go on a trip and you will be fine.

fake it's 27 years

This happens in the UK too.

Well with the UK's equivilent agencies, yes.
But the UK does have more anti-liberty 'holding without charge' laws and no 5th amendment.
It's also illegal to withhold encryption keys, and the GCHQ has less laws getting in the way of their gestapo activities.

What happens if I refuse to do this? Will I get sent on a flight back home?

No CP or anything, but I have source code lying on it and I've signed a NDA that forbids me from showing it to anyone.

Uh sure... My password is "BOMBONPLANEGIVEME10MILLIONDOLLARSINUNMARKEDBILLSOREVERYONEDIES"

lol no.
You'll need a warrant for that.

In the UK you would have to disclose the key or face prosecution.

Are they allowed to search through laptops of journalists?

I'm not black

But I'm not technically in the UK since I haven't entered the country.

I'm pretty sure that if I were prosecuted, I could complain to some regulatory EU body and explain the situation and that negative publicity would end up getting me released, at least until brexit is effectuated.

Uh, sorry. I don't remember it.

In any UK airport, you will be subject to disclosing or face prosecution.

I'll take my chances with prosecution then just for the heck of it, considering that I have a pretty strong case.

If you have a big company backing you up, you have a better chance than most. Just make sure they will actually defend you.

Those are already spied on so no need.

I'm pretty sure they will, if our IP falls into the wrong hands, we would be out of business over the night.

Yeah, this. What happens in the case of info you are NDA'd. Can I make the officer sign an NDA?

No worries. We'll just put you in jail indefinitely until you remember it.

If you ever do, make sure to post your story on Sup Forums.

What if you forgot the password?

Or use like one of those key files or whatever and don't have the file on hand?

i would give them the password
the most they would find is some shitty coding projects
i keep all my porn on an ftp server hosted on my desktop at home

Well, I actually do travel to the US a lot (five times a year or something)... But I have the "right" skin colour so I never get any hassle by TSA agents. One time I was very tired from a long flight that was delayed and I walked straight by the custom's agent without handing him the approved slip, nothing happened.

Another time, I witnessed a bloke with Indian origins (but with a US passport, I saw him going to the citizens area) doing the same, and he got jumped by airport security and hauled into some back room for questioning.

That's why you dual-boot. One dummy windows install and one main geenu/loonix install.

HANK AM I UNDER AAAARRRREEEESSSSSTTTTTT

Ok m8. Let me write it out on paper, but do know that under law i have no responsibility to help you with typing it, and if you are unable to do it, and don't bring my laptop back to me after i have complied, you will be the one facing court problems.
Here's the password: 陵辱相姦図~強制妊娠精液地獄~

>and don't bring my laptop back to me after i have complied, you will be the one facing court problems.
Actually, that's incorrect. The TSA is allowed to seize your computer for up to a year.

nakedsecurity.sophos.com/2012/01/09/us-customs-can-and-will-seize-laptops-and-cellphones-demand-passwords/

Only if i don't give the password.
But i have complied with the only obligation i have by law. The law doesn't support them if they are incapable or incompetent to type it in, in that case it supports me.
So you are the one who is incorrect user.

>wicked rape, compulsive pregnancy semen hell
Or something like that

The Maiden Rape Assault - Violent Semen Inferno

Google would have been easier than fucking up a translation user.

Sure thing officer I have nothing to hide. But I am concerned about that obese man over there with the ugly black computer, he was muttering to himself about pornography and bombs. I think you should check it out.

>But i have complied with the only obligation i have by law. The law doesn't support them if they are incapable or incompetent to type it in, in that case it supports me.
That's wrong, they can and will seize your computer if they are unable to unlock it and involve the FBI in the matter.

They also copy your hard drive btw

If you don't believe me, I dare you to try it.

TSA doesn't ask for your password, they just make sure your laptop boots.

motherboard.vice.com/read/you-have-no-right-to-electronic-privacy-when-you-cross-the-us-border

So I guess if you travel alot, the best way to protect your freedoms for having totally legit 500yo vampire girl with the body of a child getting bukkake'd doujins is to upload them to mega or some other cloud storage and leave only the most trivial things on your computer with clean history before any flights?

Yes

They can size my computer, if i don't give them a password.
But if they size my computer after i have given them one, and aren't capable of inputting it, then i can start up a court case and get some nice money from their shit.
Firstly because i am not obligated by the law to help them input it, and secondly because they aren't allowed by the law to size a computer after all the points of compliance dictated by it were met.

