Because programmers are little pussy boys

employers suck programmers dicks so that they will perform well. its the opposite in other industries

Most office jobs don't have unions.

Plus too many of them are nu-male cucks who lack the conviction to speak out against wage depressing H1B pooinloos.

>I'm not a pussy, it's all those straw SJWs!!!!!!!!

I'm really tired of this shit. This is every polfag these days. Right wing kids these days are such whiny faggots, thinking up conspiracies and that the system is rigged when really what they need to do is admit they're cucks. The people who wield the term themselves are so cuckolded and impotently raging against it in the most faggoty ways. Always deflecting, always blaming, always finding some new bogeyman.

I miss when I was a kid- it was just fucking commies and we were stronger than this generation of beta cocksuckers

Almost every labor union is at least 60 years old, many are over 100. Programming is a very new industry that was created in a time of postwar prosperity and liberal capitalism where there wasn't a need a need to form any unions. Red scare didn't help either.

Also, like others said, programmers just aren't as tough as say an American steelworker. Many unions have a history of literally getting into small wars with their employers (Who would hire mercenaries to attack or shoot up workers on strike0

He didn't say anything about SJWs or conspiracies. Are you just waiting for opportunities to vent your unrelated butthurt?

Every programmer thinks he's above average and his colleagues are bringing him down.

Because non-immigrant workers in the software/IT industries are generally well-compensated enough that unionization is not necessary

The AFL was created because the vast majority of industrial workers in America were getting paid below min wage in today's money, with no breaks, mandatory 70-80 hour work weeks, and no regulations to ensure worker safety. No fucking shit those guys were driven to protest and violence to get better conditions.

Unions have been busted bruv. There's still small places where they reign supreme, but for the most part business gave the middlefinger and started shipping grunt work overseas.

Because programmers dont have people telling them to do potentially life threatening things at the risk of getting fired for not doing them. Or being forced to work insanely long hours in work camps doing extremely dangerous things where if you fuck up you die.

>work as software engineer for a railroad company
>part of the railroad union
>pay is $20k higher than comparable jobs in this area
>better benefits
>stock bonuses every quarter
>no Social Security taxes to pay

Unions are cancer.

I disagree, I'm a part of the steel workers union for my job (albeit I'm not an ironworker, its kind of like a parent union of sorts that envelops my union), and almost every trade I work alongside is unionized. carpentry, plumbing, welding (also steelworker's obv), electricians, masons, etc. Chances are most aspects of most commercial buildings you see were put there by union workers

Manual labor that requires you to be /onsite/ is about the only thing that can be unionize nowadays. Everything else has been shipped out or outsourced.

t. fedora

What are software programmers going to complain about? That they're not sitting in their comfortable chairs long enough?

Normally programmers are on salary (non-hourly), which means if/when they work overtime they aren't eligible for OT pay.

Complains can be -- low pay, long hours, carpal tunnel syndrome, deteriorating vision, atrophying muscles, work life balance.

This

Because I make enough money and don't want to give 10% of my salary to shitty union dues.

>Manual labor that requires you to be /onsite/ is about the only thing that can be unionize nowadays

FBI Agents are in a union
School Teachers
News Reporters
the list goes on

there are ten million plus people in labor unions in the USA

All our movies are made by union and teamsters

fair enough, its hard to compete with people who are willing to work for basically nothing, or being forced to work for nothing. But unions started with manual labour jobs in the first place, shit like coal miners or factory workers and such.

If I wasn't getting overtime over 40 hours, or double time on weekends, or shit like that, I wouldn't want to be paying into a union either. I pay like $300-$400/month to my union, if I was just making salary working in an office during the week, there's no way in fuck I'd be willing to do that

>I pay like $300-$400/month to my union,

Pretty much made my point for me.

>Pretty much made my point for me.

you are not a smart person, i bet you think that was a witty point

Ya but when I can clear $1500-$2000 in a week its definitely worth it. If I'm only working 5 days, 40 hours a week I only end up paying around $150-$200ish

>I pay like $300-$400/month to my union
Holy fuck what a fucking scam, fuck unions.

Too much ego in some of us programmers to see our profession as labor, instead of the "work of art" everyone else thinks it to be.

Don't get me wrong, some people out there who are developing top notch software really are creating works of art. But people like me who write repetitive stuff like APIs in backend using some framework etc really aren't doing anything groundbreaking, and are constantly treated like like the day wage labor that we really are.