You see user, i have time to waste, and i have money to waste, and my HDD is filled with nothing but an empty Linux install. It's a shits and giggles case.
I can just type in the password in court for all to see that i have not given a fallacious password.
And that's all it takes for the "authorities" to get fucked.

So sure user, i don't mind trying it, because i know what will happen.

>But if they size my computer after i have given them one, and aren't capable of inputting it, then i can start up a court case and get some nice money from their shit.
No, you wont.

See >Firstly because i am not obligated by the law to help them input it,
Yes, you are if they ask you.

>and secondly because they aren't allowed by the law to size a computer after all the points of compliance dictated by it were met.
But they are.

Again, see Even if they successfully unlock your computer and access and copy all of your content, they are STILL allowed to seize your computer for up to a year and there's nothing you or I can do about it.

>No, you wont.
Yes i will.

>See
Our discussion has nothing to do with privacy, so you have pretty much posted nothing as an argument.

>Yes, you are if they ask you.
Show me the law article obligating me. Empty words don't make a law.

>But they are.
They are physically allowed, but not by law. A judge would blast them. Hence i'm hoping for it.

>Again, see
Re-read your link again user. It has nothing to do with our discussion.

The lack of expertise to input a different language isn't my problem, it's their problem.
A judge and jurry would hang their ass for being incompetent.
So i'm hoping for it.

You know how Ned Stark thought he knew how shit would go down in the power struggle for the Kingdom because he knew the laws well and assumed they were in his favor? That's literally how you are right now.

>Our discussion has nothing to do with privacy,
It's not about privacy, did you even read it? See the document in the bottom of the article.

>They are physically allowed, but not by law
They are, see the document at the end of the article.

>Re-read your link again user. It has nothing to do with our discussion.
You should read it at least once user.

>The lack of expertise to input a different language isn't my problem, it's their problem.

It is your problem. As many new computers require biometric input, the CBP is actually allowed to require you to unlock the computer for them.

>not using secure Microsoft OneDrive to host files
>not downloading your files from secure Microsoft OneDrive upon arrival

kekkers

too bad she died

Sounds like a VN without even googling the name.

>not adding *spck* *spck*

Am I able to refuse and walk away without boarding the plane?

It is land of the free, only criminals and degenerates have something to hide

>here you go
>give them the one that initiates DBAN under a fake loading screen

>They'll hear the drive rapidly spinning
>They'll notice the blue light repeatedly flashing indicating heavy activity.

This doesn't happen in America.

Well it's LOADING duh.

B8

I can let them access my Linux installation that I don't use. :^)

Yes, that's why you store your shit on some server or just mail the drive separately

>not disconnecting the HDD/power LEDS

>they won't know what's going on because they're fucking TSA inspectors, not fucking linus Torvalds

Good. Journalist scum are the worst. They're traitors to america.

Oh, no problem. I'll just sue you for gross human right violations and be a millionaire once I get out.

>show my fake NSA ID and tell them the data on my laptop is classified

Traitor scum

One man's traitor is another's freedom fighter, or however it went.

>not just dropboxing your cheese pizza

i don't remember it i'm sorry

You do what every other company employee does:
Bring over an empty laptop and receive your important shit via VPN once you're in country.

>But sir, there's no hard drive of any kind in this laptop. I also don't have a smartphone but this Nokia 3310 with only few select numbers on it.

How fucked am I?

>he didn't fall for the SSD meme

If you let them open your laptop, you're fine.

it's inside my anus

come and get it

don't forget to tip your TSA officer today!

Probably going to miss your flight.

Haha, lincuck commie got rekt hard.

TSA for domestic travel: No
Customs for international travel: Yes

Would you encounter any of this inconvenience if you had your laptop/phone in luggage rather than carry-on shit, or is this fully pre-boarding?

No, no this really doesn't happen in the UK lol

>UKfag

What's with the gloves? Are you expecting I store my password in my ass?

Here you go officer, your going to need this 5 and a quarter inch floppy disk to boot it...

Ive never been asked to power on my laptops. Though I do switch out the hd for a substitute. No questions or anything.

>2016
>"downloading an MP3 file"
I seriously hope you guys don't do this unironically

Realistically, how long does a search like this take?
This is so stupid and useless unless they have a particular team that goes balls deep into the device and not just random guy who makes a narrow file search with a few wildcards.

It happens in Germany too