>Everything else has been shipped out or outsourced.
There are 200,000,000 people in the US that are in the active working force. Somehow I don't think all those people are manual laborers. In fact the vast majority aren't. Only about 5-6% (of the total population) are manual laborers, in fact.

The reason why many other industries don't unionize is that the costs outweigh the benefits. Unions aren't free. Many people think they simply exist for your benefit. The cost is actually pretty huge, and will result in overall lower wages for many job types.

There's actually been quite a few votes by workers in many companies against joining a union, because they simply don't want to pay union fees. Why would they if they are already treated well?

As for unionized manual laborers, they're not as common as you'd think. I hire out contractors all the time (my architecture/engineering firm does design/build all the time; it's kind of our business model and all); it really depends on the region, and last year, the amount of projects we did that required union labor was by far in the minority.

>you are not a smart person

idk, they're the reason I get overtime after 8 hours or 40 hours in a week, the reason I get double time on saturdays/sundays, the reason that I get all my meals paid for when I work out of town out of hotels or camps, the reason I can refuse unsafe work, the reason I get access to adequate safety measures such as harnesses or whatever, the reason I'm guaranteed a job even if my company goes bankrupt or I just decide I dont like where Im working (unions will get you a job with other companies under the same union), etc, etc. Union workers also make a lot more money than non union workers under the same trade. Union dues are also tax deductible. It ends up paying off in the end.

Also, that's only on good months, as I said earlier sometimes its only like $150-$200

>Holy fuck what a fucking scam, fuck unions.
Fun fact: most unions originated from organized crime mobs. That's why it seems like a scam: because it started out as one and many of them are still run by the same families that were in organized crime. They just "legitimized," and I use that term very loosely because a lot of them are extremely shady.

However it is a lot better today:

Not completely clean though.

nu-male is in the neighborhood. As for blaming Indians and legislation that lets them in, instead of killing them in the street and fighting the police over this kind of legislation, that's cuckoldry.

I'm so irritated about these new right wing children. We used to form unions and beat faggots and kill people when they were lefties. What happened to that America? That's the one I grew up in and I miss it. When some tinfoil hat complained about the jews instead of going to the rallies, we'd all be running a train on his whore girlfriend. This entire new generation is impotent.

Unions are annoying and not free as in freedom.

>I'm so irritated about these new right wing children. We used to form unions and beat faggots and kill people when they were lefties.
woah alright gramps, back in ye old days of 2005 right?

This meme... has GOT to end.

You never did any of those things.

Because unions are obsolete. Unions only exist for muscle power jobs (mining, generic factories) meanwhile office jobs is just writing numbers in Excel because power muscle was replaced with robot-based workforce.

Goods have to be imported. Software does not.

>$400 a month

Nigga what the fuck? That's how much I pay a year for my union.

The average Tech geek is anti-social and dont like unions because need human relationships of talking about you job, speeches and other activities that they dont like.

There's almost nothing i hate more than public sector unions, the government is already inept about how to use my money, all the union does is just waste more of my money.

...

>We used to form unions and beat faggots and kill people when they were lefties.
Things that never happened

Let's put that edge in a safety razor and get a close, clean shave on our beards instead. Okay?

I think teacher's unions are the worst to be honest. They advocate for too much shit that lets shitty teachers get away with doing a poor job.

You're goddamn right we are.

>labor unions
Why the fuck would I need those?

>Why is there such a big lack of labor unions in the USA?
Fixed.

So you don't get fucked over with unpaid overtime and other fuckery.

Programmers are well educated and skilled individuals (excluding pajeet). So they can usually get another job either doing to the same thing or something that requires problem solving skills.

what kind of shithole country do you live in where that's legal?

>le conspiracy!
>le rigged system!

kek autist spotted

That only happens in America though, because of >le evil socialism meme.

user, how do you think those laws came to pass?

that fact that your country doesn't have them makes it a shithole

Because the tech industry is pretty much illegal to begin with.

I'm convinced over half the contracts anyone signs have plenty of illegal shit in them yet nobody bats an eye because even 1st years are getting $60k a year.

there is:
the union foreman is the outsourcer

i have nothing to complain about

feels good to be a valuable employee, lads :~)

because basic programmers are a dime a dozen and will do anything for a job

while good ones are in high demand and can afford to chose what they want to do

I'd just go work somewhere if that were the case, this isn't hard.

Haha haha, no. SPJ is a association, but not a union.
